Barkley’s was founded in 2017 in Modesto, CA with one simple belief, our dogs are family, and they deserve food made with the same care and quality as our own. After I was released by the Chicago White Sox, I had to figure out what a “real job” looked like outside of baseball. I went back to what I grew up in, our family meat packing company. For over 30 years, my family has been in the meat packing industry, and I jumped in headfirst, learning every part of the business from the ground up, production, procurement, logistics, and sales. Before this idea ever became Barkley’s, I had an eye-opening moment. I saw a SINGLE raw frozen marrow bone selling for $10.99. Coming from the meat industry, that immediately stood out to me....We’ve been sourcing these same raw materials for decades from farmers all across the US. We know where they come from, how they’re handled, and what true quality looks like. Our meat business specializes in “offal” items such as pig feet, beef liver, beef tripe, chicken gizzards, marrow bones etc. The parts often overlooked or aren't "sexy" , but packed with nutrition. And because we’ve been buying these raw materials for over 30 years, we also know where corners get cut. That’s something we refuse to do. We don’t compromise on raw materials ever. That realization sparked a question, Why aren’t dogs getting better food & treats made from real ingredients? That question became Barkley’s. What started with marrow bones and a family meat operation has grown into something much bigger. Today, Barkley’s is sold in over 6,000 retail doors nationwide, and we continue to push the envelope with new innovation. In late 2025, we opened our own production facility in Le Mars, Iowa, laying the groundwork for the next phase of growth. We’ve also just launched our online food subscription, making it easier for pet parents to feed their dogs real food consistently. We’ve grown, but the mission hasn’t changed. Real ingredients. No fillers. No seed oils. Nothing artificial. And zero compromises. More to come. this is just the beginning. 🐾 Barkley's Bag
