- The singular "they" is a standard part of English. As for the images, images are meant to complement the text and not be decorative. It would be helpful if you could explain how the image you switched improved understanding or was of generally better quality with the same improvement on understanding. As for the second image, it squished the text between itself and the existing picture which is generally something the Manual of Style suggests to avoid. CMD (talk) 04:06, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- If you guys don't mind, I indented all your comments for better viewing. :D Anyway, Anppasew I'm interested in seeing this article receive the Good Article badge in the near future. My reasoning for the removals isn't about rejecting contributions but about ensuring that illustrations and any visual objects directly support reader understanding and remain consistent with layout guidance in the Manual of Style.
- You can see yourself that the article is already quite image-dense, so some trimming is sometimes necessary to avoid layout congestion and to keep visuals focused on explanatory value rather than decoration. Like I said, the longer-term aim is to move the article toward Good Article quality, where image relevance, placement, and restraint are part of the review criteria.
- Hope this clears things up. AdaCiccone (talk) 01:53, 23 February 2026 (UTC)

- To answer your question, I've looked through the page history (both article and talk) and found no discussions as to why the WP:ENGVAR changed to British variety. It once used the American variety (and later mixed use of US-British) but one editor named Muffin Wizard changed it in 2015. Later editors have kept the present British variety since then. Recommendation to modify first sentence
[edit]The first sentence of this article should be updated to describe Indonesia as "an Archipelagic state" to bring it in line with other island/archipelagic countries, such as Japan, thePhilippines, and New Zealand. Brettopia (talk) 02:50, 9 April 2026 (UTC)
- IMO, lede already cover that point. The second sentence explicitly states that Indonesia is the world's largest archipelagic state, so repeating the term in the first and second sentence would be make unnecessary redundant word. Ckfasdf (talk) 03:45, 9 April 2026 (UTC)

