why volunteer with us?
• Make a Real Impact: Your team’s efforts help distribute fresh, healthy food to neighbors facing hunger.
• Engaging, Hands-On Service: Activities like packing food and building boxes create opportunities for connection and teamwork.
• Educational Experience: Deepen your team’s understanding of food justice in your own community.
what your team will do
Just Eats Program
Your team will pack grocery boxes for our Just Eats program in an assembly-line style at our Somerville Packing and Distribution Center. The setting is dynamic, fast, and physical—we guarantee your team will love it! The grocery boxes you pack will be distributed by Food For Free trucks to food-insecure families and individuals through our network of partnerships with schools, housing sites, and community organizations across Greater Boston.

support our work
Corporate group volunteer days require significant coordination and staff time to ensure a meaningful and smooth experience.

What Teams Are Saying
“Volunteering at Food For Free is an energizing event that we look forward to every year. Our team always has an enjoyable time with their team and is proud to serve the community.”
—Jeffrey, Turner Construction Company
“What I loved the most about volunteering with Food For Free is that the team provides the perfect mix of ‘why’ and opportunity to contribute. The initial introduction to Food For Free and short brief on how bean packing fits into the overall mission was very helpful for us to develop a good sense of purpose and motivation. Then well-structured activity with a challenging but achievable target provided us with a good avenue to channel our motivation. In addition, being able to physically see what we have done collectively towards the end of the session was a big plus.”
—Hyungsik Kim, Harvard Kennedy School
“We started volunteering at Food For Free in the spring of 2023. Our goal was to create opportunities for students to engage with the Somerville community, and Food For Free felt like the perfect partner. Since then, we’ve had many students participate in the program, and it has been a truly rewarding and enriching experience for everyone involved.”
—Brittaney Courier Vello, Somerville Public Schools
