Meet Ángela Banca. She is one of 28 newly trained solar and water system technicians who recently graduated from a regional training program in Puno, Peru. Representing 14 communities across the region, graduates gained the technical, administrative, and leadership skills needed to operate and maintain community-managed water systems.

Today we`re launching the first chapter of our Project Journey Series, following the community of Cucho Yanaoco in Puno, Peru, as residents, local leaders, and partners work together to strengthen their community-managed water system.

Visiting Ben Linder’s original workshop in El Cuá was an emotional experience. This is where Green Empowerment and our local partner #ATDER-BL were first founded. 💚

Here, Ben worked alongside communities to build micro-hydro energy systems that transformed lives. The first system, completed in 1985, served 70 homes and one streetlight. Over the years, the system has expanded to reach more communities and keep pace with local population growth. Today, it serves 10,000 families!

Ingrid Corina Zelaya Martinez, Vocal of the Water Committee in Paraisito, shares how women once spent entire days collecting water. They would leave their buckets in line, then come back later when their turn to collect water was getting close. This was daily life before the community built its own water system.