- Capital of Indonesia is a bit sketchy on this question, but the project to relocate the capital seems to be falling behind schedule despite being a priority of the Prabowo administration. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 19:47, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
Jakarta will retain the status, functions, and role of the national capital until a presidential decree formally transfers the capital to Nusantara.
I've added this to the Administrative divisions section, along with the appropriate source referring to the Constitutional Court. I believe this answers your question. AdaCiccone (talk) 07:35, 16 July 2026 (UTC)- The law regarding the moving of the capital hasn't been signed by the president. And adding to that, some important building like parliament building & The Supreme Court building and other judicial branches have not yet been completed too. Additional officeholders at infobox
[edit]My removal for the names of the House Speaker, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court is about infobox discipline, and summary needs of this particular article.
- MOS:INFOBOX says that an infobox should summarize key facts that appear in the article. These names and additional officeholders aren't in the body. If you read the Government and politics section, it is primarily about the structure of the executive, legislature, and judiciary.
- In this way, the infobox is more concise. At the same time, this preserves key political information about the country, that it is a unitary presidential republic, and that the President and Vice President are the country's principal national executive offices.
- Comparisons with other country articles can be helpful yes, but that alone shouldn't decide the issue. I'm of the opinion that each article ultimately should stand on its own merits. For this particular article, the infobox content should be based on this article's own summary needs.
TL;DR, infobox shouldn't include those officeholder details when the body doesn't treat them as an article content. AdaCiccone (talk) 04:34, 16 June 2026 (UTC)
- Sorry, in the Trias Politica of Power (specially Presidential system), there must be a Legislative, Executive, and Judicial branch. And each country must show important figures in each of these officials. Look at the countries of Brazil, USA, Turkey, all of which are complete according to the trias politica, not necessarily just the executive branch. Baqotun0023 (talk) 09:18, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
- Maybe, you can to read WP:IMPARTIAL first before to remove of this infobox. Baqotun0023 (talk) 09:23, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
- I don't think WP:IMPARTIAL applies here. That's more about using impartial tone when presenting disputes and viewpoints. Nowhere does it say that it requires an infobox to allot rows equally among the executive, legislative, and judicial branches.
- The infobox already identifies the legislature and its chambers, while the Government and politics subsection lays out the executive, legislature, and judiciary. The question is whether the names of several current presiding officers are key summary facts about Indonesia.
- MOS:INFOBOX says that an infobox should summarize key facts in the article, exclude unnecessary content, and remain concise. It also says that which parts of an infobox are used is determined by consensus at each individual article. Those country articles you mentioned may be useful comparisons, but the more relevant question is whether these officeholder names serve the summary needs of this article.
- Listing an institution is different from listing officeholders. Removing the House Speaker and the chief justices doesn't remove nor diminish the legislative and judicial branches. It'd leave the institutional structure to the body and linked articles. My concern remains that these names aren't treated as a content in the article. Adding them therefore goes beyond what this infobox needs to summarize.
- Maybe one idea to consider is to add those names instead to the Government and politics subsection so they can remain in the infobox. I'd disagree to that. That section right now aligns well with WP:SUMMARYSTYLE; it summarizes the country's political system and its principal institutions. More specific and changeable details I think should be in the sub-articles instead. The names could of course be mentioned if an individual officeholder is important to understanding a major political development, but listing the current holders just to mirror the infobox would just add detail without improving the summary. The body should determine what the infobox summarizes, not the other way around. AdaCiccone (talk) 10:20, 24 June 2026 (UTC)
Ecology?
[edit]I'm surprised that there is no ecology section for the country with the 2nd highest biodiversity index score. ~2026-38966-23 (talk) 11:38, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
- The article has the "Biodiversity" and "Environment and conservation" sub-sections. They both cover bio-geography and endemism, terrestrial and marine ecosystems, forests, reefs, mangroves and seagrass beds, habitat loss, threatened species, protected areas, and conservation policy. Much of what might appear under a section called "Ecology" is already present, although that exact title isn't used.
- I'd be cautious about using the claim that Indonesia has the second-highest biodiversity-index ranking. There's no single universal measure of biodiversity, and rankings generally vary according to different criteria. That is, whether they count recorded species, endemism, habitat integrity, ecosystem condition, or other factors. "Global Biodiversity Index" ranks Indonesia second, but it's a composite ranking based on six groups of plants and animals, and more importantly, it acknowledges data limitations. More authoritative sources describe Indonesia as one of the world's megadiverse countries and give separate rankings for particular taxonomic groupings.
- If you think there's important ecological subjects that the current Biodiversity and Environment and conservation sub-sections don't cover, please identify them. The absence of a sub-section or section named "Ecology" doesn't mean a gap in coverage, IMO. AdaCiccone (talk) 12:02, 9 July 2026 (UTC)
Ethnic group section on Infobox
[edit]Indonesia consists of diverse ethnic groups. So, would it be better to simply merge the four largest ethnic groups into the 600+ ethnic groups in Indonesia? I think showcasing these four ethnic groups creates a sense of exclusivity among the many tribes that aren't represented. moreover the argument has been duplicated in here. Baqotun0023 (talk) 01:34, 28 July 2026 (UTC)
- Do you mean that rather than singling out the four largest ethnic groups, we should just say that Indonesia has more than 600 ethnic groups and leave the detailed figures to the body? Like the "Indigenous languages" row? AdaCiccone (talk) 05:11, 28 July 2026 (UTC)
- Maybe yes, why not just eliminate the 4 largest ethnic groups to simplify "+600 ethnic groups in Indonesia", instead of showing the 4 largest ethnic groups which would feel excessive according to the content of the article below. Baqotun0023 (talk) 05:39, 28 July 2026 (UTC)
- For representation, I have no strong opinion. I agree to just list it as "600 ethnic groups" because that would make the infobox shorter and make it serve its purpose more effectively (MOS:IBP) Let's wait out for other editors to see what they think. Or you can just be bold and edit it yourself right away. Then direct whoever objects to that to this discussion here. AdaCiccone (talk) 06:35, 28 July 2026 (UTC)

- Hi there, thank you so much for your willingness to review such an extensive article. Just FYI, I'm planning to take this to FAC in the future, so I'm hoping for a thorough GA review. AdaCiccone (talk) 04:49, 21 August 2026 (UTC)
- Oh ive read through it and done the spot checks and all that, definitely think it meets the criteria for a good article, not sure about featured though. But im not the best at doing those thorough and fancy reviews unfortunately. Would you rather me certify this as a good article now with a smaller review. Or would you rather me step back and hope someone whos better at doing massive reviews than me (😅) take over? Sorry. Thank you! Pencilceaser123 (talk) 05:19, 21 August 2026 (UTC)
- Well, that's disappointing, because any GA reviewer is supposed to go through all the six criteria for the review. I'm sure by simply saying "ive read through it and done the spot checks and all that, definitely think it meets the criteria for a good article", it'll be regarded by others as rubberstamping. If you're unwilling to do a thorough review, then yes I'd like another reviewer taking this over. I'll just reset this. But I appreciate you taking the time to read through it and perform spot checks. Cheers! AdaCiccone (talk) 06:32, 21 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thats not at all what I meant. I very much do the full criteria. I meant filling out a template and writing a long review. I assumed you meant that because going through all the criteria is not a "thorough" review it is the bare minimum. Sorry for the misunderstanding. "and all that" was referring to the other stuff you have to do. Like going through the criteria. Im so sorry you thought that, but I assumed that going through the criteria was a given and that you mentioning the FAC meant you wanted above and beyond. But sorry I do write weird and it can cause misunderstandings. Pencilceaser123 (talk) 07:39, 21 August 2026 (UTC)

