Anna Gorodetsky shared thisThis one feels especially personal. I was delighted to be quoted in a recent Legaltech News article about Stanford Law School’s new Legal Engineering Academy and the transformation taking place across the legal profession as AI changes how legal work gets done. I’m also honored to be part of the Academy’s Founding Advisory Board, helping shape the program and bringing my perspective on how AI is changing legal roles, skills and hiring. I spend a lot of my time talking to lawyers and legal leaders about how AI is changing their jobs, so it has been fascinating to watch all of this unfold in real time. There is so much experimentation happening right now—and so much still to figure out. And then there is the personal side of Stanford for me. 😊 These are my two sons, Jacob, a sophomore, and Ari, a freshman, who are both at Stanford this year. I am so excited that they get to spend these formative years in the heart of so much innovation, surrounded by people who are thinking about—and building—what comes next. As much as I hope they learn, explore, take risks and embrace all of the opportunities around them, my biggest hope is that they hold onto something they already have: their idealism and desire to do things that matter. I hope they remain mission-driven, curious and optimistic about their ability to make a difference. Article: https://lnkd.in/eK-phNJn #LegalInnovation #ArtificialIntelligence #LegalCareers #Stanford

Anna Gorodetsky shared thisSome really interesting findings in MLA and Allvue’s new report on legal and compliance compensation in alternative asset management. One stat that jumped out at me: only 44% of respondents say their firms clearly explain how carry or long-term incentives are determined. As comp gets more complex, transparency matters — especially when you’re trying to attract and keep great people. Worth a read!Anna Gorodetsky shared thisLegal and compliance leaders aren’t just protecting value anymore. They’re helping create it. New research from Major, Lindsey & Africa and Allvue Systems examines what it takes to attract and retain these leaders at alternative asset managers. Based on responses from 157 General Counsel, Chief Legal Officers, and Chief Compliance Officers, the 2026 Alternatives Legal & Compliance Compensation Report finds: • More than half receive some form of long-term incentive • Median GC/CLO total cash compensation is approximately $1 million • Compensation rises significantly as firm AUM increases • Only 44% say their firm clearly explains how carry or long-term incentive allocations are determined Compensation is becoming more complex. The findings show why structure, transparency, and communication matter. Anna Gorodetsky shared thisAlways a pleasure talking with Irene Liu — one of the most thoughtful voices on AI and the legal profession. We covered what AI is changing in legal hiring, what employers are looking for, and why judgment, business acumen and trust still matter enormously. Thanks for having me, Irene! #ArtificialIntelligence #LegalCareers #LegalTechAnna Gorodetsky shared thisWhat’s happening with legal hiring and compensation 💰 in the age of AI? Are AI skills starting to command a premium? 👀 On today’s new episode of AI Sidebar, I talk with Anna Gorodetsky, Partner at Major, Lindsey & Africa, about what she’s seeing firsthand in the market, including new AI-focused roles, what employers increasingly expect, and how lawyers can stay competitive. 🤖📈 One clear takeaway: practical AI experience matters more than ever. Anna Gorodetsky shared thisAI’s energy challenge is also a legal leadership challenge. As data center demand accelerates, energy companies need legal teams that can do far more than manage compliance. The strongest legal leaders will help shape infrastructure investment, energy sourcing, regulatory strategy and responsible growth. The question is no longer simply whether the power is available. It is whether the legal function is ready to help the business scale for the AI economy. #AIInfrastructure #DataCenters #Energy #LegalLeadership #InHouseLegal #MLAGlobalAnna Gorodetsky shared thisAs part of our ongoing series exploring the industries driving AI data center growth, we're taking a closer look at the energy sector. AI data center growth is putting unprecedented pressure on energy infrastructure. For utilities, power providers, and energy companies, that growth is pushing legal teams into a new role. Legal is no longer just managing regulatory compliance. Teams are being asked to provide strategic oversight across complex infrastructure investments, energy sourcing decisions, environmental considerations, and evolving regulatory frameworks. At this stage, the question is not how much power companies can generate. It is whether the legal function is built to help the business scale with the demands of the AI economy. https://hubs.la/Q04qTlGS0 Looking for legal, privacy or compliance talent? Anna Gorodetsky shared thisHalf marathon: 1:55 — an improvement over last year, although my decade-younger self still has me beat. There will always be someone faster. The trick, I think, is to stop looking sideways, run your own race, and remember that you also want to feel good when you actually get to the finish line. Going faster isn’t necessarily better if you’re miserable when you arrive. Maybe that’s why the idea of “running your own race” resonates with me in executive legal search, too. There is always pressure to move faster, but finding the right pace, sticking with it and feeling good when the search is completed usually matters more. And the best part of the finish had nothing to do with my time: seeing my two sons there cheering me on, with food and water in hand. The dim sum disappeared almost immediately — apparently I had been too busy running to realize how hungry I was. Hard to imagine a better way to cross a finish line. #HalfMarathon #RunYourOwnRace #ExecutiveSearch

