We at Netnod are proud to announce a major investment to boost fiber capacity across Scandinavia with a new DWDM wavelength network. To make this happen, we are partnering with the Scandinavian company Smartoptics. Their expertise in open optical networking perfectly aligns with our focus on future-proof, sustainable, and secure infrastructure. In practice, this means: A robust ring structure connecting key hubs: Stockholm – Malmö – Gothenburg – Oslo with full control and flexibility to quickly adapt to the market’s highest demands for security and availability. Netnod has joined a broad coalition in signing a joint statement warning against some of the risks of the European Commission's proposed Digital Networks Act (DNA). Full statement below or at https://lnkd.in/esZVa68K
🔥 The Digital Networks Act (DNA) draws broad pushback: almost 40 organisations call on policymakers to deliver a clear, evidence-based telecoms framework that upholds net neutrality! A broad coalition, ranging from broadcasters and movie studios, news and magazine publishers, game developers, libraries, consumer groups, digital rights NGOs, to ISPs and internet exchanges, demands that EU co-legislators amend the DNA to: ⇒ Drop the ‘ecosystem cooperation’ (Articles 191-193) ⇒ Keep the Open Internet Regulation (OIR) as a standalone instrument Their concerns: ✱ The DNA strips 18 of 19 recitals of the OIR, gutting the interpretative backbone behind CJEU case law and BEREC guidelines ✱ Articles 191-193 introduce a ‘voluntary’ conciliation mechanism in an IP interconnection market that the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) has repeatedly confirmed is working competitively, with no evidence of market failure ✱ Network fees could sneak in through the back door, with ‘voluntary’ cooperation morphing into mandatory arbitration under political pressure Will the co-legislators heed this wide-ranging coalition’s warning, or will they risk jeopardising Europe’s Open Internet under the guise of “simplification” and give in to pressure from big telcos? 🔗 Joint statement: https://lnkd.in/eDriTzfd —— Signatories - Organisations Association of Commercial Television and Video on Demand Services in Europe - ACT Association for Competitive Technology AIIP | Associazione Italiana Internet Provider ARTICLE 19 BDZV BEUC - The European Consumer Organisation Blacknight Internet Solutions Ltd BREKO Bundesverband Breitbandkommunikation e.V.
