Beyond Cartoons and Crosswords
Submitted by crossover on 2007, November 12 - 11:25am.There is a friend who jokes wrily about how these days he reads the television and watches the newspaper. The daily rag offers so little as information that you slip quickly to the cartoons the crossword, while you sit glued to the screen reading the ticker tape of news that runs while the news caster drones on.
We have had a what some difficult challenge at Crossover of sticking to our creed, of the journal being a platform for individuals, while having to ensure that what we put out in every edition engages your attention, dear reader, just as much as it provokes you to step out of your house or office to do something that can [a] make you feel better as a responsible citizen and [b] bring a change thus they will want to be inspired by.
If you read the imprint line of this edition, you will see that Anuradha Eswar has come aboard as Associate Editor. Here is a lady full of pep and energy, ill concealed in a demeanour that is sober and thoughtful. She groomed as an architect, even practiced the profession in the mid-90’s, before realizing that she has much more to learn herself. She has been evolving and absorbing ideas and directions that many people across the world have been working on. Her being incredibly net-savvy has helped her communicate with people in every time zone and latitude.
If there is a slight shift in the character of Crossover that is now in your hands, blame it on her! But, seriously, she promises to offer interesting, insightful and engaging editorial fare in the editions ahead. The Crossword that is presented on page-29 is a remarkable piece of work by a very humble sexagenarian, Dr. P. Desikan, who has devised this ‘green’ crossword. Try it out – it is a cryptic, and more challenging than the easier classic version.
Happy reading and season’s greetings.