Anna Gorodetsky shared thisWhat does “market” compensation really mean for in-house legal talent in 2026? Major, Lindsey & Africa’s new 2026 In-House Counsel Compensation Report analyzes 641 accepted offers for U.S.-based placements made in 2024 and 2025. The data offers important takeaways for both companies designing compensation packages and legal leaders evaluating their next opportunity: • Structure may matter as much as level. Senior packages are increasingly weighted toward bonuses, equity and other incentives—not just fixed cash. For employers, that creates more flexibility. For candidates, it requires a closer look at risk, timing and potential upside. • “Market” is a range, especially at the top. GC/CLO compensation varies widely based on company size, ownership, scope, complexity and individual experience. A single benchmark rarely tells the full story. • Public companies continue to pay a meaningful cash premium. At the GC/CLO level, public companies offered median base salaries approximately 20% higher and median bonuses nearly twice those of private companies. The gap narrows at lower levels. • Equity is becoming essential to a competitive package. 63% of GC/CLO placements received equity or long-term incentives, rising to 75% among public-company placements. Employers that cannot lead on cash may still compete effectively through meaningful upside. • Company scale is a major compensation driver. GC/CLO pay tends to rise in distinct steps as revenue crosses approximately $1 billion, $5 billion and $15 billion. Compensation strategy should reflect the size and complexity of the enterprise—not title alone. • First-time GC/CLOs represent a distinct market. They typically receive somewhat less cash and a higher equity mix than experienced GC/CLOs. For companies, this can create an opportunity to attract high-potential talent. For candidates, the tradeoff is often immediate cash versus title, scope and long-term upside. My biggest takeaway: senior legal compensation is less about identifying a single “market” number and more about designing the right alignment among enterprise complexity, executive expectations, performance incentives and long-term value creation. For the legal leaders and corporate decision-makers in my network: What matters most in building or evaluating a senior legal compensation package today—cash certainty, equity upside, performance incentives, title or scope? #GeneralCounsel #ChiefLegalOfficer #InHouseCounsel #LegalLeadership #ExecutiveCompensation

Anna Gorodetsky shared thisI had the absolute joy of attending the inaugural event of the Stanford Horological Society, founded by my son, Jacob Bushler, a freshman at Stanford. And honestly, it was one of those pinch-me moments. Jacob somehow got an extraordinary group of people in the same room — scientists, engineers, professors, collectors, watch experts, business leaders, students and friends — all discussing timekeeping from completely different angles. Atomic clocks. GPS. AI. Mechanical watches. Fine craftsmanship. History. Physics. Memory. Meaning. At one point, the audience was asked to define the word “time” without using the word itself. Very few could. Which, for a room full of brilliant people, was both hilarious and humbling. It struck me that this is exactly what makes a conversation powerful: when people who see the world very differently come together around a question big enough that no single discipline can answer it alone. As a lawyer and legal recruiter, I spend a lot of time thinking about how important perspective is — how the best leaders and teams are often the ones who can see around corners, connect different dots, and listen to people who approach the same issue from a completely different starting point. That was the magic of this evening. It was not just about watches. It was about time as science, technology, art, business, philosophy, history, and human experience. I am so grateful to the friends, family, clients, candidates, and colleagues from my own network who came to support Jacob and the Stanford Horological Society. It meant the world to both of us. Mostly, I am just a very proud mom. Jacob had a vision for creating a community around something he loves, and he made it happen in a way that was thoughtful, substantive, and truly unique. Not bad for a freshman. And yes, I am clearly biased. Congratulations, Jacob! I cannot wait to see what the Stanford Horological Society does next. #Stanford #Horology #Innovation #Engineering #ProudMom

Anna Gorodetsky shared thisI really enjoyed this beautiful Saturday in Sonoma with an inspiring group of legal leaders. Thank you, Minh, Jennifer, Olga, Eugenia, Sasha, Jobe, Judy Yuan, Vanina, Crissy, Alexandra, Anna Maria, Dana, Sandra, and others, for joining us! Thank you to the incredible Carole Coplan for welcoming us to Coplan Vineyards and sharing not only the wines and olive oil she produces, but also the story behind this remarkable passion project. We gathered with a terrific group of legal leaders to taste, connect, and talk about something that can be hard to protect in demanding careers: making time for passions outside of work. I am so grateful to everyone who made the trip, shared so openly, and brought such great energy to the day. It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces and create space for conversation, perspective, and a little Sonoma sunshine. #GeneralCounsel #LegalLeadership #InHouseCounsel #PassionProjects #Sonoma #Leadership #Community

Anna Gorodetsky shared thisI spend my days helping lawyers think about career timing. My son Jacob Bushler, a freshman at Stanford, has decided to tackle time itself. He’s founded the Stanford Horological Society and is hosting its inaugural event. If you have any interest in timekeeping, watches, physics, engineering, or simply how something so fundamental quietly runs the modern world, this will be a fascinating evening. Think: atomic clocks, GPS, high horology, and the people building what comes next. Anna Gorodetsky liked thisAnna Gorodetsky liked thisLucky me! Spent yesterday morning guest lecturing in Esther Barron’s entrepreneurship law course at the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law. I got 100 minutes to talk about my career, about SHINE Technologies, about Pacaso, about law firms, about in-house work, about #startups, about venture capital, about founders, about investors, about #innovation - with plenty of war stories both good and bad. We covered a lot of ground! And a quick word about Esther. She and I have become great friends over the last decade+, and I just can’t say enough good things about her. She’s an absolute SME (that’s her new casebook I am holding - talk about great merch!). She’s dedicated to education and to her students. And she’s just a brilliant and wonderful person. When my practice started to grow into #Chicago those many years ago, she was terrifically supportive and helpful, with nothing in it for her. She’s just that kind of person. Plus she let me hang out for afternoon calls in an office with that view of Lake Michigan! She’s the best. #DWProf

