ChatGPT mentions do not equal traffic.
There is no "#1 position in ChatGPT." That single fact changes how we think about AI visibility at Dynadot.
Getting found in AI search happens in four separate stages, and a site can pass one while failing the next:
→ Retrieved: AI systems can reach your content
→ Mentioned: your brand appears in an answer
→ Cited: the answer links to your page
→ Clicked: someone actually visits
A chatbot can name your brand and then cite a competitor's review page instead of your site. Treat AI visibility as a funnel and the fixes become obvious.
Three things worth knowing before you buy a GEO tool:
- Google says AI Overviews and AI Mode rely on core Search ranking and quality systems. Traditional SEO still carries the weight.
- OpenAI documents OAI-SearchBot separately from GPTBot. Allowing one does not allow the other, and CDN or firewall rules can block legitimate crawlers even when robots.txt looks clean.
- One 2026 observational dataset found .COM, .ORG, .IO and .AI URLs averaged the same 1.7 citations per cited URL. No extension buys AI trust.
The priority order we recommend is deliberately unglamorous:
Eligibility → useful content → entity clarity → external authority → measurement.
Our new guide covers OAI-SearchBot configuration, a 10-20 prompt measurement framework, ChatGPT referral tracking with utm_source=chatgpt.com, and a 30-minute / 30-day checklist you can run today.