I'll take this up! Author is the main contributor to the article, and I do not see any glaring issues upon a first skim, so I will go through the prose over the next few days.
One issue that comes up at first glance - although some SFNs are used, many book and journal sources do not use them. In addition to being a violation of MOS:FNNR, and thus failing GA criteria 2b, it makes it incredibly difficult to verify the information for a spot check; for instance, one would have to check all 320 pages of Of Palm Wine, Women and War to verify the information the information that the Majapahit emerged following the failed Mongol invasion. So my suggestion while I'm looking through the prose is to replace all cites to books, reports, and journals (anything with numbered pages) with SFNs to those sources.
Additionally, you have at least three cites to MDPI journals; this is a predatory publisher and its journals are not considered reliable due to a lack of review oversight. So all of this information should be replaced with better sources.
Prose review forthcoming! Great job with this so far. Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 07:28, 21 August 2026 (UTC)
- Duly noted. I think I'm gonna put this among the last of to-do items since you've only reviewed three sections as of this reply. I'd rather you review all of them first than adding them now. I also plan to use the rp tag instead of the sfn. I'm aware rp tags can be a bit of a dent visually due to those small numbers after the refs. What do you think? Basically rp tags serve the same purpose as sfns and address your difficult verification concern. AdaCiccone (talk) 03:47, 22 August 2026 (UTC)

Prose
[edit]Some of this stuff might be FAC-level prose quibbles. Feel free to push back on anything you feel is excessive - this is a great article, and I think you could definitely get it to FAC-ready status with a bit more work, so I'm happy to give more detailed feedback on that front. Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 07:50, 21 August 2026 (UTC)
- The lead is pretty good—avoids the typical trap for country articles to make it all history focused. However, since it should represent the article as a whole, there's still a couple gaps. A couple sentences on culture, infrastructure, and major industries could be helpful. To make room for this, I would recommend removing the specific figure of land area (this is in the infobox after all), and the list of neighboring countries (a reader can easily consult a map to get this info, so it would likely be superfluous in a fairly small space of the lead.) I'd also try to include a mention of the Indonesian language there; there's a bit of confusing statement around hundreds of ethnic and linguistic groups, with Javanese forming the largest, since Javenese is not the largest linguistic group (due to the existence of the non-Javanese Indonesian language). Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 07:50, 21 August 2026 (UTC)
- Duly noted. Since the lead is supposed to summarise all, I'm gonna put this among the last of to-do items since you've only reviewed three sections as of this reply. AdaCiccone (talk) 03:48, 22 August 2026 (UTC)
- I just did the lead. I had to cram several points in there, and removed some like the mention of Javanese, in order not to make it too long. The Indonesian language was actually there but it only linked as "national language". The current version is a bit more descriptive. AdaCiccone (talk) 14:32, 27 August 2026 (UTC)
- You should give a citation for the ethnic groups demographics. Is there not more recent data available?
Done on the citation. Unfortunately, the 2010 census is the latest comprehensive national breakdown for this. The 2020 census doesn't do the same. I did find newer data but it doesn't give a similar stat like the 2010 census. Instead, what is does is selecting ten groups and then gives stats within each group, stuff like age structure, migration, fertility, etc.
- Water percentage needs a citation (though its probably also a CIA factbook figure?)
Done, and yes it's from the CIA World Factbook. It also aligns with the List of countries and dependencies by area article.

- This is a very compact history section; generally a good thing, although you have a little more space to work with here in terms of article size (Seems like 9000 words is a good upper bound for country articles.) I think you could go into a bit more depth of the medieval and early modern periods, especially regarding the decline of the Majapahit and the spread of Islamic states in addition to just Islam as a religion.
Done
- Remember that links from the lead have to be re-linked in the body; so you should link the names of the islands, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, South Asia and East Asia, etc.