Anna Gorodetsky liked thisAnna Gorodetsky liked thisTwo days. One shared focus: helping legal leaders navigate what's next. Our In-House Counsel Recruiting team recently came this week in Atlanta to exchange insights, strengthen collaboration, and explore the trends shaping the future of legal leadership, from AI data centers to life sciences, alternative assets, and the evolving role of today's General Counsel. One theme stood out: organizations need more than talent acquisition partners. They need trusted advisors who can anticipate change, identify leadership talent, and help build teams for the future. The conversations sparked fresh thinking that we'll carry into our work with clients every day. #MLAGlobal #LegalLeadership #ExecutiveSearch #GeneralCounsel #LegalRecruiting

Anna Gorodetsky liked thisMadrona captured the central tension at its annual CEO Summit perfectly: It's never been a more exciting--and challenging--time to start a company. Yesterday, I had the opportunity to spend the day with more than 45 CEOs and a terrific group of speakers near Seattle. The room included a fascinating mix of AI-native companies and companies moving quickly to adopt AI. I loved hearing how these leaders are thinking about the opportunities ahead, the challenges they see, and the ways AI may reshape everything from product development to how customers discover and buy products. I also joined Madrona General Counsel Joanna Lin Black for a conversation about “The Legal Decisions Every AI Founder Needs to Get Right.” We talked about how agentic AI shifts risk from what a model says to what a product can do, and where legal can be most valuable in a hypergrowth environment--partnering early to help shape products, commercial relationships, and durable growth strategies. I also offered some spicy takes on terms of service as a product blueprint (not just legalese), control of customer relationships, why companies should think early about sovereignty over their AI stack, whether the broader ecosystem is ready for agents, and one practical rule: Don’t be the slowest zebra. Thank you to Karan Mehandru, Joanna, and the entire Madrona team for bringing together such a thoughtful and candid group. When the answers keep changing, curiosity and a prepared mind really do become strategic advantages.Anna Gorodetsky liked thisIt's never been a better time to start a company. It's also never been a harder time to start a company. Among the 45+ CEOs present at our annual CEO summit, this paradox was a recurring topic. Many dimensions of starting a company remain evergreen, like the importance of maintaining a laser focus on your ICP. But others are completely changed, like how a customer's agent might autonomously pick a product without a sales team ever having a chance to meet. Underneath all of these disruptions and opportunities, the speakers and guests emphasized the value of a prepared mind, and the curiosity to keep asking the right questions as the answers keep changing. A spirit of exploration and adaptability has never been more strategic for leading a company. And that's exactly why we have run this CEO summit for decades: to cultivate the qualities needed to win today and build durable companies that persist well into the future. We thank our CEOs and the speakers in attendance for yet another dynamic and meaningful Summit!

For a long time, I didn't think I could call myself a real artist. Since my layoff, I've been painting full-time while looking for my next design role, and this year, for the first time, I have my own studio. I'm opening it to the public during SF Open Studios. I paint under the name Natalie Ora. My work started with portraits, botanicals, and still lifes, and over time moved into abstraction as a way to explore emotion and the inner world. At its core, my practice is a reminder that we are enough, and that creativity belongs to everyone. Amazed that people could job stress and job strategize, in a race. More fun were the older gentleman and the younger woman who struck up a conversation, took a selfie, exchanged phone numbers, and texted the selfie, all while running. Friday feels and the last day of October. There’s been plenty happening across the legal and business landscape over the past few weeks. AI and regulation: The Federal Government confirmed it won’t allow tech companies to freely train AI on creative content, reinforcing Australia’s commitment to copyright protection and responsible innovation. Job cuts: Several major banks have announced significant restructures, with thousands of roles impacted as institutions respond to margin pressures and rising costs. Economic shifts: Analysts point to deeper structural challenges across the financial services sector and slower growth ahead. Flexible resourcing: Through all of this, we’re seeing more organisations choose agile legal models - short-term secondees, project-based lawyers and flexible teams - to manage change and maintain momentum. At Elevate Flexible Legal Resourcing, we see this first-hand. Demand is shifting, but opportunity remains strong for those who can flex with it. Our latest Elevate Newsletter covers these themes and more, including: Liam Brown on the surge in law firm investment Insights into GenAI adoption and what it means for in-house teams How innovation and leadership are reshaping modern legal services A worthwhile weekend read if you’re keeping an eye on what’s next for our profession. https://lnkd.in/gAa3UbWq #LegalIndustry #AIRegulation #LegalCareers #FlexibleResourcing #FutureOfWork #ElevateFlex #FridayFeels
