Sivan Whiteley posted thisBig personal news that we shared with our company (and the SEC of course) yesterday. I'm leaving Block after an incredible 10 year run! First I want to congratulate Chrysty Esperanza who is primed and ready to take on the interim CLO role and Tait Svenson who will step into Chrysty's shoes as interim GC for Block along with his current role as GC of TIDAL. These two are bad asses - fearless and shrewd and way nicer than I am. I'm beyond excited for them, our team, and the company. I'm so deeply grateful for the experiences and opportunities I've had at Block and the amazing teammates I've learned so much from over the years. These are some of the smartest, kindest, and most innovative people I've ever met ❤ As for what's next - I'm taking a year off. Apparently even the well-intentioned have a hard time actually doing this but I'm up for the challenge! When I reflect back, I’ve learned so many work/life lessons along the way (mostly the hard way by first doing it wrong). Run towards piles of shit Have a perspective Be a contrarian Embrace change and dive in head first See mistakes as opportunities to learn and build credibility Push boundaries and question everything Listen and gather information before drawing conclusions I'm looking forward to seeing what lessons I learn when I take a step back and relax a bit. Will keep you posted 😊

Sivan Whiteley shared thisSo proud to welcome our new brand - Block! Who says a corporate brand has to be mundane? Our businesses Square, Cash App, TIDAL, and TBD are not going anywhere, we’re just adding the Block umbrella. And thrilled to welcome the newly minted Spiral brand (fka Square Crypto)! When I joined Square in 2013, I never in my wildest dreams expected that one day I'd take on the Corporate Communications team and be tasked with rebranding our company. But here we are and I'm so lucky to work with these talented and creative leaders who took a seed of an idea and birthed Block. Thank you to the Block brand and purpose powerhouse who brought this to life led by Demetra Airaudi - Jen Murse, Pete Schirmer, Emily S., Lynne Carstarphen, Chelsea L., Angie Garland, Neil Shankar, Chloe Stokes, Halina Loft, Anna Caldwell, Makenzie Spiller, Patience Tait-Morris. We did this with the collaboration, spirit, and sheer talent of that group plus Sekani Solomon who is the genius behind the 3D animation movie - OMG it's amazing - and Robert Andersen who continues to influence our design and artistic direction…from our very first Square logo to where we are today - thank you, you are a force! Comms crushed it with Colleen Murray and Lena Anderson leading us through this shift, and Helen Prowse, Caitlin Walsh, Tyesha Friday, Leslie Jackson, and Shino Tokimatsu sharing our vision around the world. From the Legal side of the house there was a lot of support and special shout outs to MVPs Lindsey B. Furtado, Kelly N. Diep, and Jennifer Dack Brooks! Many, many others across our company worked tirelessly to make this a reality. Julie Negrelli - I literally couldn't do anything without your unwavering support, humor, and ability to see around corners. block.xyz

Sivan Whiteley liked thisSivan Whiteley liked thisToday we’re relaunching Blazel after a major pivot and layoffs. This has been 10x harder than my last startup, but I will not give up. We were previously an AI Native Agency creating Linkedin content for 100+ CEOs with $1.5M ARR. I decided to shut it all down as I wanted to build something more disruptive than another damned ‘AI Native Agency’. As a former VC, I noticed Linkedin was the #1 GTM channel for the fastest growing B2B companies in the world but it’s so hard to do it right. I estimate that 50% of B2B teams reading this have tried to vibe-code a content agent in Claude Code but there is just way too much AI SLOP! We’ve spent millions building our own harness, fine-tuning models and obsessing over every detail to optimize Linkedin as a GTM channel. We productized everything that worked in our agency and are now releasing it at a fraction of the price it costs to hire a ghost writer. Our AI agent Ember will interview you, proactively send you content on Slack, and push leads to your CRM. Blazel would love to help make Linkedin your #1 GTM channel.

Sivan Whiteley liked thisSivan Whiteley liked thisI'm pleased to share that I've joined Collectors as Global Head of Security and Asset Protection. Collectors is the leading creator of technology-driven services for collectors worldwide — authenticating, grading, vaulting, and selling millions of record-setting collectibles across trading cards, coins, video games, memorabilia, and more. Its brands include PSA, PSA Vault, PCGS, Collectors Financial Solutions, SGC, and Card Ladder. The company's reputation rests on a simple premise: people trust it with things that are often irreplaceable. Building and maturing the security and asset protection function behind that trust, at a company scaling as quickly as this one, is exactly the kind of work I've spent my career on. Prior to this, I was the first dedicated security hire at both Square and Stripe, building each program from the ground up during periods of rapid growth and international expansion. I've also held security leadership roles at Pixar and, most recently, as SVP of Enterprise Operations and CSO at Impossible Foods. I'm grateful to the team at Collectors for the opportunity, and I'm looking forward to getting started.

Sivan Whiteley reacted on thisSivan Whiteley reacted on thisIt’s been about a month since I stepped in to lead Block’s People team, and it still feels like a pinch me moment. I’ve always been proud to be part of this team and now I'm even prouder to lead it. I joined Block five and a half years ago. Since then, I’ve supported teams across our businesses and learned from so many remarkable people along the way. Those experiences and those people have shaped how I lead and they make this moment even more meaningful. There’s never been a more interesting and exciting time to take this on. AI is changing what we build, how we build it, and what people and teams can achieve. And since Block has always challenged assumptions, we now get to bring that same spirit to writing the playbook for the future of work. Let's go! 🚀

The Recorder
Sivan Whiteley, who joined the mobile payments company in 2013, has had a large impact on both the product side of the business and its litigation. Earlier this year, Whiteley, her in-house team, and outside counsel at Keker & Van Nest fought back claims that Square's food-delivery service Caviar misclassified workers as independent contractors. Whiteley also negotiated a settlement with a Washington University professor who claimed he was a Square cofounder.

The legal relationship between UBER, Drivers, and Riders has consistently faced scrutiny, particularly regarding legal responsibility and liability. The Gig Economy is at a critical juncture, especially with the emergence of Robotaxi fleets. It is essential to prioritize the protection of Riders, Motorists, and the Public over corporate interests. This ongoing battle is currently unfolding in California but is expected to spread to other states. Similar to past legal disputes over whether Drivers should be classified as employees or independent contractors, the focus remains on profits over safety amid the shifting dynamics of the Ride Share Economy. Privacy regulators are increasingly focused on execution. The California Attorney General is emphasizing that consumer opt-out rights must function seamlessly in practice, not just exist in policy language. For organizations that sell or share personal information, this is an important reminder to stress-test internal processes and third-party data flows. This update breaks down what businesses should be watching.

"Two federal courts have rewritten the rules of legal holds over the past year, and most in-house counsel haven’t noticed yet. In In re OpenAI, Inc. Copyright Infringement Litigation MDL (S.D.N.Y. 2025) and Tremblay v. OpenAI (N.D. Cal. 2024–2025), judges made clear that artificial intelligence (AI)-generated content—prompts, outputs, and metadata—constitutes electronically stored information (ESI) subject to immediate preservation when litigation is reasonably anticipated." https://lnkd.in/ejKMih8p
