Charles Griffith shared thisOne of the things I loved about early 𝗔𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗼𝗻 was the mindset: don't be afraid to 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗶𝘀𝗱𝗼𝗺. You were encouraged to attack problems from a fresh perspective, even if it meant breaking with established thinking. That approach helped 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 ranging from retail and transportation to cloud infrastructure. What I learned while 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 is that 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲 everywhere—especially when you don't have the power of a company like Amazon behind you. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 industries where tradition often outweighs innovation. Contractors, inspectors, and vendors tend to follow established processes, move at their own pace, and rarely operate with the level of customer focus many of us have come to expect. Eight containers, countless hours of work, and pints of blood, sweat, and too many tears resulted in something truly unique. At Amazon, major failures were followed by a 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿 (COE)—a candid look at what went wrong, why it happened, and how to prevent it from happening again. Although my project is complete, the journey was a seemingly endless series of mistakes, setbacks, and hard-earned lessons. So, in the spirit of a proper 𝗖𝗢𝗘, I've turned the entire experience into a YouTube series—not a "how-to," but a "what not to do." Charles Griffith shared thisIt’s rare for anyone’s 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 work to be remembered — let alone scrutinized. Somehow, I was fortunate enough to experience both. Most people have no idea that the first part of my career was spent working in 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀. And when they do find out, the questions usually come wrapped in the assumption that it was some glamorous, Hollywood-style experience. In this blog post with 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝘁 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗸𝗲 for 𝗖𝗥𝗣𝗚𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁, I tried to tell the story honestly — without the filters, revisionism, or nostalgic mythology that so often reshape the past. Hopefully others enjoy the chance to step back in time with me. believe it or not I can diagnose you without an in-person visit... this sounds like "Rest guilt" which is common to ex-Amazonians (very similar to the hostage response known as Stockholm syndrome) 🤣

First, I visited Normal Computing booth at DAC, where I learnt Antonio Martinez just had a his first child 🎊 . His own team (not naming names 😉) confirmed that Antonio Martinez is the “nicest founder” in the company. Then I learnt today that Guillaume Verdon and Trevor McCourt, founders of Extropic , won a $75M contract with the CHIPS for America What do these three people have in common ? 1) They were interns from UWaterloo at Google Research 2) They were key contributors to Tensorflow Quantum which Masoud Mohseni and I had championed 3) They are genuinely good character entrepreneurs and technologists that I enjoyed working with

Charles Griffith liked thisCharles Griffith liked thisWhen I stepped away from my Amazon job last year, I didn't make any announcements about "What's next." Mostly because I wanted to decompress first and figure that out later. To be honest, this was the kind of freedom I had been working toward for years. When I finally decided I was ready to take the leap, I was both excited and nervous to walk away without a plan for what came next. People kept asking me: What next? Are you running away from something or walking toward something? And my answer was simple: Neither. I was just trying to get my time back in my own control, and decide later how I wanted to use it. (Yes, financial freedom and I'm grateful for it.) Having complete control over my time was something I had never experienced before. Uncharted waters, for sure. Given the uncertain times we're all navigating, I was also nervous about not having a clear Plan B. What if I wanted to or needed to get back into a job? Would I even be able to? That thought was always on the back of my mind. The last two months were the first time I truly experienced what that freedom of time actually meant. And it taught me a lesson I didn't know I needed to learn: Ironically, when I finally had the freedom, I was uncomfortable. I didn't know what to do with it. My mind was falling back to old patterns. Actually enjoying freedom takes a completely different mindset than earning it does.