- Probably worth mentioning that Sailendra and Mataram are from Java
Done, removed with the revision.
- Surely worth explicitly mentioning Indian (eg, the Chola Empire) and Malay cultural influence as opposed to just their effects
- Wikinlink to Template:Campaignbox Dutch interventions in Bali is very clunky. This might be a good place for a red link to Dutch interventions in Bali
Done, linked to the final intervention in 1908. That article mentions that it was Holland's seventh and last military action in Bali, so previous interventions are also covered.
- Should probably wikilink Dutch. Also explicitly calling it the Netherlands at some point might be good (perhaps Netherlands East Indies instead of Dutch East Indies), because some readers may not be familiar with the naming convention there
Done, revised.
- Later megalithic traditions appeared in several regions, including Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, Sumba, Flores, and Nias Can probably get away with saying "across the archipelago" with a scope this broad
Done, revised.
- Link island Southeast Asia (also, should probably capitalize "island")
Done, removed with the revision.
- Foreign merchants, goods, technologies, writing systems, and religious ideas entered local societies through these routes Redundancies here; we know that foreign merchants would be bringing foreign goods, and the reader can assume that they're entering "local societies" in this context
Done, revised.

- giving Javanese Islam a style style to me would imply "aesthetic trappings", but I assume there's more to it here than that.

