Patrick Lencioni shared thisAre you naturally disruptive or responsive at work? Three of the Six Working Geniuses are considered disruptive: Invention, Galvanizing, and Tenacity. People with these Geniuses disrupt their environment by creating new things, getting people excited, or pushing tasks across the finish line. The other three are responsive: Wonder, Discernment, and Enablement. People with these Geniuses respond to the world around them by identifying problems, refining existing ideas, or helping others. Both are absolutely necessary throughout the process of work, and it begs the question: where do you fit into that process? Discover your Working Genius to find out whether you are disruptive or responsive (or both): https://lnkd.in/gCr75XDg

Patrick Lencioni shared thisAI is twice as bad as its biggest fans think. And half as bad as its harshest critics think. I honestly got tired of the AI headlines a long time ago, so here's a simple statement for people who feel overwhelmed and want a hopeful, practical way to think about it. It comes down to four simple declarations. The first: people are made in the image and likeness of God. AI is not. Second, AI is only good to the extent it adds to the fullness of human life. Third, work is about more than a paycheck. It gives people purpose and dignity, and anything that destroys that for the sake of excess can't be called good. Fourth, AI should never do what people can do just as well or better. What do you think?

Patrick Lencioni shared thisWhere exactly does artificial Intelligence fit within the lexicon of business and organizational health? If you're anything like me, you might find it overwhelming to even consider the implications of this question... but I believe putting it into the right context will allow us to at least begin to understand where it belongs. Ultimately, the goal should be to utilize AI where it is most impactful, while avoiding misuse in areas where it shouldn't be relied on. If you want to know where AI fits (and doesn't fit) in business, check out my latest article, Putting AI in Its Proper Place: https://lnkd.in/es3N_PfK

Patrick Lencioni shared thisThanks for having me on, Jim. As leaders, most of us spend too much time trying to be good at everything. Working Genius is about figuring out which kinds of work give you energy, and building a team that complements you. Great conversation.Patrick Lencioni shared thisWhat if the work draining your energy is not work you are supposed to be doing? Every project requires six distinct types of work: Wonder, Invention, Discernment, Galvanizing, Enablement, and Tenacity. Most people naturally thrive in only two. In this episode of The CEO Project Podcast, Patrick Lencioni, best selling author and CEO of The Table Group, and I discuss the Working Genius model and how CEOs can use it to build stronger, more balanced teams. They discuss: • Why some work energizes you while other tasks lead to burnout • How to identify missing strengths across your leadership team • Why leaders should stop trying to excel at everything • How Working Genius can improve roles, hiring, and meetings • Why vulnerability is essential to effective leadership Listen to the full episode: https://lnkd.in/eJtSDA7t #WorkingGenius #Leadership #Teamwork #CEOLeadership #TheTableGroup

Patrick Lencioni shared thisEach of your two Geniuses tells you what you love to do. Your pairing illustrates how you'll go about doing it. Take two people who both have the Genius of Invention. Both light up when they get to create something new. But add Wonder and you get a Creative Dreamer who enjoys exploring many different possibilities before jumping into execution. Add Tenacity and you might get a Methodical Architect who is energized by creating a plan to see the idea through. The love of inventing is the same. The second genius steers it in a completely different direction. There are only 15 pairings. Do you know which one is yours? Discover the pairing that describes how you work best. Patrick Lencioni shared thisTwenty-five years ago today I finished writing my book The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, mere hours after the tragedy that we now call 9/11. I thought it might be a good idea to republish the short commentary I included at the end of that book that day, which was a tribute to the teamwork that brought ordinary people to do extraordinary things to save the lives of strangers, even at the expense of their own lives. May God bless those brave men and women, and may He bless their families.

