Mark Haseltine shared thisReposting because this maps to something I think about daily on the product side. Outcomes-based contracting only works if a provider can see what's happening in a classroom well before June. Kelly's piece gets at the real mechanism here: the contract sets the accountability. The governance meetings, the shared data reviews, the course correction throughout the year, those are what actually move outcomes. That's an operating model. At Curriculum Associates, it's why we invest as much in the data infrastructure behind a program as the program itself: something has to surface what's working early enough in the year to still change it for a kid, not just confirm it in June. Worth reading in full, especially for anyone in your district or organization starting to ask this question. #OutcomesBasedContracting #K12EducationMark Haseltine shared thisAt its heart, outcomes-based contracting asks a simple but important question: Are districts and providers working together in a way that measurably improves student learning? When a contract is tied to agreed-upon student outcomes, it creates clear expectations and shared accountability while opening the door to a deeper partnership. Our experience with outcomes-based contracting has taught us that the strength of this partnership—built on shared goals, communicating more often, looking at the data together, and a willingness to learn and adjust—drives the strongest results. In my piece with The 74 Media, I share what we’ve learned from our partnership with Fresno Unified School District about making outcomes-based contracting more meaningful and, most importantly, more beneficial for students.Outcomes-Based Contracting Requires Not Just Accountability, but PartnershipOutcomes-Based Contracting Requires Not Just Accountability, but Partnership

Mark Haseltine shared thisFalmouth Road Race: done — and thank you. Finished in just over an hour on Sunday, but the time was the least interesting part of the day. What stays with me is everything around it: the mile markers, the orange slices and water stations, strangers lining the course to cheer. So many runners out there with a name on their shirt, running for someone who couldn't be there — a reminder that running for a cause gives people something to hold onto when everything else feels out of their control. That's exactly why I keep coming back to raise money for Why Me & Sherry's House, a Worcester nonprofit supporting Central New England families coping with childhood cancer. Thanks to so many of you, I surpassed my fundraising goal — and our team crossed nearly $45,000 for the organization as a whole. We need more of this: reasons to show up for each other, shoulder to shoulder, for something bigger than ourselves. Thank you to everyone who gave, shared, or sent a good-luck text. See you out there next year.

Mark Haseltine shared thisI've had the chance to get to know Ilana Walder-Biesanz and the National Math Stars team over the past year, and the mission is one I believe in deeply: making sure mathematically extraordinary kids get the support they need, regardless of zip code or circumstance. They're now hiring their Founding Head of Technology to build out the digital infrastructure behind that mission, a great opportunity for a builder who wants real ownership and impact. If you know a player-coach engineering leader who'd love this kind of challenge, I'd encourage you to take a look.Mark Haseltine shared thisAoPS partner National Math Stars seeks a Founding Head of Technology to build out their digital infrastructure as they head into a key scaling phase, while also playing a key role in supporting org-wide use of AI. The role is remote; check here for more info: https://lnkd.in/g3U9SDCu

Mark Haseltine shared thisWith the 4th behind us, my thoughts are turning to August 16th and the Falmouth Road Race. This will be my 4th year running it to raise money for Why Me & Sherry's House — a Worcester nonprofit that supports Central New England families coping with childhood cancer. I keep coming back not for the run itself, but for what it supports: families navigating one of the hardest things imaginable, getting the financial and emotional support they need to get through it. I’m nearly two-thirds of the way to my $1,500 goal. If you’re able to contribute, any amount helps. And if not, sharing this post helps too. https://lnkd.in/gwdfPFY9

Mark Haseltine shared thisI'm the CPTO at Curriculum Associates. I lead the team that builds i-Ready. When our product faces public criticism, I need to either stand behind it or say where we're wrong. Kelly Sia published a piece in the Fordham Institute today addressing the recent criticism directly. On time: the recommended usage for i-Ready Personalized Instruction is 30–49 minutes a week. About 6–10 minutes a day. Reports of students spending an hour or more are usually conflating two different products. That distinction matters. On evidence: an independent, IES-funded study of nearly 28,000 students found statistically significant MAP gains. The strongest results were among students traditionally hardest to reach. Up to 14 weeks of instructional growth. And outcomes were better when teachers actively assigned lessons alongside the platform. Teacher judgment is how this works best. A teacher Kelly heard from said it well: "You can't fight darkness with a stick; you have to shine a light." I stand behind this. #edtech #K12

