When the opportunity came to bring in Ron, a trusted advisor and multi-time (and multi-IPO!) For me, this means going all-in on product strategy, product management, UX -- and spending a lot more time in the field: with our customers, our partners, and the procurement/supply chain and AI communities. I loved him unconditionally like a brother and I’m still incredibly saddened by his passing. Hearing his voice here made me cry but it also brought such joy, a sound artifact that helps bring to life what I hear in my head when I think of him each day. The Carrot IS the Stick is out. Here is the whole thing in one line: your sales team did exactly what you paid them to do. That is not a criticism. It is a diagnostic. If your reps are discounting to close, sandbagging at quarter end, or ignoring the deals you need them to win, the answer is in the comp plan. Not the team. The plan.
