“The success of this system did not just come the day of the inauguration, it accumulates every day that community management keeps the water flowing.” This powerful insight from Board Chair Adrienne Pierce highlights the heart of our mission. Adrienne visited San Antonio, Nicaragua four years after the inauguration. The system was running strong and community management was at the heart of this success Beyond the pipes and pumps, the real foundation is the people who keep these systems running for generations. “Modern technology has both given us a taste for direct communication and filled our feeds with advertising and AI generated content. People are hungry for real voices and genuine connection." Our Engagement Director Mica Miro shares this insight in a new article, Letting Go of the Lens. In this article, Mica and our Asia Program Director, Geoanna Corneby share how Green Empowerment is shifting storytelling power back to local voices. By training community members in Sabah, Malaysia to film, conduct interviews, and direct their own stories, we’re moving beyond traditional media approaches to center authentic voices and local leadership. A huge thank you to Public Interest Registry for supporting and amplifying this pilot project! 👉 Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/ebCqRSZD Public Interest Registry, Tonibung - TObpinai NIngkokoton koBUruon kampuNG, PACOS Trust, Third Rice Culture (TRC) Media Productions. | #CommunityLedStorytelling #LocalLeadership #GlobalDevelopment

Part of accountable storytelling is returning a story to the communities that shared it. This year, Force of Water returned to Uganda and Ecuador, where local leaders hosted screenings and used their experiences to spark conversations with neighboring communities. Today we're launching the next chapter of our Project Journey Series, following the community of Pokolon Paus in Malaysian Borneo, as local residents document their own stories through a community-led storytelling initiative. As Pokolon Paus builds and manages its new solar-hydro hybrid micro-utility alongside local partners, community members are learning filmmaking and storytelling skills to share what this transition means from their own perspectives. Over the coming months, we'll share stories created by the people closest to the work—offering a firsthand look at what community-led storytelling looks like in practice. Reliable healthcare depends on reliable energy, making clean power a vital lifeline for rural communities. In 2025, nearly 50,000 refugees and community members in Northern Uganda relied on the Ayilo and Palorinya health centers, run by Medical Teams International. In 2025, with support from EKOenergy ecolabel we partnered to install new 24-hour solar and storage systems to ensure these families receive reliable care, These systems keep health facility lights on through the night and ensure critical medical equipment never stops running. A clinic solar system. A local business. A built in maintenance fund. At Ayilo 1 Health Centre III, a solar powered canteen is helping answer one of the biggest challenges in healthcare electrification: who pays for maintenance? Monthly rent from the canteen helps fund the solar system's upkeep, while reliable electricity gives the business owner a competitive edge through refrigeration and cold drinks. Our partners are testing this innovative approach. Stay tuned for our upcoming blog post for the full story.