Mark Haseltine shared thisSpent last week with our Stile Education team in Melbourne. Two things worth saying. The team is doubling down on editorial taste and pedagogical depth as the moat. The engineering is moving fast. The content judgment is what makes it work. They're also taking offline science work seriously. Print, scanned student responses, paper assignments with AI in the loop. What teachers and students actually need in a classroom is broader than what fits on a screen, and they're building toward that. Both instincts will translate well across Curriculum Associates. More on each in the coming weeks. #EdTech #AIinEducationMark Haseltine shared thisLast week, I was in the Melbourne office for some invaluable in-person time with our colleagues in Australia. While it’s been nearly a year since our acquisition of Stile Education, I still remember my first visit — I genuinely couldn’t tell who was a CA colleague and who came from Stile. From day one, it’s felt like one team. That sense of belonging was at the heart of my conversations with Byron Scaf and Danny Pikler, the co-founders of Stile, and with the entire team — and it’s what makes this work so meaningful. From aligning Stile Science to state-specific standards, to Mississippi approval earning the highest review scores, to leveraging Live Class to enhance Classroom Mathematics California Grades 6–8 for BTS 26, it’s exciting to see how our mission is supporting teachers and student learning. A huge highlight of my trip was a school visit, where Jacky Rooney from our Professional Learning team modeled a science class. Students were on their feet, sharing ideas, and genuinely engaged. She was at the center; the technology was serving her. That’s exactly what we’re here to help make possible. I’m proud of our global teams, the work we’re doing, and the way we’re always learning and pushing each other to be better for the educators and students we serve.

Mark Haseltine shared thisOne of the things I’ve been focused on early at Curriculum Associates is spending time with teams across the organization — especially where new capabilities are taking shape. The Dublin visit was a great example of that. Our AI Labs team is doing important work, and what stood out to me was how grounded it is in real problems we’re trying to solve for educators and students. At the same time, the real opportunity is in how this connects with everything else we’re building. AI innovation doesn’t live in one place — it comes to life in how we build and ship across product, content, and engineering, and ultimately in what shows up in the classroom. Appreciated the time with the team and the perspective they brought. #EdTech #AIinEducationMark Haseltine shared thisEarlier this month, I really enjoyed spending time with our global AI innovation team—in person at our new Dublin office and virtually with colleagues across the U.S. and India. The team brought so much energy and, just as importantly, real care to our discussions. We’re not building AI for the sake of it. We’re exploring where AI can make a positive, responsible impact in classrooms. That’s why we’re working alongside educators—testing ideas in real classrooms and learning which tools can best support their work, and how to make those tools even better. Thank you to everyone for your thoughtful questions and for keeping teachers and students at the center of everything we build.

Mark Haseltine shared thisThoughtful perspective from Kelly Sia on screen time in schools. As we build instructional technology, the goal isn’t more time on screens—it’s purposeful use that supports teachers and helps drive real learning outcomes.Mark Haseltine shared thisAt Curriculum Associates, we believe student outcomes are the only metric that matters. That means being clear-eyed about how our programs are used and whether that time is purposeful, connected to instruction, and supporting student growth. We exist in service of our educator partners with more than a third of Curriculum Associates employees working on our service team directly alongside educators to make sure they are supported in their daily practice and implementation of our programs. #iReady has been studied at scale across states, districts, and students from diverse populations—including students with disabilities and English language learners. The results are consistent: when used as intended, students who use i-Ready demonstrate stronger outcomes in reading and mathematics than their peers who do not. You can learn more about our research and efficacy here: https://bit.ly/3O7sxFS Our mission is simple: make classrooms better places for teachers and students. Everything we build, every partnership we form, and every decision we make comes back to that.

Mark Haseltine posted thisI’m excited to share that I’ve joined Curriculum Associates as Chief Product & Technology Officer. What drew me to Curriculum Associates is its clear focus on supporting teachers and improving outcomes for students at scale. Its curriculum, assessments, and digital platforms are used by millions of students and educators across the country, and the mission behind that work really resonated with me, especially as a parent navigating the K–12 system. Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to work across different parts of the learning ecosystem, from large-scale online learning at edX to creator-driven education at Teachable. Curriculum Associates represents another important part of that landscape, helping schools deliver high-quality instruction and insight into student learning. I’m looking forward to working with teams across product, engineering, content, and design to continue evolving the platform and supporting teachers and students in meaningful ways. Grateful for the opportunity and excited for the work ahead. #EdTech #K12 #ProductLeadership

Mark Haseltine reacted on thisMark Haseltine reacted on thisThree months ago, I joined Gibson Dunn to lead our Business Application teams — and I've been meaning to share an update since. It's been a fast and energizing start. I'm helping lead our organization through a significant AI transformation, rethinking how our teams build, ship, and support the applications that power the firm. There's a lot happening behind the scenes that I'm excited to share more about in the months ahead, but for now I'll just say: the pace of innovation here has exceeded even my expectations. I also want to take a moment to thank my manager, Laura Beucher, and our CTO, Lawrence Baxter, for the warm welcome. Their leadership has been genuinely refreshing — the kind of clarity, trust, and vision that makes you want to show up and do your best work. I feel fortunate to learn from both of them every day. None of this happens without a strong team, and that's where I could use your help. I'm hiring for multiple engineering roles as we scale this effort — if you're excited about applying AI to real-world enterprise problems, at a firm that's genuinely investing in doing it right, I'd love to talk. A few months in, I'm even more convinced I landed in the right place. Grateful for the warm welcome, and looking forward to building something great. If you or someone in your network might be a fit for our engineering team, send me a message — always happy to connect.

