John Ryan liked thisJohn Ryan liked thisMy Book Bite went live at the Next Big Idea Club today. Ten days in, Collective Confidence is a NBIC September Must Read, a Top 10 Business Book of the Fall, and #1 as a New Release in its category on Amazon. There is a bunch of good stuff in the book. But, one of my favorite ideas has to do with the concept of contributory confidence or "putting everyone's genius to work." Everyone needs to know why they matter on the team. Many employees can recite their job description, but far fewer can tell you why they are vital on their specific team. That is because you haven't made that clear to them or the team. Action: Tell one person this week what only they bring to the team and what you would lose without it. Do it in front of the whole team. Then, tell me what happens next. Check out the book bite. I think you will like it.

John Ryan liked thisJohn Ryan liked thisReturning home from Singapore inspired, after a week spent with an exceptional group of senior leaders. While we covered many leadership topics, one theme stood out: Psychological safety and accountability - high performing teams and orgs need both. Not “nice versus tough,” but the clarity, trust and candor that creates high performing teams, helps people to do their best work and ultimately succeed. Leadership’s greatest impact is creating the conditions where both can flourish! (Faces have been blurred to respect and protect participant privacy!) #leadership

As part of the evening, CIL Executive Director Garrett Stern invited attendees to reflect on the traits great leaders model and how those qualities show up in their own leadership. The celebration was especially meaningful for our team as CIL Senior Leadership Fellow Clemson Turregano was among this year’s honorees. We were proud to celebrate Clemson and the leadership, wisdom and perspective he brings to CIL and those we serve. There's a new addition to the fleet of maritime vessels serving the Marine Corps in the Pacific, and its name is Matilda. Matilda 1, a specialized stern landing vessel that can transport troops from ship to shore or from beachhead to beachhead, is notable for its shallow draft, allowing it to navigate littoral waters the way few other vessels its size can. But it's also different in how the Marine Corps acquired it for use. The 240-foot boat was designed by the Australian firm Seatransport and constructed by Indonesian builder Karimun Anugrah Sejati. It became operational earlier this year and was made available to the Marine Corps via a three-year charter agreement with the Marine Corps Warfighting Lab, managed by the firm MariGuard LLC.
