The Thexyz story
Thexyz was born in 2007 as a domain registration of thexyz.org, and set out to build an email service that has your back. Founded in Toronto, Ontario in October of that year, it has grown from a small project into a trusted provider of privacy-focused email and hosting — while staying independent and employee-owned, so our users, not advertisers, are the priority.
As a Canadian company we operate under some of the world's strongest privacy laws, and we advocate for digital privacy rights — honouring GDPR and Canadian privacy law no matter where you are. Our services run in world-class, fully redundant data centers, and the people answering your support tickets are the same people running the platform.

Your data is your data. Period. We never scan, transfer, share or monetize your mail — there is no advertising business here to feed.

No venture capital and no advertisers. Thexyz is employee-owned, so the only people we answer to are the people who pay for the service.

The birth
Thexyz begins as a domain registration of thexyz.org and launches an email service from Toronto, Ontario in October 2007 — built by people who wanted an inbox that has your back.
thexyz.com & premium email
The thexyz.com domain is acquired, and a premium ad-free email application is added to protect users' mail as the platform grows.
New primary data center
Main US servers move to Steadfast in Chicago, Illinois — a larger, fully redundant facility to support the growing user base.
MobileSync arrives
ActiveSync is enabled as MobileSync, syncing email, contacts and calendars between the server and any smartphone. Software company ScriptDorks is acquired the same year.
Email archiving
A partnership with Sonian brings email archiving with unlimited storage to custom-domain email hosting plans.
Underground in Finland
A Finnish data center option comes online — servers housed in an underground tunnel network 200 km north of Helsinki.
Two-factor authentication
Support for software and hardware two-factor authentication lands across Webmail and the admin portals, and users from EpicTech join the platform.
YMOZ joins the family
Thexyz acquires and relaunches YMOZ, extending the portfolio beyond the core email service.
Ten years, Cloud Drive
Cloud Drive is added to Webmail, and in October Thexyz becomes one of the hosting companies that turned ten.
Great User Experience award
FinancesOnline distinguishes Thexyz Webmail with its Great User Experience and Rising Star awards.
Fighting abuse in the open
A public realtime blocklist launches alongside new phishing-reporting tools, and outbound sending policy is tightened to fight spam at the source.
MFA & B2B recognition
Webmail two-factor grows into full multi-factor authentication, and Clutch names Thexyz a top Canadian B2B provider.
Encryption partnership
A second consecutive Clutch B2B award, a partnership with Identillect Technologies bringing PGP encryption for HIPAA-focused clients, and recognition from Digital.com as a top email hosting provider.
Fastest growing
SoftwareSuggest names Thexyz among its Fastest Growing Software Products, as more people go looking for an inbox that is not funded by advertising.
Top Rated, and a privacy nomination
