Dante Rufa, MBA liked thisDante Rufa, MBA liked thisAfter almost 23 years at ICE, I’m leaving the company and look forward to taking some time to focus on family and plan for new opportunities in 2025. This week, as I participated in the NYSE’s annual tree lighting, I couldn’t help but reflect on the incredible journey I’ve had. Starting as an infosec engineer, I thought I’d be at ICE for a couple of years—not over two decades! Back then, we were a company of just a couple hundred people, and as part of operations, I sat in a huge bullpen room. Being in one big room kept everyone informed and ready to contribute to solutions. This often meant jumping into the Call Center to answer ‘Help Desk’ calls during the RFL (router forced logouts) storms that were inevitable on our busiest days. Today, ICE has grown to 14,000 employees across more than 50 offices worldwide, driving innovation in financial services technology. What an unbelievable ride it has been. From Friday night Market Router reboot marathons and testing Nagling settings on load balancers, to leading the NYSE Tech Council and speaking at conferences as the CIO of the NYSE, I’ve cherished every moment and challenge. Reflecting on my time at ICE, I’ve had the privilege to work and learn from some of the most talented and dedicated people I’ve ever met—many of whom have become lifelong friends. It's been rewarding to watch your careers and families grow. I’m immensely proud of the incredible teams I’ve been part of and the milestones we’ve achieved. Leading the integrations of NYBOT, NYSE, IDC, and Ellie Mae were transformative experiences, each one demonstrating ICE’s ability to tackle complex challenges and create new opportunities. Collaborating on ICE Mortgage Technology offered insights into new industries and shaping the digital transformation of the mortgage process. Spending 23 years with one company is uncommon. The opportunities Jeff Sprecher, Chuck Vice, Lynn Martin, and the rest of the ICE leadership team provided me—and so many others—were truly extraordinary. I am so thankful to have been part of this scrappy Atlanta startup. In the very early days, it was far from inevitable that we would succeed. I vividly remember days at the RiverEdge office where we were sometimes unsure if the company was going to survive—yikes! ICE is a special place where innovation thrives, the best ideas win, and there is an unrelenting focus on customer success. I am grateful to have been part of its incredible growth story. I’m ready for a career break to reconnect with my wife and kids—one at Clemson University, The University of Georgia (it’s going to be a fun CFP!), and my youngest as she finishes high school. I’m also starting to think about the next chapter of my journey: Chuck 2.0. I'm excited for new opportunities and bringing the lessons and experiences from my time at ICE to new challenges. I’ll be cheering everyone at ICE on and can’t wait to see what’s next. I look forward to hearing from you as I prepare for the next chapter!
