All at Ipswich Sppedway were deeply saddened to hear that Ruby Woods ('Mum Witch') passed away on Sunday 6th December, aged 94. We would like to convey our deepest condolences to her family & friends.

Ruby had followed the Ipswich Witches since the early 50s and is remembered by many Ipswich team members over the years for her regular visits to the pits with knitted mascots, bags of sweets, etc. for her boys as she called them. Current promoter, John Louis, also remembers how Ruby used to clean his leathers for him when he was riding for the team during the 1970s. "Ruby would take all my gear home and return it the next day, absolutely spotless. She did this for every meeting, home & away, without fail which often required several visits in a week if I had a busy schedule. I was extremely grateful for all her efforts and it was great to see her enjoying her speedway well past an age when many people would have opted for a quieter evening. It's very sad to lose one of our most devoted fans - R.I.P. Ruby".
