Alastair Simpson shared thisExcited to welcome Josh Adler to the QuickBooks Design Team as Senior Staff Product Designer! Josh joins us from Pinterest, where he led design across some of the company’s most impactful growth and social experience initiatives - from activation and retention strategy to large-scale collaboration and engagement systems used by millions. His work consistently brought together strong product vision, thoughtful craft, and a deep understanding of how to create experiences people genuinely connect with. Looking forward to building with him, welcome Josh! #designhiring #design

Alastair Simpson shared thisExcited to welcome NORAH PARK to our Experience Architecture team under Shailesh Shilwant! Norah will be focused on the future of the QuickBooks ecosystem. A theme that came through clearly in her interviews: you’ll never get just one answer from her. She explores problems broadly and comes back with fully realized options - thoughtful interactions, carefully considered details and exceptional craft. Looking forward to seeing her work come to life here! #designhiring

Alastair Simpson shared thisDesign systems at scale aren’t just UI kits. They span technical architecture, brand expression, and the cultural norms of a design org. That work gets especially interesting when you’re supporting 4 distinct brands like we are at Intuit. Earlier this week we kicked off a new chapter of systems work, partnering with some of the best in the field- Ben Callahan, Brad Frost, Yesenia Perez-Cruz, and Ian Frost. Excited to learn from this crew and continue the important work ahead. #designsystems, #design Intuit folks pictured, the wonderful; Peter Duyan, Sally Croom, Cap Watkins, and Jules Forrest.

Alastair Simpson shared thisReally excited to welcome Jennifer Shin as an Executive Business Partner on QuickBooks Design. I had the opportunity to work with Jen for many years at Dropbox, where she partnered closely with both Brand and Product Design teams. She has a strong instinct for creating the conditions that allow great design to happen - not just in the work itself, but in how teams are supported and decisions get made. Jen is joining Daniella Mogannam and Sally Croom (both of whom I've also worked with for many years) and who have been in the QuickBooks Design org since last year. Together they share a point of view that puts intentionality and craft at the center of how teams run. Taste isn’t just expressed in the output - it’s present in the systems, judgment, and care behind the scenes. Excited for what this crew will continue to shape together.

Alastair Simpson shared thisI’m really excited to welcome Cap Watkins on his first day at Intuit, joining us as Design Director leading our Platform team spanning Design Systems, AI Platforms, Content Systems and Shared-Experiences (among other things!). I've admired Cap's work at incredible brands for many years and am super excited to get the opportunity to work and learn from him at Intuit. When Cap and I first met to talk about the role I said something along the lines of: "We have a lot of work to do". Cap didn’t flinch. In fact I think he said something like "Awesome." He leaned in, asked great questions, delved into our products, and clearly saw the opportunity in the complexity. Cap brings a thoughtful, high-agency approach to leadership, and a genuine curiosity about how teams, systems, and platforms come together to do their best work. Please join me in welcoming Cap to Intuit - incredibly excited for this next chapter and what we’ll build together. #designleadership #design

Alastair Simpson shared thisAlways amazed to see what the kids involved with Project Invent make. If you want to learn more about this amazing non-profit or have them involved with your kids school, reach out to Jax Chaudhry or Autumn Hamra Kaji, CFRE #design #nonprofitAlastair Simpson shared thisAll Andrew wanted was to walk his dog again. Ten 8th graders from Markham Woods Middle School in Orlando, FL were inspired to build a device to support Andrew’s dream! These Project Invent students met their Community Partner, Andrew, a 73 year old retired construction worker living with a neurological condition that makes walking unpredictable and exhausting. His dream was simple yet profound: “I just wanna walk my dog and take short hikes again.” Those words changed everything. Driven by empathy, the students created TrueNorth, a neural headset that reads brain signals and helps stimulate leg movement, giving people like Andrew the chance to move freely again. Their journey was far from easy. When early code failed, they didn’t give up, they tested, adapted, and persevered until TrueNorth became a working prototype. By spring they earned the Moonshot Award at Demo Day San Diego for the most novel idea! “Andrew’s dream isn’t just about distance—it’s about freedom.” — Team TrueNorth These young inventors turned one man’s hope into a movement for change. Their work embodies what Project Invent stands for: empowering youth to design empathy, creativity, and courage, to see beyond what is and imagine what could be. With your support, we can bring this transformative experience to even more schools across the country! Your donation helps students turn compassion into innovation, and innovation into impact. Alastair Simpson reacted on thisAlastair Simpson reacted on thisAfter taking some time to have fun with family and friends and think carefully about what I wanted to do next, I recently joined Delinea as CFO — and I feel great about where I landed. What drew me to Delinea was a combination of the people, the business, and what I think is a particularly interesting time in the market. Companies need to protect themselves against new AI-driven threats while also figuring out how to adopt AI quickly and securely. Delinea helps solve both challenges. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know Art Gilliland and the Delinea team over the past few months, and I’m looking forward to building alongside them. I’m grateful to Art and TPG for the opportunity and excited to get to work!

