Dan Mano shared thisCNBC recently interviewed me about what’s happening in the diamond market. Only a few of my comments made it into the final piece, so I want to expand on one important point. Synthetic diamonds have essentially the same chemical and physical characteristics as natural diamonds. From a chemical perspective, they are diamonds. But what makes a precious stone valuable is not only what it is made of. Scarcity matters. Synthetic diamonds can be produced in increasing quantities. They are not scarce, and that is a fundamental reason their prices have fallen so dramatically. Natural diamonds are different. They are a finite natural resource, and after several very difficult years for the industry, natural-diamond prices are now maybe at rock-bottom levels. I made this point in the interview as well: I believe this is a very interesting time to buy natural diamonds. Watch the interview below. Elizabeth Napolitano CNBC

Dan Mano shared thisWe have forgotten the value of waiting. I recently celebrated my son’s fifth birthday, and watching his excitement around his presents reminded me of a green BMX bike I desperately wanted as a child. I waited months for that bike. When I finally got it, it meant everything to me. Part of what made it so special was the anticipation. Today, almost anything we want can arrive at our door tomorrow. Convenience is wonderful, but when everything is instantly available, it becomes harder for anything to feel truly special. There’s a lesson here for the natural diamond industry. We cannot compete on abundance, nor should we. Natural diamonds are rare, finite and formed over billions of years. Our opportunity is to remind consumers why that rarity matters and why some things are worth waiting for. That green BMX taught me something I still believe today: value isn’t about having more. It’s about recognizing what is worth having.

Dan Mano shared thisWe made changes to the Rapaport Diamond Price List this week, reflecting continued improvement in parts of the natural diamond market. We’re seeing recovery continue in 0.30 to 0.69 carat diamonds, particularly 0.30-carat VS goods. At the same time, US inventory remains uneven, with some categories oversupplied and others increasingly difficult to source. This is an important reminder that the diamond market does not move as one. Different categories are responding differently to supply, demand and broader trading conditions, and understanding those distinctions is critical. The industry has been through a challenging period, but greater supply discipline is helping restore balance in parts of the market. There is still work ahead, and maintaining that discipline will be important as we continue building a healthier and more sustainable natural diamond market.

Dan Mano reposted thisDan Mano reposted thisThe best grandpa in the universe called me “Blue Diamond.” 💎 Growing up, my Dadosa, Prem Chand Dhandia, was my hero. He was a legendary figure in the international diamond and colored-gemstone trade, but to me, he was simply my loving grandfather. He called me “Blue Diamond” because blue diamonds were among the rarest in the world. He told me that to him, I was just as rare and special. Recently, my father gifted me a rare natural blue diamond in his memory. I keep it loose, and whenever I hold it, I don’t see a diamond. I see my Dadosa. That is what makes natural diamonds so special. They are more than gifts. They become memories, heirlooms and pieces of the people we love, passed from one generation to the next. My blue diamond is rare. But the man it reminds me of was infinitely rarer. To the best grandpa in the universe. ❤️ Thank you, Rapaport, Rapaport Magazine, Rapaport Trade, and Rapaport India for allowing me to share the story of the best grandpa and his grandson. Dan Mano shared thisAI isn’t just changing how we work. It’s forcing companies to rethink how they create and capture value. Next week, I’ll be in Miami for the Digiday Publishing Summit, where leaders from across the media industry will be discussing how AI is reshaping content, distribution, revenue and the relationship between businesses and their audiences. I’m particularly interested in how established companies are adapting their business models while continuing to innovate in a rapidly changing environment. These conversations extend far beyond publishing. Every industry is facing its own version of this transformation, including ours. Looking forward to exchanging ideas and bringing new perspectives back to Rapaport.

Dan Mano shared thisIf you want people to listen, stop reading from a script. אם את רוצה שיקשיבו, אל תקראי מדף My daughter started school last week, and at the opening ceremony, her new principal gave a speech to a few hundred children and parents. He was reading from a piece of paper, but the kids were talking, laughing, or throwing things, and even most of the parents had stopped paying attention. Later, he spoke again for about 20 seconds, this time without the paper. The difference was immediate. He was more natural, more engaging and more connected to the room. It made me think about my own experience. Since joining Rapaport, I’ve been speaking in front of large audiences much more often. At my first JCK keynote, I relied on a written speech. The next time, a teleprompter. When I spoke at IIJS recently, I decided to use neither. I knew what I wanted to say, and I trusted myself to communicate it. The response afterward confirmed it. I felt much more engagement from the audience in the room, and afterward I received emails from people responding to what I had said. It wasn’t perfect, but it was much more effective. Leadership requires preparation, but communication requires connection. Sometimes the best thing you can do is know your message, put down the script and speak to the people in front of you.

