This building is an engineering marvel, and the views? Unmatched. Chicago’s skyline and lakefront stretching out in every direction the kind of perspective that reminds you why this vertical matters. Huge thanks to Matthew Dorsch, PCAM, CPM, CMCA, AMS and the whole Community Associations Institute team for putting together a workshop that delivered real substance instead of just talking points. Walking the property with general managers and staff, you feel the scale of what’s at stake: 43 floors, 619 units, and a heating and cooling system that has to work flawlessly, 24/7, with zero room for downtime. These systems rely on IT infrastructure to pass through critical system alerts, security, and access. This is exactly why Sparta exists. As a Managed Intelligence Provider, we’re not just keeping the lights on we’re helping high-rise communities get ahead of the risk, modernize their infrastructure, and use AI to run smarter, safer buildings. David Gramblicka liked thisSomething Conner said towards the end of this episode has been sitting with me. He described companies that cut half their engineering teams expecting AI to carry the load, only to find that those people were not just building things. They were the ones deciding what to build and why. Without that, AI moves fast in the wrong direction. Connor put it plainly: you very easily take detours. You are still moving, but you are not really getting there as fast as you thought you would. What Avi added felt equally important: those people know your processes. Their job may change, it probably should, but that institutional knowledge does not transfer to a model. Whether it is QA, managing agents, or keeping the context alive across a project, you still need people who understand the work at a level AI cannot replicate yet. The technology makes your best people more powerful. It does not make them optional. This is a conversation worth having before making any decisions about your team.David Gramblicka liked thisTech companies spent two years laying off engineers because of AI. Now they're trying to hire them back. That's the thread that runs through this week's episode of #ThisWeekInAI, where Avi and Conner catch up on a lot of ground covered since they last recorded together. Fable 5 is back online. Anthropic's most powerful model was blocked by US export controls in June and only came back this week, now with tighter access controls and identity verification in place. The bigger takeaway: the regulatory conversation around frontier AI models is no longer theoretical. Abu Dhabi's MGX just closed a $49 billion AI fund, with significant stakes in both Anthropic and OpenAI. As Avi puts it: China is restricted, the Middle East is investing at scale, and every leading AI company right now is American. On the country's 250th year, that's a notable thing. On the topic of Anthropic specifically: Connor and Avi spend real time on a comparison worth thinking about. Anthropic, they argue, holds the same cultural position Apple had at its peak. Not just technically ahead, but somehow distinct in a way the other players haven't been able to manufacture. Other companies have more compute or more users. Anthropic has something closer to an aura. And then the boomerang. Companies that cut their engineering teams expecting AI to carry the load are now realizing those people weren't just executing tasks. They were providing the direction and judgment that kept projects coherent. AI can move fast. It still needs someone who knows where to go. Connor's own dev team at Right Click is growing, working on voice AI and automated call-handling systems for companies managing high call volumes, a good example of what it looks like when people and AI are working together the right way.