This week, I had the joy of bringing our Executive Recruiting team together in New York. We spent half our time looking ahead, focused on business planning, AI innovation, and thinking about how we continue to evolve our work. And the other half? Going analog. Screens shut, walking the High Line, sharing some laughs, and spending time together as a team. Grateful for this crew and everything we’re building together! The journey as a founder is for sure an emotional one, at least for me. I was overwhelmed with gratitude to be together with the group of people who were the first believers in me and Evantic. I was also thankful to have one of our star founders join us Lin Qiao of Fireworks AI and some of our amazing Legends on stage and in the audience. Laura Modiano Ryan Mac Ban Jorge Bestard Matthew O'Donohoe Reece Chowdhry Our ambition is to build one of the best performing venture platforms in the world. We have the super power of a thriving community of incredible founders, builders and investors at our core who are our Legends. In a ruthlessly competitive industry we emphasize collaboration and work to be the partner that adds so much value that every founder and investor wants to have us along the journey with them. We try to embody a culture of San Francisco hustle and London swagger. I’m very grateful for all the help and warm reception in year one. Pumped to be working to do even better in year two. Listened to the Lenny Podcast with Ian Silber, Head of Design at OpenAI, on why designers feel so bleh right now. (Cough, job market.) But also that in the obsession with speed, engineers feel 10-100x'ed, and designers feel like they're spinning in circles just trying to understand what their job even is anymore. The problem with the speed obsession is that every project runs on two clocks, and design keeps getting measured on the wrong one. Clock 1: figuring out what's actually broken. Clock 2: building the fix. We often talk about AI’s value in clock 2. Give it a clear brief, it hands you ten polished directions. The misconception is that this is where designers were "slow" and need the boost. Design speed is not a Figma problem. Delete my file right now, with a good design system I'll have it rebuilt in 20 minutes. Clock 1 is what's always taken time. That doesn't get faster because a model can spit out variants. It gets faster when you identify which slow, unglamorous parts of finding the real problem can actually be reinvented with AI: easier queries of performance data, synthesizing research, an accessible repo of known problems, faster benchmarking, rough generated concepts instead of doc drafts, accessibility annotations, swapping in placeholder images, etc. When you talk about speed, be specific about where the time actually goes. Where you'd 10x with real support, and where you wouldn't. Look at the whole design process that creates value, not just the visual output at the end. You can't feel the speed if you're only measuring a fraction of the job. #userresarch #ai #productdesign #aidesign

What if our fixation on role clarity is quietly slowing us down? In The End of Role Clarity, Clay Parker Jones challenges the industrial-era logic of tightly defined responsibilities and argues that in complex, creative environments, adaptability, shared context, and trust outperform rigid job boundaries. For design and product leaders, the provocation is clear: innovation doesn’t emerge from perfectly carved swim lanes, but from teams aligned on outcomes, empowered to flex, and accountable to purpose rather than position. It’s a call to design organizations the way we design great products—loosely coupled, deeply collaborative, and built for change.

Automation is transforming design and engineering, but at what cost? Generative AI and automation tools are pushing tech roles away from classic craft tasks toward strategic thinking and cross-domain connections. Designers have felt this shift for years, as tools simplify pixel pushing, moving designers to focus on higher-level design tasks like defining user problems. Every Product Designer has to be a bit of a Service Designer. Engineers are experiencing a similar evolution. With code automation on the rise, the successful engineers will be those who can translate deep customer insights into effective technology solutions. Is craftsmanship is evolving or disappearing? Do we lose something essential when the craft of design and engineering becomes automated? Or do we simply redefine what craftsmanship means in this new context? Emphasizing empathy, problem-solving, and strategic thinking may be the future of these roles, but we must remain vigilant about retaining the core skills that drive innovation and creativity. #Design #EngineeringExcellence #AutomationImpact

Hey, UX Researchers in my network - please share this role that popped up with Karen Lee at Google - this is wild, and a great opportunity to cut through the hype to better understand the emergent us of new technologies like AI. Note: Karen Lee, it would be awesome if your team could share some of your findings with the rest of the community - there's too much unsubstantiated "hand-waving" hype out there.

The messy middle isn’t chaos. It’s unmanaged risk. Most transformation stalls months after launch for reasons that were visible from the start: ownership gaps, incentive conflicts, untested adoption assumptions. These aren’t surprises. They’re structural patterns. The real failure isn’t friction - it’s failing to surface it before momentum makes it expensive.
