Contrivian and Big Network have merged, and the software our team built now sits inside a platform engineered to use it. The old way: run a primary link and a backup, then wait. When the primary degrades or drops, traffic moves to the backup. By then the user has already felt it. A dropped call, a frozen file transfer, a timeout. What we do is measure every path at once, across fiber, wireless and LEO satellite, and move traffic based upon live performance before anyone notices a problem. The connections stop acting like separate links and start acting like one network. Contrivian Constellation™ already does this across multiple LEO constellations and terrestrial paths, so no single network is ever the thing that takes you down. To everyone who runs on Big Network and trusts it: the software is not going anywhere. It is getting more engineers, deeper integration, and a much bigger job to do. Good networking is invisible. One theme ran through every conversation: the AI-driven threat landscape is not a problem government solves alone, and it's not a problem industry solves alone. The attackers already operate as a networked ecosystem. Defenders have to do the same. Bugcrowd sees this from the ground every day through our hacker community, and sharing that view directly with the people writing policy is some of the highest-leverage work we do. Ben Yaris liked thisBen Yaris liked thisI review code for a living. And I'm watching junior engineers stop reading it. Not stop writing it. Stop reading it. AI generates. They accept. They move on. And when I ask them to walk me through what the code actually does — there's a pause that tells me everything. I can spot AI-written code in about 30 seconds. The tells are consistent: The comments narrate instead of explain. Every loop, every condition, every method gets a play-by-play. // Iterate over the list and process each item. That's not documentation. That's noise. And when you've read enough of it, you stop reading altogether — which is exactly what I'm seeing. The names are technically correct and practically meaningless. AI names things like it learned English from a dictionary. A developer who understood the domain would've named it something that meant something. The unit tests mock everything and prove nothing. Instead of testing the public interface — letting the system behave like a user would use it — AI-generated tests wire up elaborate reflection-based scaffolding to poke at internals. It looks thorough. It tests almost nothing that matters. The documentation is exhaustive in the wrong directions. Every method documented to death. Zero explanation of why a decision was made. All of this I can fix with a code review. What I can't fix as easily is the habit forming underneath it. Junior engineers are treating AI output as ground truth. They're not building the mental models that come from actually sitting with code — reading it, questioning it, tracing it through a debugger at 11pm because something doesn't make sense. That struggle is the learning. AI is short-circuiting it. I'm not anti-AI. I use it. It's a powerful tool in the hands of someone who can evaluate its output critically. But critical evaluation requires a foundation — and we're minting engineers who are skipping the part where they build one. Are other senior engineers and tech leads seeing this? I'd genuinely like to know if this is a pattern or if I'm just looking at a particularly rough sample.

US founders hiring Flutter in US time zones: here’s a 20-minute screen that beats a week of interviews. Ask for a production story. Prompt: “Walk me through a production issue you personally drove to resolution. What broke. What you did first. What you shipped. What you changed after.” What you’re listening for: They speak in “I”, not “we.” They make decisions, not escalations. They can name the follow-up change, not just the fix. That’s senior in a startup. Years of Flutter are just a proxy.