Patrick Lencioni shared thisThe greatest competitive advantage you have at work isn't on your resume. It's not your network, your title, or even how many hours you're willing to put in. It's knowing yourself. It's knowing the kind of work that gives you energy, and putting yourself in a position to do it. When your role fits your Working Genius, you excel and make a far bigger impact. When it doesn't, you end up frustrated and confused about why you're not succeeding. Whether you're starting your career, wanting to excel in your current role, or changing jobs, start there. Get to know your competitive advantage at work. Patrick Lencioni shared thisThis is one of the topics from my books that leaders appreciate the most. I call it Team #1. If you sit on a leadership team, you belong to two teams. The one you're a member of, and the one you lead. Most people prioritize the team they lead. It's natural. You hired those people. You spend more time with them. The work is in your area of expertise. It's also very dangerous. When leaders put their own department first, the leadership team starts to look like Congress. Everyone argues for their constituents instead of solving the problems of the whole organization. Team #1 means the team you're on comes before the team you lead. Not because your people matter less. Because a cohesive leadership team is the only thing that keeps unwinnable battles from breaking out below it. It’s one of the core ideas in The Advantage. If your leadership team struggles with this common problem, share this video with them. Better yet, have them read the book and start building a cohesive Team #1. Patrick Lencioni shared thisOne of the biggest mistakes managers make is one I've made many times myself. We see one of our people doing something wrong, and we don’t call it out. It’s uncomfortable, so we wimp out and tell others close to us instead. The pressure builds, and eventually, one of three things happens. We lose it on them, and they have no idea where it came from. We ding them in a performance review, out of left field. Or we fire them, and it feels completely unfair. Because it is. They never knew. Letting people know when something needs to change is one of a leader’s biggest responsibilities, and it gives the other person dignity. Most people will change once they finally know. Others will realize the job isn’t the right fit. Both outcomes are far better than the mess that comes from staying silent.

Family foundations can be powerful tools for clients who want to create a lasting impact. While multigenerational philanthropy is inspiring, managing a foundation is often more complex than clients anticipate. Advisors are in a key position to help clients weigh the opportunity—and the responsibility—that comes with establishing a private foundation. Here’s what to consider before a client moves forward: 🔹 Annual distribution requirements: Private foundations are required to distribute at least 5% of their assets annually—regardless of market performance or personal preference. Clients hoping to grow the fund before giving may find this requirement limiting. 🔹 Ongoing governance and board responsibilities: Running a foundation is more than selecting causes—it’s managing meetings, maintaining records, reviewing grant proposals, and ensuring compliance. A board (often composed of family members) must be engaged, informed, and prepared to make collective decisions over time. 🔹 Administrative complexity: Private foundations require tax filings, investment oversight, legal documentation, and internal controls. Some families welcome this hands-on involvement, while others underestimate the effort required. 🔹 Family alignment and readiness: The most successful family foundations are built on shared values and realistic expectations. However, the foundation may struggle to meet its long-term goals if younger generations aren’t ready to participate or family dynamics are tense. For the right families, a foundation can be a meaningful structure for legacy, education, and values-based giving. But it’s critical to prepare for the operational demands—not just the inspiration behind it. #Legacy #Philanthropy #FamilyFoundation #Trustee

Aunnie Patton Power makes a compelling case: philanthropy has something venture capital doesn’t — complete freedom. No return requirement. No shareholder pressure. So why do most foundations still attach restrictions, avoid risk, and fund programs instead of people? In this clip, Aunnie breaks down what grantmakers can borrow from VC: unrestricted capital, betting on founders over formulas, and treating philanthropic dollars as the risk capital they were always meant to be. 🎙️ Full episode: https://lnkd.in/gHdeHtEu #venturecapital #venturephilanthropy #impactinvesting #theartofimpact

The Art of Succession Podcast

Failure isn’t the end; it’s your reset button. In this episode of The Art of Succession Podcast, host Barrett Young, CPA invites guest James Kell, Co-Founder of scratchie.com and Founder of Sailing Virgins, to explore the hard truths of taking over a 100-year-old family construction company in crisis and what it means to build something better after it all falls apart. He didn’t want the CEO title. He came back out of duty. At 28, the board quit, the bank pulled the overdraft, and the company’s survival came down to a single bold phone call. He kept the company going for 10 more years but eventually made the same mistake that sank it before. Instead of hiding the collapse, he faced it, owned it, and did what many CEOs don’t: he started over - smarter, humbler, stronger. Today, Scratchie is reshaping safety culture through instant, positive recognition. And it was born from the lessons that failure taught him. You don’t need to carry shame when a business folds but you do need to carry forward what it taught you. 🎧 Listen to the full episode on: https://lnkd.in/ex6-agJX --------------------------------------------------------- The 30-Question Ownership Readiness Diagnostic. Collaborative funds give donors a powerful way to achieve larger‑scale impact, gain deeper insight and support more equitable resourcing of frontline efforts. They also make it easier for grant‑seeking organisations to engage with multiple funders, reducing administrative burdens and giving them more time to focus on their mission. At the Beacon Philanthropy & Impact Forum, our CEO Nick Grono joined sector leaders to discuss the challenges, risks and opportunities of co‑funding. Thank you to The Beacon Collaborative for hosting a thoughtful conversation.
