Tom Rocco liked thisTom Rocco liked thisThe schoolyard bully didn’t disappear. They learned PowerPoint. We keep treating toxic leadership as a “culture problem” or a few bad actors. The research suggests it’s more structural than personal. Certain traits that get rewarded in corporate systems look a lot like the traits we’d shut down in a playground. When those traits scale, the cost isn’t just morale. It shows up in innovation loss, burnout, and long-term organizational damage that never appears on dashboards. I wrote a deeper piece connecting the psychology, the incentives, and the downstream consequences. If you’ve ever wondered why some destructive leadership patterns seem immune to consequences, this will feel uncomfortably familiar.