- Would be worth mentioning the spice trade and its status as the "spice islands" more explicitly early on; after all, the spice trade certainly predates the arrival of the Europeans.
Done
- I notice a lack of cultural or economic history in the latter two sections; it's all political. I think this is a shame, since I know there's a lot of complexity to Indonesian cultural growth in the colonial period through the 20th century
- No mention of the Indonesian National Awakening or the growth of Indonesian nationalism and "Indonesia" as a concept; seems like a major oversight
Done
- No mention of Chinese immigration?
Done, at the beginning of European contact and colonial rule
- Specify that East Timor was formerly a Portuguese colony
Done
- You mention the Aceh insurgency, but only at its conclusion. Also, no mention of the Papua conflict?
Done
- Perhaps Suharto might be a more important figure to include as a picture, as opposed to Mohammad Hatta
Done
Geography
[edit]- with published figures ranging from 13,466 named islands to more than 17,500 well hang on, this conflicts with the figure given in the lead, no? If it's ambiguous, you should say "at least 13,000" or at least "around 15,000" in the lead
Done
- Should specify that Java is the most populous rather than just "most densely settled" (since those are not necessarily synonymous)
Done
- Might be worth explicitly mentioning that "Papua" is the Indonesian half of New Guinea, instead of synonymous with Papua New Guinea (this is of course pretty confusing terminology to the uninitiated)
Done
- on New Guinea and Sumatra, surely
Done
- worth mentioning that Kalimantan is Indonesian Borneo
Done
- Link plate to tectonic plate.
Done
- Link monsoon winds. Explicitly explaining what the monsoon cycle does may be helpful
Done
- Link Nusa Tenggara
Done
- Link Australia
Done
- Link El Niño
Done
- The geology section is fun, but a bit expansive compared to other country articles; for instance, Japan, for which geology is an equally important part of day-to-day life, summarizes all of Geology into a single paragraph of Geography. My China article does the same; this might be a good approach to take here.
Done
- Ditto regarding Biodiversity and Environment and conservation; I feel these two sections could easily be combined into one, and maybe pared down to three paragraphs or so.
Done
Politics
[edit]- are taught in civic education as the basis of Indonesian citizenship values this can be shortened to "are taught as the basis of Indonesian civic values". You could also probably introduce it as "The Constitution's five principles of Pancasila for slight shortening and (IMO) less ambiguity
Done, revised.
- Do we need to give the Indonesian name for all of these government bodies and positions? Neither Japan or China's articles do this.
Done, trimmed them all.
- It might be worth just saying that Aceh, the provinces of Papua, and Yogyakarta have greater autonomy, as opposed to going in depth for each one.
Done, trimmed.
- I feel that the information about the future status of Jakarta until the capital officially moves is unneeded, as well as what legislation made Nusantara the planned capital. You can just say that "Nusantara on Borneo is planned as the future capital" or something to that effect.
Done, trimmed.
- Strange to link ASEAN as the acronym as opposed to the full name.
Done, I linked ASEAN because that's the title of the article. Now the full name is linked but it'll be a redirect.
- Is Indonesia's recognition of Palestine really one of the most key aspects of its foreign relations? Surely its ties to its neighbors are more important
Done, revised to include relations with Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia.
- I don't think we need to list the peacekeeping missions it has participated in.
Done, trimmed. Only mentioned the peacekeeping missions without the examples listing.
- apart from a brief absence from the organisation in 1965–66 -> "apart from an absence in 1965–66".
Done, revised.
- You don't need to bring up the acronyms for organizations you don't mention again
Done
- Military section seems excessively long, especially since Indonesia is not exactly a major military power. I think this can be condensed down to two shorter paragraphs, with the wars it has engaged in brought into the History section
Done, trimmed. I merged it with the foreign relations instead.
- "Human-rights concerns" doesn't need the hyphen. Might be worth linking Human rights in Indonesia in text, as well as LGBTQ rights in Indonesia
Done
- The paragraph on the National Commission on Human Rights can be condensed much more. Perhaps The National Commission on Human Rights is the main state human rights body. Its work has faced limits from political and internal disputes with other state bodies. (The reader can assume it is the Indonesian human rights body, that in so doing so it handles human rights issues, and that a variety of state agencies may have disputes with it.
Done, trimmed.
- No mention of the legal system at all, which seems like an oversight.
Done, added on the third paragraph of gov and politics opening section
- and post-1998 reforms separated the police from the military and made it responsible for internal security and public order I don't think we need this information if it is no longer part of the military
Done, removed.
Economy
[edit]- Giving raw figures on the economy's size might be helpful here, rather than purely in relative terms. Remember to give both US$ and rupiah figures
Done
- Link private sector
Done
- has the region's largest economy by GDP Is there another way it could have the largest economy? You might be able to remove "by GDP" here. It would require explicitly stating that the next two stats are GDP though
Done
- Tourism section is a bit confusing to me; it seems like there's a lot here that could be better put in the 'culture' section, where you already mention UNESCO cultural heritage, while the economic parts could just be a paragraph of the broader economy section.-G
Done, the destination list has been removed, so the focus is only on the economy-related stuff.
- Science and technology sections are helpful if this is a major part of the nation's economy, but from what the section says, the technology sector is pretty small in comparison to countries like Japan or China; remember that we gotta emphasize in our sections what is most important in the context of the country as a whole, rather than trying to fit it directly to a set format.-G
Done, I merged this into the whole economy sub-section.
Infrastructure
[edit]- Transportation feels like it could be condensed a bit. The first paragraph gives a great overview of the relative importance of different means of transportation, but then you restate it a lot in the following paragraphs.
- You could condense the last two sections of the first paragraph into one sentence; maybe Uneven port and infrastructure distribution leads to expensive freight transport, especially outside the main western islands, leading to price and trade disparities between provinces.?
