David Warmuz 🔜 SiGMA-NamesCon shared thisauDA Hits Back - Tries To Justify and Down Play The Accepted Policy Changes After The Australian news published an article on the proposed policy changes: https://lnkd.in/gKyQ-G6b Petition started/supported by the Registrars has over 1,000 signatures requesting auDA to not make this change here: https://lnkd.in/gvF9RW5D In response auDA released their own statement: https://lnkd.in/gBxqfvCa "we expect most registrants will already satisfy the proposed allocation" Trying to downplay the impact here, when the data is clear: 80% of existing registrants will be affected only 20% will not need to do anything. You can check where your domains falls here: https://lnkd.in/gChPuK25 2.7 million domains will need to do ONE of these things to meet the new policy: 1. If they have an existing Business Name that passes the other rules, will just need to contact their Registrar and perform a Change of Registrant OR 2. If they do NOT have an existing Business Name that matches one of the other eligibility requirements, they will need to go to ASIC and register a new Business Name and THEN contact their Registrar and perform a Change of Registrant. Examples of each case: 1. girl.com.au - Registered 25 Years Ago Current Eligibility is under: Trillion.com Pty Ltd parent company which happens to have a Business Name "GIRL.COM.AU" the domain owner will need to reach out to their Registrar and pay for a Correction/Change of Registrant to maintain eligibility. 2. gold.com.au - Registered 29 Years Ago Will need to go to ASIC to pay $47 per year for a new Business Name with the word "GOLD" in it to be eligible and then contact their Registrar and pay to do a Change of Registrant. auDA claims that a Correction is free, so that there will not be a cost to clients, technically that is true but what they don't tell you is that in reality, Registrars will not do free corrections and for good reason and instead will use the paid for Change of Registrant pathway to make these changes. Corrections are for mistakes and done rarely by Registrars as they require a Tech that has high level access and database access to perform changes in the database. Instead Registrars will use the common fee based Change of Registrant pathway to make these changes to the domains. A Change of Registrant costs the Registrar $9.50 The break up of this is around $6.00 goes to auDA $3.50 goes to the Registry - Identity Digital Registrars then charge a margin anywhere from $1.00 to $60.00 auDA stands to make a nice $16.2 million windfall from this policy change 2.7 Million domains x $6. A nice return for a policy change. We urge auDA to keep section (f) of the policy. No confusing grandfather options either.

David Warmuz 🔜 SiGMA-NamesCon shared thisThe auDA Board Just Voted to Destroy the .com.au Name Space! Over 2 million .com.au are no longer eligible to be renewed! Let that sink in! There are only 3.29 million .com.au domains currently registered and over 2 million of them will require a new Business Name Registration or a new Trademark registration and then Change of Registrant done. We estimate that this is going to cost Small Business owners $500 million to fix and a good $200 million every year to maintain. This is a great win for the Australian Government through ASIC and IP Australia services, but all at the cost of Small Businesses. What were they thinking? Making a single change to existing Eligibility rules that will affect 1/3 domains currently registered. Read more https://lnkd.in/g4C3Gnrf #auda, #domains, #asic, #ipaustralia, #drop, #domainnames

David Warmuz 🔜 SiGMA-NamesCon shared thisHelp Shape the Future of .AU Domains For every Australian business owner and domain investor, the Australian Domain Administration (auDA) is reviewing the .au Licensing Rules, and the proposed changes could have a real impact on business owners that own more than one domain, domain investors, portfolio owners, and SEO companies that register domains. Current .au eligibility policies are often misunderstood, creating unnecessary public confusion around legitimate domain investing. Some think that if a domain name is acquired by an investor and is not currently in use, it constitutes an unfair holding and should be made exclusively available to an operational business in that industry. Some of the suggestions provided by the panel will severely affect anyone who owns multiple domain names. Some of the points raised were covered by Domainer https://lnkd.in/gcJnYjh5 Australia already has the world's most restrictive domain namespace, and if some of the panel's suggestions are adopted, it would become even more restrictive severely reducing the value of .com.au domains and encourge businesses to use other extensions like .com .ai .io .co etc.. Please have your say before it is too late for Australian domain investors! 👉 Submit your feedback here: https://lnkd.in/g53Svv9u Submission and consultation close on 10 July 2026, 11:59 PM AEST.

