Derek Morrison posted thisIt's definitely bittersweet to be leaving Olive today. I'm excited to be taking some time off for my mental health and to spend time with my family, but I'll miss working with the great folks on my team and I wish the best for them and the product in the future! #mentalhealth #team

In my presentation, I shared how at A Place for Mom our team has built a culture of experimentation and data-backed decision-making—a mindset that has driven ROI over the past three years and provided a wealth of value to families who are looking to us to help in their loved one's senior living journey. Following the presentation, I joined Lane Hart, VP of Customer Success at Contentsquare, for a fireside chat where we discussed the intersection of experimentation, data, creating exceptional customer experiences and an engaging Q/A with the audience. A huge thank-you to the Optimizely and Contentsquare teams, specifically Erin McDonald for organizing the track. Outside of my track it was great to be in-person discussing the ever-changing digital landscape with friends new and old: Suresh Devanan Dan Murphy Corey Caplette Charlie Jones Michael Thompson, Jill Grozalsky Roberson, Mara Kahrmann, Laura Thiele, #Opticon2024 #Optimizely #ContentSquare #CultureOfExperimentation #Innovation

It is an honor just to be among the companies in the list, let alone being named a winner. It is only by God's grace! To Him be the glory!

Working where I work, people are sometimes surprised when I say that agent cli/ide's (as you know them) won't matter in a year. Until I point out that this time last year auto-complete was a "must have" and then claude cli and cursor agents came along. I think by this time next year cli's and extensions join auto-complete in the bucket of things lagging adopters use, while the industry will have shifted to focusing on software factory patterns.

When interviewing for platform positions my favorite question to ask engineering managers to gauge the experience of the team is, "How do you prove to leadership that you make money?" It's a devilish question, but imo the most one that Ops or Ops-adjacent teams need to have a quantifiable answer for because at the end of the day if all we're doing is keeping the lights on, even if we're saving money, that's not enough to keep up with the value of other engineering teams. There are four levels to the answers I've seen: 1: Oh shit I've never thought about this I just assumed we'd always use K8s 2: We're not bean-counting right now 3: Performance Engineering 4: We at least try and build commercial stuff if we're able 3 is the bare minimum, 4 is the north star.