And many of us know people that have voluntarily moved from leadership back to a builder role. However, I see this as a temporary state. I have appreciated the challenges and loved the people. All journeys end. I've decided to step away and worked with the leadership team to transition to new technical leaders I brought to the company and know they will do well in the race ahead. "Life itself is a race, marked by a start, and a finish. It is what we learn during the race, and how we apply it, that determines whether our participation has had particular value. The most exciting use of AI in education isn’t in a chatbot but in how it has the potential to make education R&D more efficient, cheaper, and more accessible to all education innovators. In my latest piece, I explore this idea more fully: https://lnkd.in/eWZQmsQm

The 2026 State of Nonprofit AI Adoption and Governance Report from NTEN and The Bridgespan Group is packed with insights, but one finding really stood out to me. In response to the question, "What do you understand to be the main reasons your organization decided to adopt or invest in AI tools?" executives and staff often told very different stories. As the report notes: "Where executives describe deliberate strategy, staff more often describe adoption as something that continues to happen to and around them, driven by external pressures or day-to-day work needs rather than being intentional, collaborative, and planned." That made me wonder: If nonprofits are investing significant time and resources in AI strategy, governance, policies, and planning, why do so many staff members experience AI adoption as something happening to them rather than with them? How do we make strategy visible? How do we connect AI decisions to people's day-to-day work in ways that feel meaningful, transparent, and participatory? Report: https://lnkd.in/geFSZj7e

Matt Goff spent 15+ years in product management, most recently leading data and operations work in edtech, before deciding it was time for his next step: a Group Product Manager role. In this conversation, Matt walks through his path from financial services into higher ed marketing, into edtech, and now into his new role at Frontline Education, where he's leading a team to modernize the absence and time product and integrate it across the broader product ecosystem. He also gets honest about what the job search actually looked like, joining right before the holidays, underestimating how much reflection work was involved, balancing a full-time job and a toddler, and the almost 8 months it took from starting the process to accepting an offer. If you're a product manager thinking about your next move and wondering whether a structured program is worth it, this one's worth the watch. Link to the full conversation with Matt in the comments!

What if we treated technology in education the same way we treat strategy in product delivery? In my experience leading product and delivery teams, the most impactful solutions come from aligning what we build with clear outcomes and real-world feedback. Too often edtech conversations focus on features or hype rather than whether tools help teachers and students succeed every day. There is huge potential to build tools that improve clarity of instruction, reduce friction for educators, and surface meaningful insights for learning outcomes. The hard part isn’t inventing more features. It’s deciding what matters most, investing in that work, and iterating based on evidence from the classroom. For those building or evaluating edtech products: what’s one principle you rely on to make sure your technology drives real results? #edtech #productstrategy #learninginnovation #k12education #digitallearning

I recently wrote a detailed playbook for CEOs and C-suite of small to midsize carriers that are LIMRA and LOMA members, on how to get started with, and swiftly scale, their AI journeys. As that goes through our design and publishing process, I ended the playbook with the statement below, one that I believe has salience regardless of size or sector of your firm: "AI is not a replacement for human intelligence, but a powerful tool that, when used responsibly, can amplify our capabilities and drive transformative change. In the age of AI, the key to success lies not in the technology itself, but in the strategic vision and human ingenuity that guide its implementation. The path to AI-driven transformation is paved with collaboration, continuous improvement, and a steadfast commitment to leveraging technology for the greater good." Bottomline: To succeed with technology, you need to quadruple down on people, and that people are equipped with the optimized business processes to make the technology, in turn, work for people.

At WGU we use data and real-time feedback to adjust student content, pacing, and support. These things in education are no longer optional if we want to deliver access and value at scale. WGU has been working toward this for years. Personalized learning means understanding each student’s starting point and supporting them at their own pace. Our competency-based model makes that possible, and AI is helping us take it further. Through better data integration, quality dashboards, and predictive insights, we’re learning how to identify when a student needs help before they ask. It’s complex work, but it’s how we make technology genuinely helpful for each learner. #AI #HigherEd #DigitalLearning #WGU #CompetencyBasedEducation #EdTech
