Yauhan Mehta shared thisFive years ago, Daniel Botero was a LinkedIn connection. Today, I finally got to meet him in person. ❤️ And somehow, this feels much bigger than a photo. Exactly 3 years ago, Daniel invited me onto his How to Get a Job podcast. Here's that episode: https://lnkd.in/gEBvhiQq At the time, we had never met in person. We connected through LinkedIn, stayed in touch, and kept supporting each other because of our shared passion for career coaching and helping people build better careers. Fast forward to October 2026… I’m standing beside Daniel in his hometown of Orlando, Florida. Same smiles. Different setting. A very different chapter. What a full-circle moment. And what a beautiful way to begin a new month. I’m in Orlando for Daniel’s inaugural Career Coaches Live, surrounded by some of the most incredible career coaches across North America. I’ll be spending the next few days learning, sharing, laughing and connecting with Reno Perry, Adam Broda, Prashha Dutra, Richa Bansal, Pavi Theva, Mukhtar Kadiri, Dominic Imwalle, Giselle Moratin, MBA, Josh Bob, Marina Petrović, Alexander Harlan, Ana Maria Michelsen, Michael Daleo, Mariana Franco, SHRM-CP, Debra Shaw and so many others. I’m also incredibly excited to learn from Sanket Khanwalkar and Sedat Akkus from CoCareer, who have built a mind-blowing AI-powered platform specifically for career coaches. I feel incredibly humbled and grateful to be part of this room. Because sometimes, the best thing LinkedIn gives you isn’t a job lead, a client, or a follower. It gives you people. People who start as strangers. Then become connections. Then collaborators. And eventually, friends you get to hug in real life. Here’s to full-circle moments, meaningful friendships, and a beautiful October ahead. 🙏❤️

Yauhan Mehta shared thisAre you struggling to get replies from people during your job search? One of the biggest mistakes I see job seekers make is treating every LinkedIn message like a mini job application. They introduce themselves. They explain they're looking for a role. Then they ask for a referral. And wonder why the conversation ends there. The better approach? Give people a reason to reply before you give them a reason to help you. Try this simple framework: 1. Add context Why are you reaching out to this person? 2. Make it relevant Show the connection between their experience, company or role and what you're looking for. 3. Ask something easy to answer Ask for perspective, not a favour. For example: Instead of: “I'm looking for opportunities at Microsoft. Could you refer me?” Try: “I noticed you moved from Deloitte to Microsoft. I'm exploring senior analytics roles and saw your team works closely with data strategy. I'd love to hear what skills you've seen make someone successful there.” See the difference? The second message doesn't put them on the spot. It gives them something specific to respond to. And that's the goal of your first message. Not to get the referral. To start the conversation that could lead to one. Before you send your next 20 connection requests, ask yourself: “Have I given this person a reason to reply?” If the answer is no, rewrite the message. Which part of your job-search outreach do you struggle with most: finding the right people, writing the message, or getting replies?

Yauhan Mehta shared thisStop Writing Resume Bullets Like This 👇 “I managed a team.” “I improved processes.” “I worked with senior stakeholders.” “I handled customer issues.” All true. But none of them answers the question a recruiter is silently asking: “What changed because you were there?” That’s the shift I want you to make. Instead of writing your resume around responsibilities, write it around evidence of impact. Here’s the simple formula: ACTION + SCOPE + RESULT For example: ❌ Managed a team ✅ Led 12 people across 3 time zones ❌ Improved processes ✅ Cut monthly reporting time from 5 days to 2 See the difference? The second version gives the reader something to understand, remember and believe. And you don't always need a massive percentage or impressive dollar figure. You can show impact through: → Time saved → Revenue generated → Costs reduced → Customers served → Team size → Projects delivered → Efficiency improved → Scale or scope Before you submit your next application, scan every bullet and ask: “Does this tell them what I did, or does it show what changed because I did it?” If it's only the first one, rewrite it. Save this for your next resume edit. ____ 🔄 Share this with someone whose resume needs a revamp ➕ Follow Yauhan for practical strategies on resumes, LinkedIn, interviews and landing your next role.

