For Halloween last year, I shared a post about what kept me up at night as a Chief Engineer. I'd like to expand on that by sharing more about what didn't - mechanical design. Let me explain. As someone who is deeply involved in the industry, and was a longtime designer of mechanical structures and systems, I often find myself discussing the importance of looking beyond mechanical CAD when it comes to digital twins and digital transformation. Here’s the thing – while CAD crucial to the foundation of the digital twin, it's just one piece of the puzzle for today’s fast paced innovation. Because it is visually appealing, mechanical CAD is often what people think of when they hear about digital twins. In times past, I was guilty of that myself. But the true value of digital transformation can only be realized by fully integrating mechanical design with electrical, electronics, and semiconductor design, in a multi-domain environment that seamlessly connects to downstream manufacturing and delivery processes. The integration of these domains along with requirements, simulation, analysis, and Bill of Materials on a robust PLM foundation creates a comprehensive digital twin that connects every aspect of product development and production. This holistic approach ensures that every component, from electrical circuits to semiconductor chips, is accurately represented and optimized within the digital twin. The ability to seamlessly connect mechanical, electrical, and electronics design is what sets industry leaders apart, enabling them to deliver innovative solutions that drive digital transformation. Further, by integrating IoT-enabled hardware, software, and digital services, companies can create a cohesive digital ecosystem. This integration ensures that every component is accurately represented and optimized within the comprehensive digital twin, providing real-time insights and enabling better, and faster, decision-making. In our industry, it's easy to get caught up in the visualizations, but the disruptors of tomorrow are looking beyond these and holistically adopting digital transformation today. A broader understanding of digitalization, and the ability to utilize the full potential of digital technologies, can provide a provable and measurable competitive advantage in the increasingly tech savvy market landscape. Multichannel is key; don’t just post content, amplify it everywhere it can work. The biggest mistake I see in influencer marketing isn’t bad content. It’s great content that gets posted once… and then disappears. Too many campaigns end at “publish.” Engagement spikes, the post fades, and the value stops there. Top-performing brands take a different approach: they turn a single piece of creator content into a conversion engine across multiple channels. Here’s how I see it done: ▶️ Paid amplification: Run top-performing influencer content as ads on Meta, TikTok, or YouTube to reach new audiences. ▶️ Email and CRM: Include influencer content in journeys to build trust and drive conversions. ▶️ Website and landing pages: Add posts and videos to product pages or reviews for social proof. ▶️ Retail and OOH: Repurpose content for in-store screens, activations, or digital displays. I see brands dividing social media marketing teams into "organic social" and "paid social." It's a huge miss, and dollars are being wasted. I get why brands are doing it. Often, the paid team is buying ads beyond social. And their goal is to drive measurable ROI. But that leaves out "Organish," which is our tongue-in-cheek name for organic content that is then amplified a bit with paid dollars. It's Organic -ish... Organish. I'm not sure why I trademarked it, but 🤷♂️. Several years ago. Here's why Organish makes sense for brands: 1) Think of the cost of making an organic piece of content (even if it's just internal time) and calculate the CPM across actual views. Now syndicate that content if it does well, with just $25, or $100. Maybe even $1,000. Now, recalculate the CPM with that small media support. Vastly more efficient. 2) Your organic reach is probably not huge, but it's big enough to serve as a real-time focus group. The data you're getting back will tell you which posts to amplify with paid dollars. 3) It's fine that some paid social drives hard to conversion. But other paid "organish" content can support conversion, too. For example, take a cruise line. If a prospective client sees "Free upgrade with purchase," paid content AND sees organish cruise experience content, that's great. It helps. 4) At times, we see Organish amplification leading to more efficient CTAs than sales-drive content. Why? Because Organish respects the platform. Social is the only ad model where you get more views per dollar if your content is good. It's not the same as TV, OOH, etc. Good content costs less to syndicate. If you've split your teams this way, it's time to revisit. Give some budget to the organic team. Your overall results will improve dramatically.