Dan Mano liked thisDan Mano liked thisThe diamond market has reached a critical inflexion point, as CNBC's latest feature on the rapid fall in diamond prices makes clear. On the lab-grown side, the category runs on an interconnected loop between three nations. China grows most of the world's gem-quality rough, India polishes the overwhelming majority of it, and the US anchors demand. Together, they carried lab-grown into the mainstream, and together they crushed its wholesale value. Overcapacity in China and rapid reactor expansion in India drove wholesale prices down by as much as 90%. US retailers captured the gap between collapsing wholesale costs and stickier shop prices, and consumers followed. Lab-grown centre stones featured in 61% of engagement rings bought by US couples married in 2025. Chinese growers work on thin margins, Indian manufacturers absorb the pressure at polishing, and US retail margins keep the shopfront buoyant. Each link depends on the other two. The debate keeps returning to one argument: let consumers decide. I agree. Consumers are savvy, and markets always find their own equilibrium. Resisting that is futile. Only two years ago, parts of the trade were forecasting that lab-grown bridal demand would collapse in 2025. Consumers decided otherwise. Both natural and lab-grown are now finding their level, but they do not carry the shock equally. Lab-grown production has far more room to adjust, although failures across the sector show it is not immune. Natural producers carry fixed assets, finite geology, employment obligations, and revenues that producer nations depend on. That adjustment cannot stop at the mine gate. It is not credible to ask miners, workers, and producing countries to absorb the pain while the overheads of the wider trade remain beyond scrutiny. Positioning natural diamonds for the top of the market is a legitimate strategy. It is not a substitute for clarity. Letting consumers decide only works if they know exactly what they are choosing between. As I argued in my latest piece for Jewellery Outlook (https://lnkd.in/dNvDFkqN), distinct categories only function when consumers hear the same language everywhere. The trade cannot afford to stay gridlocked on terminology. Whether consensus lands on "lab-grown", "synthetic", or an agreed alternative, global trade bodies must unite around a single international standard. Beyond unified labelling, natural and lab-grown need separate value narratives. One is built on rarity, provenance, and its contribution to producer nations. The other is built on accessibility, design, and innovation. Clear, distinct propositions protect consumer confidence and give both markets a sustainable future. I believe the next chapter of entertainment will be shaped not only by scale, but by the ability to connect commercially compelling stories with identifiable audiences, disciplined capital, experienced execution, and credible pathways to market. That is the ecosystem Spinnaker is working to help build.

I am excited to announce that Shine Capital has led AudioShake’s $14M Series A. Our investment represents the culmination of two years of searching for a company that will define the next generation of audio. Since 2023, we have been asking ourselves the question, "What technology will be used pervasively across the totality of the audio landscape?" Then we met Jessica Powell and Luke Miner, founders of AudioShake. AudioShake makes a suite of AI-powered tools for processing audio that include stem-splitting, voice isolation, speaker separation, and more. These primitives are critical infrastructure for almost any task involving audio, as evidenced by the breadth of use cases that the company serves. The Walt Disney Company and Downtown Music use AudioShake to make tracks available for sync licensing. Film studios and post-production houses use AudioShake to clean up sound from microphones to prevent re-recordings and manual audio engineering. Sports leagues and broadcasters use AudioShake to separate stadium noise from commentary to enable clean captioning and crisper audio. And Big Tech and frontier labs use AudioShake to prepare their audio data for multimodal AI training. We believe that audio will be the most important medium in the age of AI, defined by explosive growth across three categories that are even better with AudioShake: 1) Audio-as-AI-Interface: For the first time, people can perform complex compute operations using their voice. Conversing with AI will propel voice assistant usage well beyond its current ~50% adoption. 2) Explosion of Content: The rate at which user-generated content is made continues to accelerate, which will be further amplified by the possibility of AI-generated content. Audio is a superset of video — nearly every video uses sound to convey meaning, message, or emotion. 3) Voice Agents for Business: More than $100B of phone labor is performed annually in the United States. While some of it sits in call centers, most of it is fractional work. Businesses across finance, healthcare, and beyond have rapidly adopted phone agents. We are fortunate to partner with Jessica Powell and Luke Miner, passionate entrepreneurs and audiophiles dedicated to making audio as easy to work with as images or text. Audio contains vast amounts of information and creative possibility, and AudioShake will help unlock it. Thank you to our friends at Indicator Ventures for connecting us to Jessica. We are thrilled to support the AudioShake team with them, alongside Origin Ventures, Thomson Reuters, Precursor Ventures and Background Capital.

JYP's MD strategy also includes expanding concert MD businesses and IP derivative products, and JYP is also focusing on profitability improvement. Following large-scale world tours by Stray Kids and TWICE, we estimate JYP's MD revenue to rise to 18%/28% YoY in 2025/26E. JYP is also leveraging its IPs through collaborations with other industries (e.g., Stray Kids' SKZOO (character IP) and tamagotchi collaboration, TWICE's collaboration with Sanrio, and Stray Kids-Bathing Ape collaboration). The company also tries to enhance efficiency and profitability of MD businesses, as it reduces large-sized pop-up stores, but focus on internalizing its business with its platform, FANS SHOP.

But $268M in realized proceeds from a $7M vehicle is a result most billion-dollar funds will never match. A $1B megafund would need to return $38 billion in cash to hit the same multiple. The math makes it nearly impossible. Then we asked Gia the harder question: 𝘞𝘩𝘺 did this fund outperform everyone else? The patterns were clear. Disciplined fund size under $15M.