Yauhan Mehta shared thisThe most underrated ChatGPT job search strategy: Giving it the right context. Most people focus on finding the “perfect prompt.” But the quality of the answer usually depends less on clever wording and more on what you give ChatGPT to work with. If you want useful output, build your prompts around these 5 things: 1. Give it the goal. Don’t just say “improve my resume.” Tell it what you’re trying to achieve. “I’m targeting Senior Product Manager roles in B2B SaaS.” Now the response has a direction. 2. Give it the source material. AI cannot identify your strongest experience if you only give it three lines about your career. Share your resume, the job description, LinkedIn profile, interview notes, achievements, or actual work examples. 3. Give it constraints. This is where many prompts fall apart. Tell it what not to do. For example: “Do not invent metrics, skills or experience. Keep the language natural and avoid generic corporate phrases.” That one instruction can prevent a lot of AI-generated fluff. 4. Ask it to analyse before it writes. This is a big one. Instead of immediately asking: “Rewrite my resume.” Ask: “First identify the biggest gaps between my experience and this role. Then suggest what should change and explain why. Only rewrite after that.” You get reasoning, not just rewritten words. 5. Make it challenge you. Don’t use ChatGPT only as a writing assistant. Ask it to find weak claims, missing evidence, unclear positioning, likely interviewer follow-ups, or assumptions a recruiter might make. That’s where it becomes much more useful for a job search. The goal isn’t to write longer prompts. It’s to give AI enough context + direction + constraints + evidence to produce something you can actually use. P.S. If you’re looking for a more structured way to use AI throughout your job search, I put together a 42-prompt AI Job Search Toolkit covering everything from career clarity to offer negotiation. It includes the prompts, the thinking behind them, and the common AI mistakes you need to watch for, so you’re not just copying and pasting prompts blindly. 👉 Get the free AI Job Search Toolkit here: https://lnkd.in/gvkTydzU

Yauhan Mehta shared thisIf you’re still waiting for your next job, I want you to read this. ❤️ There are only 3 months left in the year. And maybe you’re tired. Tired of applying. Tired of interviewing. Tired of hearing “we decided to move forward... ” Maybe you’ve even started questioning yourself. 𝘈𝘮 𝘐 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩? 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘐 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘰𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺? 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘴? Today, I don’t want to give you another job search strategy. I just want to say a little prayer for you. I hope your next job is more than just a paycheck. I hope you find a manager who believes in you and genuinely cares about your growth. A team that celebrates your success instead of competing with it. A place where your ideas are heard, your strengths are recognized, and you can finally feel like you belong. I hope you wake up excited about the work you’re doing. I hope you’re proud of the impact you’re making. And I hope you’re paid what you’re truly worth. Not just with a bigger salary. But with respect. With appreciation. With trust. Please don’t let a difficult season convince you that you are not valuable. Keep going. Keep believing. Keep showing up. I’m hoping that somewhere in the next month... There is the interview you’ve been waiting for. The offer you’ve been praying for. Sending my prayers, encouragement, and best wishes to every job seeker in this community ❤️🙏

Yauhan Mehta shared thisI average 4,000 steps a day. Recently, I set a goal for 20,000. It sounded a little crazy. I’m running a business, raising 3 kids, managing school and activities, taking care of things at home, and trying to keep up with everything life throws at us. Finding time for 20,000 steps didn’t exactly seem realistic. But I set the goal anyway. And something interesting happened. I stopped asking myself, “𝑪𝒂𝒏 𝑰 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒚 𝒅𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔?” Instead, I asked, “𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝒂𝒎 𝑰 𝒈𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒑𝒑𝒆𝒏?” By the end of the day, I had walked 20,124 steps. And honestly? It was easier than I expected. It reminded me how often we make our goals smaller before we even give ourselves a chance to achieve them. We decide something is unrealistic. We convince ourselves we don't have enough time. We listen to the voice telling us to be practical. And sometimes, that's exactly what's holding us back. What if the goal you think is impossible is simply unfamiliar? 𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤: Your goal is get crystal 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞, 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰𝐬 until you're confident, and 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐠𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠 until you get there. 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲: Your goal is to have a career that gives you the 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐦, 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐟𝐢𝐥𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, 𝐟𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬 you deserve. Most people don’t set goals that are too hard. They set goals that are too safe. My challenge for you today: 1️⃣ Dream bigger. 2️⃣ Set goals that scare you. 3️⃣ Believe you have what it takes. 4️⃣ Then go after them wholeheartedly. You might surprise yourself. Just like I did. If you're feeling stuck in your career and want help figuring out your next move, 𝐃𝐌 𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲.

