Last Thursday, we hosted the founders of Mintlify, Braintrust, Browserbase, and Productboard for a panel. In the audience were 100 early stage founders who had just spent the day burning 50 billion tokens at the SF Frontier Hackathon. The simple question for the panel: "In a world where building anything is fast and almost free, what defines what is worth building?" In 2 weeks, the team at Obvious will be back in SF to host our largest event yet and there'll be more bangers like this. Comment if you want an invite! Massive thanks to Han, Ankur, Paul, and Hubert for joining and to everyone who came for the great questions.

People keep asking why I'm building in Chicago. Easy answer. I grew up in Elk Grove Village, home to the biggest industrial park in the country, right next to O'Hare. Most tech founders fly right over it. Thousands of companies across the region are doing 7 to 9 figures with no succession plan and no tech. AI means a small team can now plug in and deliver more value than they've seen in decades. The other half of the Chicago case is the people. I'm an introvert and a recovering bootstrapper. For years I kept my head down and missed the network sitting right in front of me. Now I'm at breakfasts every week with builders and showing up to events that aren't just during tech week. In a world of AI, human connection is the scarce thing.. and Chicago builders actually show up for each other. I sat down with Jon Bell and the Obvious team to get into all of it. The Frontier Builder Series is brought to you by Obvious, Obvious is an applied AI research lab with a focus on autonomous product development. They host free events around the country to help builders achieve the next level. They'll be in Chicago on October 16th. #1 motivations for people attending Obvious events: Experience 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁-𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱 things they've only seen 𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 post about online. I love this because it's 𝘰𝘶𝘳 primary motivation for creating the events and informs a lot of the decisions we make when organizing them. For instance, we make token usage for the day unlimited and free. We do this so that builders can test how ambitious they can be when unconstrained by cost concerns. Most people haven't experienced what it's like to not have to worry about plan usage limits, API rate limits, or internal spend controls. At Obvious , we want you to feel like you can fly. So we not only build a product that gives you massive leverage for your time and attention, we also remove any concern about cost so you can just build and experience this new way of working.

I work on the harness, and I want to take you along on that journey: what we’re building, what we’re changing, and what we’re still figuring out.

  • Meet the panelists joining us tomorrow at Frontier Build SF. • Hubert Palan, Founder & CEO @ Productboard. His turned a lifelong obsession with building the best products into a unicorn platform trusted by leading product teams. Now he's leading the charge on how AI will change the way products get made. • Paul Klein IV, Founder & CEO @ Browserbase. He built around one idea: every AI agent needs a web browser. Fresh off an $80M Series B, Braintrust has become the go-to for teams that treat evals as seriously as code. • Jon Bell, Co-Founder & CPO @ Obvious. After shaping product at Netflix and Mailchimp, he's driving the future of building on the frontier at Obvious.