Done, trimmed.
- In cities, formal public transport often operates alongside smaller public and paratransit modes, including bajaj, becak, angkot, minibuses, and motorcycle taxis This isn't helpful if we don't know what bajaj, becak, or angkot are. I don't think we need to list each form, we can just say that there are a variety of different modes. You could probably merge this and the next paragraph.
Done, trimmed them all.
- Energy goes into a bit too much detail, I feel. India, Japan, and China's articles all summarize energy in a single shortish paragraph.
Done, trimmed to just one paragraph.
Demographics
[edit]- Indonesia has a large and unevenly distributed population is unnecessary when you immediately say that Indonesia is the 4th largest country and explain how its unevenly distributed.
Done
- and a large working-age population A specific figure might be more helpful. Of course a large country would have a large working age population.
Done, added the specifics.
- Last two sentences of the emigration paragraph seem a bit too detailed. But there's a lacuna; what about immigration to Indonesia/numbers of foreign residents?
Done, but this is better removed I think. Indonesia is primarily a country of emigration, not immigration. But emigration too also isn't that of a significant social/demographic phenomenon nationally. So to keep in line with your suggestions so far about what is the most important points in the context of the country as a whole, I'd say removal is better.
- Austronesian languages should be linked here (and also at the first usage further up)
Done
- Indonesia is
alsoone of the world's most linguistically diverse countries
Done
- Link Papuan languages
Done
- If Dutch is no longer important, you don't need so much info about it. You can probably summarize this into a single sentence about how Dutch never became a widespread language. Demographic info from a very old census is of course gonna be slightly confusing to a reader skimming
Done
- freedom to choose and practise religion and belief could probably condense to "freedom of religion"
Done
- Probably don't need to link Pancasila again
Done
- powers tied to places such as fields, forests, rivers, and mountains -> powers tied to nature or natural areas, surely?
Done, simplified to "powers associated with nature."
- You already mention the history of religion in the history section, so I think the two paragraph about religious history is unnecessary. No need to mention Judaism if it not a major religion.
Done, trimmed them all.
- Net enrollment is highest at the primary level and lower at the secondary and tertiary levels This is basically a universal pattern; giving a statistic on what percentage of the population gets to secondary and tertiary levels would be much more helpful.
Done, added the specifics.
- Final paragraph of education can likely be condensed and merged with another paragraph in this section. Perhaps Student outcomes are generally stronger in urban and more developed areas than in many rural and disadvantaged areas, due to uneven infrastructure and teacher quality. I don't know if we need to say that Indonesia has especially bad learning outcomes, especially because "in comparison to participating countries" begets big questions on which countries exactly count.
Done, I'd rather keep this than delete it. Indonesia performs unusually poorly on a major international assessment, which therefore is nationally significant and belongs in a country article. But I made it more specific than just "near the bottom... among participating economies."
- Healthcare goes into quite a bit more detail than other countries' sections; this should be cut in half if possible.
Done, trimmed.
Culture
[edit]- temple painting, and modern painting can probably just say "painting"
Done
- Many are part of ritual and court life is "court life" still a thing they are part of? maybe "originated from ritual and court life"?
Done, revised.
- This sentence seems a little small; is sculpture so much more important than other forms of visual art? i feel like you could add another paragraph about non-sculpture visual arts and their variation over the archipelago. (Also, using a Western-style colonial painting, albeit made by an Indonesian artist, seems unrepresentative; surely we should showcase indigenous art traditions!)
Done, rewritten to be more balanced. Regarding the painting picture, I replaced it with the Batik because I put the clothing material in the new Visual arts and architecture sub-section. That's because for me, those traditional clothes are also part of the visual culture.
- I feel like there's a bit too much detail on theater and cinema. I think both of those could be condensed into single paragraphs.
Done, trimmed. Also reorganised.
- Younger performers also adapt global forms, including K-pop cover dance in Bali and hip-hop communities in Yogyakarta I feel you can cut off everything after "forms"; too varied to summarize.
Done
- Why are literature and mass media one subsection? These seem like very different concepts. Other countries' articles tend to group music, dance, and theatre under "performing arts", lump cinema with media, and have clothing as either its own section or under the main culture section
Done, reorganised.
- The big list of uncontextualized scripts and genres in traditional literature doesn't seem right. I also feel like naming any two specific works would be undue, unless its at the level of like, Shakespeare to English literature or the Shahnameh to Iranian literature. Give more context about genres and literary forms rather than just listing names.
- The list of modern authors seems a little undue, especially because they're juxtaposed with "Sumatran authors" as a whole. Where were they all from?
Done, both are trimmed.
- Rather than Pram's face, a picture of a famous manuscript or work of literature would seem more appropriate
I'm still looking for the appropriately representative picture, presently it uses a 1930s literary magazine cover.
- Why is the Nasi padang on the left side of the page? That just seems to invite sandwiching of the text. Also, the "p" in "padang" should be lowercased.
Done
- Badminton is one of Indonesia's most successful international sports This sentence reads weirdly to me. The *sport* is successful? Surely it'd be something like "Badminton is among the sports for which Indonesia is most successful within international competition"
Done, revised.
- Local crops, fish, spices, religion, trade, and migration all affect what people cook and eat This is kind of obvious.
Done
- Food traditions use
olderlocal ingredients and techniques
Done
- Link Asian Games. Also, if we mention the Olympics, surely we should mention their participation record overall in the Asian Games? When Indonesia began participating in the Olympics would also be nice info.
Done