Yauhan Mehta shared thisIf networking feels awkward, start here 👇 A lot of people think networking means: → Asking someone for a referral → Sending a generic “Hi, can you help me?” message → Sharing your CV immediately → Trying to connect with as many people as possible That’s where it starts feeling transactional. Instead, think about networking as building relationships before you need them. ☑ Start with context. ☑ Build relevance. ☑ Have a real conversation. ☑ Ask thoughtful questions. ☑ Create value. ☑ Follow up. ☑ Build the relationship over time. And don't measure networking by how many people accept your connection request. Measure it by whether a conversation turns into trust, familiarity, and a reason to stay in touch. The goal isn't to build the biggest network. It's to build a network where people know what you do, remember you, and understand where you could fit. Save this before your next networking conversation. 👇 And send it to someone who finds networking awkward.

Yauhan Mehta shared thisSome birthdays make you celebrate a year. Others make you realize how lucky you are to be a dad. ❤️ Today, my little girl Maliya turns 9. And looking back at the past year, all I can say is… Wow. What an incredible year you've had. You finished Grade 3 at a school you love, surrounded by friends you adore, especially Grace who is always on your mind... 😊 You won a silver medal in running. 🥈 You started singing classes and regularly give us little concerts at home, especially right before bedtime. 😂🎤 You competed in swimming and brought home so many medals for Mississauga that I honestly lost count! 🏊♀️ You received the Glue Award for teamwork and were recognized for leadership at school. You tried rock climbing. 🧗♀️ You celebrated your brothers' birthdays in the Canadian Rockies and held the Canadian flag at the Athabasca Glacier. 🏔️🍁 You enjoyed your brand-new bike all summer. 🚲 And you ran your very first 5K to support the Terry Fox Foundation. ❤️ So much to be proud of. But just like with your sister, what makes me proudest isn't the medals, awards or accomplishments. It's your heart. Your kindness. Your compassion. Your love for the people around you. You are such an amazing little sister to Myrah, even though you definitely enjoy annoying her once in a while. 😉😂 And watching you tie your very first Rakhi for Rayaan this year filled my heart with so much love. Maliya, I don't need you to be perfect. I just want you to keep being kind, curious, loving and completely YOU. Keep singing. Keep laughing. Keep exploring. Keep dreaming. Happy 9th birthday, my love. ❤️ You make Mom and Dad proud every single day. And I feel incredibly lucky that I get to be your dad.

Yauhan Mehta shared thisI’ve noticed 6 very different ways people approach a job search. You can spend hours applying, tailoring your CV, networking and asking for referrals… And still feel like you're getting nowhere. Because each tactic works better when it’s part of a bigger system. There are 6 common ways people approach a job search: → The Sprayer applies to everything. → The Scroller lives on job boards. → The Tailor optimises every application. → The Networker has conversations without a clear direction. → The Insider relies heavily on referrals. → The Strategist connects the whole system. The Strategist doesn't choose between applications, networking or referrals. They make them work together. Target the right roles. Position yourself clearly. Build relevant relationships. Apply strategically. Follow up consistently. Your job search shouldn't feel like throwing applications into a black hole. It should have a system behind it. So… which job seeker are you? Yauhan Mehta liked thisYauhan Mehta liked thisIf you've been job searching for months and you're starting to consider roles you'd have laughed at in month one, that's not you being realistic. It's one of the least talked about parts of a long job search, and everyone warns you about the rejections and the silence, but nobody warns you about what happens to your standards after the fortieth "thank you for applying" email lands in your inbox. The bar starts to drop, not because the roles got better, but because you got tired. A title you'd never have considered starts to look reasonable. A pay cut you swore you wouldn't take starts to sound survivable. You widen your filters and lower your salary floor, all so the inbox will finally give you a yes. This market makes it worse, because searches are dragging longer than they used to. Nearly 1.9 million job seekers have now been unemployed for six months or more, over a quarter of everyone currently out of work. When it stretches that long, lowering your standards isn't a personal weakness, but what the search does to almost everyone. The thing worth protecting through all of it is your standard for what's actually a fit. If you don't want to keep managing that filter manually while you're worn down, you can upload your resume to SimpleApply.ai and let it apply only where you're a strong match. It holds that line steady on the days your morale can't, so every shot you take is still worth your time. If you're job searching right now, sign up for SimpleApply.ai for free and connect with me here on LinkedIn. Career coaches: 85% of our active users land interviews every month. DM me, and I'll show you how it works. P.S. I'm working with a select group of qualified coaches to get their clients up to 20 interviews for free. DM me if you want in.

