Or you get a reply that feels like: “You should already know this.” “Read the docs.” “Not my job to explain basics.” “Figure it out yourself.” And after hours of struggling, you finally solve it alone… wondering whether you’re “too slow” or “not good enough.” But here’s the truth: 🚨 The problem was never that the junior developer was slow. The problem was that knowledge-sharing became gatekeeping, not mentoring. Many seniors forget what it felt like to be new. Instead of teaching, they critique. Instead of guiding, they judge. Instead of empowering, they demoralize. And this culture has quietly pushed countless aspiring developers out of the field. Then AI Arrived — And Everything Changed With tools like ChatGPT, Gemini 3, and modern coding assistants, juniors suddenly have: 💡 Instant explanations 💡 Encouragement without judgment 💡 Answers at any level (basic or advanced) 💡 24/7 mentorship 💡 A safe space to learn without feeling “stupid” AI doesn’t sigh. AI doesn’t make you wait 8 hours. AI doesn’t shame you for not knowing something. For many aspiring developers, AI became the mentor they wished they had — patient, clear, and respectful. This Isn’t About Replacing Seniors — It’s About Rethinking How We Teach Good senior developers still play an irreplaceable role: ✨ Teaching mindset ✨ Architecture decisions ✨ Real-world experience ✨ Team guidance ✨ Code quality patterns But AI exposed something important: 👉 It doesn’t take ego to teach well. 👉 It doesn’t take shaming to explain something. 👉 It doesn’t take a whole day to support a junior. 👉 It only takes willingness. Maybe the rise of AI isn’t the end of mentoring… Maybe it’s a reminder of what mentoring was supposed to be all along: Helping people learn — not making them feel small. Obafemi Lawal la ut dette🎯 Fixing SVG Circles That Don't Fit Their Box Ran into a weird issue where a 200×200 SVG circle rendered as 196×196, leaving tiny gaps on the edges. I even had to set width to 202px for it to fit… which felt wrong. Turns out the problem wasn’t the SVG. It was CSS. Most of us use this global reset: *, *::before, *::after { box-sizing: border-box; } Great for HTML. Terrible for SVG. border-box breaks SVG geometry and makes stroke affect layout calculations. ✅ The simple fix svg, svg * { box-sizing: content-box; } Instantly fixes: ✔ Circle not touching edges ✔ Stroke overflow ✔ Random 1–2px gaps ✔ Weird scaling issues 🏆 Credit Discovered this while debugging an SVG layout issue. Sharing so more devs avoid the same trap.

Obafemi Lawal delte detteKyle Simpson, First i would like to say thank you for your great insight on the closure topic, one question i would like to ask is, from the above/below snippet for each setTimeout and the callback function we are passing, as i can understand, they are holding on to the (i) that was passed to them, so in this case, since (i) isn't a var, and its a let, is a different memory location/pointer assigned to each (i) for every iteration, because then how come the value doesn't change, so each console.log(i) is actually pointing to a different address of (i) because (i) can't be reassigned. then its like actually for each (i) the behind the scene is taking a location and assigning a value at runtime then the value from this location as closure to each function at every iteration

Chuka Akunna And I actually find working with AI easier and more confidence-building rather than slower.
When you already have some understanding of the topic and can clearly explain the problem you’re facing, AI becomes a teacher right in front of you one you can ask any follow-up questions without hesitation. You can probe, rephrase, go deeper, or ask for examples until the explanation fully clicks, all without social friction or fear of judgment.

Chuka Akunna from my experience, some exceptional senior developers are willing to engage structurally, setting clear plans or tasks that help juniors build skills progressively, without feeling overwhelmed. They remain available for support and explain things in a way that never makes you feel “stupid.” When you encounter those seniors, learning is fast, efficient, and motivating.
However, outside of that group, many seniors could improve their ability to support and critique. While time and cost absolutely matter, issues are often not truly resolved when a senior simply “fixes” the problem without explanation. In many cases, this happens because they don’t have the time or don’t make the time to explain the reasoning behind the solution.
That approach may feel faster in the moment, but it usually leads to more questions later, repeated mistakes, and dependency rather than understanding. In the long run, it doesn’t actually save time or cost it just defers them.
AI, by contrast, fills that explanation gap instantly. It may require a few prompts, but the learning actually sticks, which reduces future friction and follow-up questions.