- Starting my spot check now. I see one issue with the cites: the SFNs to "Hall" don't seem to link anywhere. Mahendradhata et al. 2017 isn't used at all, and neither is Whitten et al. 1996. Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 03:05, 1 September 2026 (UTC)
- Additionally, you have a CITEVAR issue here; some cites use SFNs, others use RPs. You should make sure these are consistent one way or another - I suggest using SFNs for convenience. Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 03:06, 1 September 2026 (UTC)
- Oh, so you prefer SFNs. Got it. I'll convert them but this will take time. In the meantime, I hope the RP tags can help you in doing the spot checks (not all sections though, still working on them). AdaCiccone (talk) 03:28, 1 September 2026 (UTC)
- You don't have to do SFNs, Rps work too; it just should be consistently SFNs or consistently RPs. These work fine for spot-checking at the very least! Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 04:35, 1 September 2026 (UTC)

- Another recommendation: you lean pretty heavily on Ricklefs throughout the history section. I don't think this is an issue at a GA level, but if you want to take this to FAC, you should incorporate another general history source. Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 04:32, 1 September 2026 (UTC)
- You have inconsistent date formatting for journals and books: some have full dates, some have just the year. This should be consistent. Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 04:52, 1 September 2026 (UTC)

@AdaCiccone: Okay! Sorry for the delay on that, I'm done with the source review now. Only a few bits to fix up. Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 06:22, 1 September 2026 (UTC)
- No problem, thank you for your reviews so far! Regarding some of your points above:
- Recent Advances in Far Eastern Paleoanthropology - the doi links to the proper destination, it's the Bibcode that goes to the Harvard site. I'm certain I wasn't the one who added that, must've been a citation bot.
- Dating hominid sites in Indonesia - the doi links to the proper destination, it's the Bibcode that goes to the Harvard site. I'm certain I wasn't the one who added that, must've been a citation bot.
- Noted regarding publication page vs internet archive in the bibliography.
- I've added RP tags for some sources you flagged as having long page ranges (125, 180, 286). The only sections left to do are Economy and Infrastructure and Culture.
- Noted on the rest, I'm working on it. AdaCiccone (talk) 02:36, 2 September 2026 (UTC)
- I think I've done all of your source-check comments. Tell me if there's anything I missed.
- Lengthy page range on many sources:
Done - Publication page vs Internet Archive page:
Done on some sources that you mentioned. - Introduce who the Wali Sanga were:
Done, new source added also. - Non-primary sources for judicial structure and POLRI structure:
Done, replaced with other sources. - Refined-petroleum imports unnecessary:
Done, removed. - Roesad PhD thesis:
Done, replaced with a IEA report. - The machine-learning paper:
Done, replaced with another source. - US State Department source:
Done, removed but Aritonang alone probably isn't sufficient because that book discusses early 2000s composition. I'm still looking for another source describing the more recent picture, so that the info doesn't seem outdated. - "Discussion of newspapers" comment: I've already moved this to a new section, Cinema and mass media. It seems that you reviewed a previous version?
- Cultural-diversity statement:
Done, already added specific pages from Forshee and Yampolsky. - SYNTH risk in visual arts and lengthy page range:
Done, page range reduced and sentence reworded. - Journal/book dates inconsistent:
Done, books and journals all use only years now.
- Lengthy page range on many sources:

Since you're preparing this article for FAC, a few extras. Only two are relevant for GA, so Generalissima, feel free to ignore these if you want to 'promote' the article if these two small ones are dealt with. Overall, an impressive piece of work!
- I dislike quibbling over citation style, but the rp citation style in this article is leading to some problems with readability. As in: it creates a lot of in-text 'noise' compared to sfn. Not sure if it's worth changing the style. Subreferences are coming by the end of the month, if you dislike sfn and you do opt for a different style, something new is coming.
I just finished converting all SFNs to RPs. I agree with the visual concern though. But the reason I chose RP is because most of the article already have RPs and only a few have SFNs, and converting the other way would be time-consuming. Also, I've looked at some FA articles that use RPs throughout like Space Shuttle Challenger disaster, so I thought I'll just go ahead and use that as an example.
- The motto in the lead can do with a translation into English

- Indonesia is expected to face rising temperatures, changes in rainfall, higher sea levels, and increasing risks from extreme heat and floods. -> Why is this an expectation? Climate change is impacting Indonesia already, and it's odd to frame it as a future problem.
Done, reworded.
- (GA) Dutch language never became widely spoken as Malay was already the archipelago's lingua franca. -> Grammar: "The Dutch language never .., or "Dutch never".
Done
- (GA) I would gloss tahu as tofu, which is the more familiar term outside of Indonesia.
Done

- Most images are quite small. Consider scaling all images up. Readers love images. On climate change, we have set it to upright=1.35, but not sure if that works here. The climate map will be unreadable even when scaled up like that. It's barely readable at full screen. In solidarity, —Femke (talk) 🐦 17:03, 3 September 2026 (UTC)
- Hi there, thanks for your additional reviews. I've done some of the above. Anyway for images, they are the one item that I rarely touch or comment on in the article unless they clearly and unambiguously get in the way like cases of sandwich and huge sizes. Honestly, I don't know what to do because not everyone has the same identical device, display-wise. AdaCiccone (talk) 09:23, 4 September 2026 (UTC)
- One thing you can try is to zoom in and out of the article, after increasing size (if you agree with my assessment that bigger pictures are a plus). That way, you simulate a set of different devices.