Yauhan Mehta liked thisYauhan Mehta liked thisYou can match every requirement and still not get the offer. That’s the frustrating part of interviewing when you’re up against other strong candidates. By the later rounds, the hiring team is choosing between several people with relevant experience. Help them see how your experience fits what they need: Maybe that’s a referral at the company who can vouch for your work. A relevant work sample (e.g. 30-60-90 day plan) that shows the hiring manager how you’d tackle the job. Or a thoughtful follow-up question that turns a broad discussion about the role into a useful conversation about what the team actually needs. Those moments give the interviewer more to go on than your title and years of experience. And they give you a better chance to understand whether the job is right for you, too. I also want to clarify…this doesn’t replace having the right experience. You can also do all this stuff well and still lose out to another candidate. But when the qualifications are similar, making your experience clear and relevant can help the hiring team picture you doing the job. I put 7 approaches I teach clients in this carousel, from getting a credible referral to explaining your results and sending a useful follow-up. I would pick one or two to work on before your next interview. P.S. My Career Leap program helps senior professionals with their job search, interviews, and offer negotiations. If you’re targeting a $200K to $500K role and want support with the process, there’s a short intake form in the Featured section of my profile.

Yauhan Mehta liked thisYauhan Mehta liked thisYou're brilliant at your technical role. The trouble is getting your brilliant points across to non-technical stakeholders. Presenting to them can feel harder than it should. Decisions get pushed back, and people start losing a bit of confidence in you. And you're left not knowing what actually went wrong. Here's what went wrong. You're the expert, so you know the subject so well that the steps you skip feel obvious to you. The acronym your team uses every day. The reason behind a design choice. Most of the people in that meeting don't have any of it, and nobody wants to be the one who asks what it means. Richard Feynman, the physicist, had a test for this: if you can't explain something to a ten-year-old, you don't understand it yet. For an expert, that test does something useful. It forces you to say out loud the steps you'd normally skip. It's called the Feynman Technique, and it has four steps. First, write one sentence with three parts: what's happening, why it matters, and what you recommend. For example: "The patch is two weeks late, which leaves us exposed to a known exploit, so I recommend we delay the release by one week to fix it." Second, explain it as if you're teaching a ten-year-old. Third, find the steps you skipped. Fourth, simplify again. I know "explain it to a ten-year-old" sounds like dumbing it down for smart people. Your senior leader is sharp, and that's not the point. You keep every step; you just drop the terms only your team uses. Get the idea clear first. Build the slides after. If this was useful, I've put together more ways to explain technical work clearly in the Guide: 7 Corporate Storytelling Principles. https://lnkd.in/gpjY7_gP

Yauhan Mehta liked thisYauhan Mehta liked thisI answered every thread within an hour. The decision got made without me. The trap is thinking that being responsive is the same as being in the decision. Fast replies get you thanked. A position on the record gets you asked. When someone finally has to choose, they choose from what is written down. If your message does not say what you would do, there is nothing of yours on the record to pick up. Same thread, same minute, different message. You read the whole thread. You saw the problem before anyone else did. You typed "just flagging" and went back to work. Then the call got made in a doc, and your read on it was nowhere in it. You were in every thread. You were not in the decision. 8 messages that put you on the record: 1/ "Sounds good to me!" ↳ "I'm a yes. The risk is the timeline, and I'd still ship it." 2/ "Just flagging." ↳ "I think this breaks checkout. I'd hold the launch." 3/ "Happy to help however!" ↳ "I'll take the migration. Who else is on it?" 4/ "+1" ↳ "+1 to option two. It's the only one we can support." 5/ "I could be wrong, but..." ↳ "Here's my read. Tell me where it's wrong." 6/ "Does that make sense?" ↳ "Let me know if you see it differently." 7/ "Following!" ↳ "I own the API side. Loop me in before this lands." 8/ "Adding Dan, he knows more here." ↳ "Here's my read. Dan can confirm the data." None of these take longer to type. They just leave something on the record that someone has to answer. You can be easy to work with AND hard to leave out. 💾 Save this for the next thread where you already know the answer. --- ♻️ Repost to help your network 🔔 Follow Shivani Berry to advance in your career in the age of AI
