It’s
#NationalCROWNDay commemorating inaugural signing of U.S.
#CrownAct in 2019 to "Create a Respectful & Open World for Natural Hair."
It passed seven months too late for me when news mgmt told me to inform them and ask for permission next time I decided to make a hair change and wear my
#naturalhair on air instead of the wig after
#breastcancertreatments.
Imagine hearing this from a news director (also representing the GM’s concerns and questioning) after I walk off the set after my 5pm broadcast, and then have to shake it off and prepare my mind to anchor the 6pm.
#Unconscionable #Biased #Discrimination
My tears were flowing inside. The
#trauma of that moment will forever live with me, but I’m turning that pain into a purpose for the benefit of humanity.
I’m thankful
#blackwomen are now legally protected from biased opinions of others as to what is acceptable!
No longer do we have to subscribe to an inauthentic look, long suffering hair processes on a daily basis, not to mention a lot of $$$ and time, and explaining why my
#blackhair may look differently every day, just to make others feel comfortable.
