Today, I step down as CEO of
Conductor. The best job I ever had. And now handed to the best leader I know.
My dad worked 40+ years for the state and did inspections at night. Always working. Didn't/couldn't retire until late in life. I wanted something different.
The first iteration of Conductor was LinkExperts. We built links for big companies. I was 23. I took a lunch break to graduate from college. Then I went back to work. My initial goal was freedom and independence. To take my dad's sacrifice, and build a greater foundation.
I turned 44 last week. The last 20 years have led me to places I just can't explain…the greatest bliss and joy. And the darkest, most inescapable pain.
What started out as a pursuit of freedom morphed into a purpose to build something great. To leave the world a little better than I found it. And to do it with people I'd come to love, who became the bedrock of my life. I raced out of childhood with a fear of abandonment (didn't learn this until my mid-30s). And looking back, we aimed to build not just a company, but also a home I hoped no one would ever want to leave.
Conductor has long been more than a business; making money is just an outcome. Our mission is to help brands help their customers, and transform our team into better people, all at the same time. I'm so proud of where we are, the people behind it, and all the paths we chose (and avoided) to get here.
Years ago, I read "Good to Great"… it said great leaders make decisions for the company, never for themselves. I've followed that religiously. And when I look at who should lead Conductor into the AI future we've been building toward, the answer is so clear. It's Wei.
I'm incredibly excited to announce
Wei Zheng as the next CEO of Conductor. Since she joined 5 years ago, she's approached every day as if Conductor were her very own. As selfless as I've experienced in 20 years. She's led the transformation that gives Conductor the most modern and scalable AEO platform, a truly AI-native data architecture, and engineering velocity that is beyond comprehension. She's an incredible leader, thinks big yet stays close to customers…and understands that great companies are built by great people.
People-first. Customer-first. It's on our t-shirts, and it runs deep in our blood. It's how we've won year after year and outlasted nearly every competitor. It's also why 100+ Conductors have been with us for 5+ years. And in Wei's hands, it's the fuel that will drive Conductor forward with the best products, built by the best people, for our customers.
I'll have Wei and the team's back from the Board and as a major shareholder. I move forward with a heart full of gratitude and inspiration from everyone at Conductor, past and present, and from the customers who have trusted us for so long.
Follow Conductor. Prepare to be blown away.
What's next for me? For the first time in my life, I have no idea what I'm doing next week. Going to see where that takes me.