David Warmuz 🔜 SiGMA-NamesCon shared thisThank you Bruce! What an absolute legend in the SEO space. Bruce Clay recently passed away leaving behind many thankful people that had their own SEO skills shaped in the early days by Bruce. He was always happy to talk SEO and impart as much of his knowledge as he could to anyone that was willing to listen and learn. We first met at the Double Tree for SES Conference in 1999, I need to go through "thefacebook" to confirm but that sounds about right. One of the best event ever. In a location where no one could leave, so we all just stayed and drank the hotel bar out, and that was the catalyst to how a lifelone friendship started. Here is bruceclay.com wayback from Jan 1998 https://lnkd.in/gmiGU9Uy In contrast our Jan 1998 wayback of our site at the same time: https://lnkd.in/gXYdrUrW (we later rebranded to Trellian.com at the end of 1998 and then much later to Trillion.com) At the time our top product was SubmitWolf along with a suite of search products... while we were only adding websites to search engines, Bruce was already providing help and advice on how to improve your website, before it was even called SEO (Search Engine Optimization). A true pioneer that I am glad to have met and call a friend. We shared many drinks and talks over the years and I wish there were more of both! Rest In Peace Bruce. You will be missed. David Warmuz 🔜 SiGMA-NamesCon liked thisDavid Warmuz 🔜 SiGMA-NamesCon liked thisFor decades, .com.au has been Australia’s established commercial domain extension. But since .au registrations launched in 2022, businesses and domain investors have had another option. One has built long-standing consumer trust; the other is a shorter, cleaner alternative. So, which one is better? The answer depends on your audience, branding, and keeping track of proposed eligibility changes. Read more in our latest blog. And it’s got me thinking… How often do you hear about a “Men in Business” event? I don’t (but maybe I don’t because I am female 😅) Yet we’ve got women’s networking events. Women’s lunches. Women’s panels. Women’s founder groups. Women supporting women events. Maybe we’re getting some of this wrong? Because if the goal is inclusion, why do we keep creating more separate rooms? I don’t want to only network with women. i want to be where business is happening. i want to meet the men AND the women. I want to be invited to the golf day. The corporate box. The random lunch where someone says, “You two should talk.” That’s where relationships are built. And maybe the more we separate ourselves into “women in business” over here and everyone else over there… the more we reinforce the exact divide we keep complaining about. I’m absolutely here for supporting women. But I’m starting to wonder if real inclusion looks a lot less like creating another women-only event… and a lot more like simply being included. Are we actually closing the gap… or accidentally keeping it alive?

David Warmuz 🔜 SiGMA-NamesCon liked thisDavid Warmuz 🔜 SiGMA-NamesCon liked thisAnyone who works in digital or owns a .com.au or .net.au domain: SIGN THIS PETITION. https://c.org/bB7Dzs8kgF An excerpt (CoPilot summary) as to why: What auDA's proposed .au rule changes could mean for small businesses · auDA has accepted recommendations that change eligibility rules for .com.au and .net.au domains. · The proposed change would require a registered Business Name or Trade Mark that exactly matches the domain name. · Previously, an active ABN or ACN could be sufficient for eligibility. · Critics claim this could affect around 2.7 million domains (about 80% of all .com.au and .net.au registrations). Many existing domain holders may need to: · Register a new Business Name or Trade Mark. · Update domain ownership records with their registrar. · The proposal is expected to increase costs for businesses registering or renewing domains. · Concerns have been raised that some businesses could unintentionally become ineligible to renew their domains if they do not meet the new requirements. · Registrars could face significant administrative workloads processing large numbers of ownership and eligibility updates. Industry opponents argue the change could create confusion, increase compliance costs, and risk disruption for Australian businesses that rely on their domains. ➡️ Courtesy of Gumbo Web Advice ⬅️

Last year a client went from Shopify native checkout to Gokwik popup checkout, and their shopify analytics became useless. Conversions went up, but the shopify attributed it all to direct sales. Shopify wasn't getting the attribution data anymore. The client lost: • Checkout funnel • Cohort metrics like AOV, LTV, repeat rate • Sales reports with first-last click attribution 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗹. Luckily, we already had the checkout flow set up using GA4 events in bigquery. We just needed to update the queries to account for the new events. Within a week, we setup cohort reports, checkout flow and other essential analysis by channel on a looker studio report. Yes, GA4 reports 15% lower sales than shopify. But you still get all the data - and much more: • steps with friction • steps that take too long • discount coupons shenangians This gives more visibility than they ever had with native checkout - more visibility = more experiments with better outcomes. Don't stop looking at data just because it's not available in shopify analytics.

If your business only gets clients when ads are running, you do not own your lead flow. A properly structured website can generate consistent inquiries without paid traffic. I recently shared a guide covering: • How to attract high intent visitors • Why most websites fail to convert • The role of SEO and speed • Simple conversion improvements Long term growth is built on digital assets, not just ad spend. Here’s the guide: https://lnkd.in/g2pEjggY

💻 Your Website Metadata Still Matters (and It’s Not Just SEO Fluff) 💻 Most small biz sites have titles like “Home — Smith Plumbing”. That’s like putting “Human — John” on Tinder. Fix it: ✅ Title: “Emergency Plumber in Redcliffe | Smith Plumbing QLD” ✅ Description: “24/7 licensed plumbers fixing leaks, bursts & hot water in Brisbane Northside since 2012.” That metadata gets read by AI summarizers (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Bing Copilot). If it’s blank or boring, you vanish. Gary Growth builds metadata that gets noticed — by bots and people. #marketing #SMB #australia #seo

AI has no idea who is the best SEO in Australia -- even if I was included in one of the citations. The point is AI is entity SEO reborn. It learns from first searching the internet. It is entity SEO on steroids. That is why it matters who is talking about you, searching for you and referencing you online. It all started with Query Fan Outs.

Use Claude Cowork Chrome Extension to Optimise Your Google Business Listing If you want better local SEO results, your Google Business Profile needs to be properly optimised. One of the easiest ways I’ve found to do this is using Claude Cowork with the Claude Chrome extension. Open your Google Business Profile, make sure it’s ready to edit, then ask Claude to first read your website and understand exactly what your business does. From there, you can get it to help optimise: • Your main business categories • Your services under each category • Service descriptions • Products • Images • Other important profile information The services section is especially useful because a lot of businesses either leave it incomplete or don’t optimise it properly. Give Claude clear instructions, keep the text concise, make sure everything matches your actual website, and review the changes before publishing. It can save a huge amount of time and help you build a much stronger Google Business Profile. #GoogleBusinessProfile #LocalSEO #Claude #ClaudeCowork #chrome