- Two more image comments:
- Consider browsing the featured / quality etc pictures on Commons to see if there are higher-quality ones available. On India, they've decided to limit themselves to quality images of some kind.
- Of the 26 individuals that are big enough in the picture to guess their gender, 26 seem to be male. Are women that invisible in Indonesian life and culture? Is a better balance possible? In solidarity, —Femke (talk) 🐦 11:50, 4 September 2026 (UTC)

In the first paragraph under the Demographics section, change "peopleper" to "people per".
The line reads: "Java is home to 56.1% of the population,[298] and its population density is far above the national average,[f] reaching 1,171 peopleper square kilometre (3,030 people/mi2)" Fragilephilosopher (talk) 11:15, 11 September 2026 (UTC)

Peer review
[edit]
I've listed this article for peer review because I'd like to take the article to FAC. It's just passed GA a few days back (I hope this isn't too soon). Any feedback is welcome. I want to make sure the article is in top-notch condition quality-wise before the FAC nomination is submitted.
Thank you, AdaCiccone (talk) 12:11, 11 September 2026 (UTC)

[edit]- (General note: if someone wants to go there, I want one more comment on the peer review on Malta, which is similar to this guy.)
- I may do more, but I’ll start with an image review and etymology, mostly because I’m lazy :).
- Don’t think you need to say who George Earl is; readers can click on him if they want to know.
- Etymology might be a good place to talk about the islands a bit. Can you name the big ones there?
- Should you translate the name of Bastian’s book? Cheers, In solidarity Wikipedian12512 (Talking is fine | contribs) 19:56, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- Pictures:
- I’d request a clear satellite image of the islands
- Maybe the infrastructure should have some pictures of older buildings or roads? Cheers, In solidarity Wikipedian12512 (Talking is fine | contribs) 20:01, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- Also, I’m seeing a gender gap in the pictures. Any way to fix that? Cheers, In solidarity Wikipedian12512 (Talking is fine | contribs) 21:07, 19 September 2026 (UTC)
Done Added a picture of a group of female Balinese dancers in one of the Culture sections. Not saying that this solves the visual gender gap in the entire article, though. FYI, this was raised during the most recent GA review and my response to that was adding Indonesian actress Suzzanna to the Culture section. AdaCiccone (talk) 05:53, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
- It’s a fine-ish balance now, as it’ll be hard to do more anywhere else. Thanks! Cheers, In solidarity Wikipedian12512 (Talking is fine | contribs) 14:40, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
Done on the satellite image. Thanks for pointing this out because it was a major oversight.- Well, since the infra section mentions nothing about buildings, I don't think any picture of buildings would add any value. Certainly it wouldn't align with MOS:IMAGEREL too. However after seeing your comment here and looking at that section again, I realise that the Whoosh image may not be representative of the section. So I replaced it with a cargo ship because the section is about transport and connectivity. AdaCiccone (talk) 06:00, 21 September 2026 (UTC)

- Hey thanks for reviewing this. I'll work on your suggestions on Monday since I'm on a weekend break. AdaCiccone (talk) 01:30, 20 September 2026 (UTC)
- No problem! Cheers, In solidarity Wikipedian12512 (Talking is fine | contribs) 15:23, 20 September 2026 (UTC)
- Also, why does the article have to be so great already? It makes it very hard to critique. Cheers, In solidarity Wikipedian12512 (Talking is fine | contribs) 15:25, 20 September 2026 (UTC)

- I’ll also do cuisine:
- When did the foreign flavors get introduced? I can figure out some of them, but it might be nice to explain all of them.
- How are the peanuts used? I can imagine a peanut sauce, but is there more?
- How did Indonesian cuisine impact other countries?
- Gotta admit, that section is well written. Cheers, In solidarity Wikipedian12512 (Talking is fine | contribs) 15:33, 20 September 2026 (UTC)
- I'll try looking into this Cuisine section. AdaCiccone (talk) 06:12, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
Done on the translation of Bastian's book but it's not an official translation I'm afraid.- Well, the Etymology section is more about the name Indonesia itself. I'd say that digging into the origins of the names of each major islands (Sumatra, Java etc) would make the section lose focus. Also, each major island already has its own article so I think the Etymology is better placed there. AdaCiccone (talk) 06:12, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
- Point taken, I probably just like linguistics too much. Cheers, In solidarity Wikipedian12512 (Talking is fine | contribs) 14:43, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
