Nick Raymond shared thisSo happy to have sat down with my amigo Christian Rocha at Canva Connect Sydney last week. We got into his journey to Australia, how he found his way into marketing, and what it takes to support a network as large as Belle Property & Hockingstuart. Outside of his infectious personality and ability to pull of loafers without socks, the balance is the interesting part: people need the freedom and confidence to create, while the brand still needs to be at the centre of what they make. His team has struck that perfectly. Christian is also just a phenomenal leader that deeply cares about his people. I couldn’t think of anyone better to share their story. Having so many of Christian’s team there made it even better, especially Louise Jewiss & Renee Singh who worked so hard to ensure the rollout was as successful as it was. --- Disclaimer: My LinkedIn is officially a Lauren Vorster fan club. I have run out of superlatives to describe the impact you have on our team, customers and partners, so I'll include this disclaimer on all future posts.

Nick Raymond shared thisNot sure how to properly articulate the week with Canva and Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. Probably starting with the fact our experiential team, in another country, managed to take over the entire South of France with the experience they built. The thing that stood out the most was the people. Brands, agencies, creators, all speaking about creativity. How it's getting faster, and more people are getting in the room. Working in the heat was a fun challenge but the thought that went into the space and the attitude of the team made it feel effortless. Thank you to everyone who stopped by, and for all the new faces I had the pleasure of meeting! + a massive shoutout to the Virgin Voyages team. That was special to see.

Nick Raymond shared thisShort but mighty trip down to Melbourne for Canva Connect Enterprise last week. Great to share a room with the actual humans busy building their new ways of scaling content and personalisation... all the while juggling consumer trust and value (perceived). Massive kudos to Lauren Vorster (Rice). You've set the standard for what these events should feel like. Our team would be lost without you. + Jackie Hill, Nicole Kaminski, Sarah Tilleke & Abbey Scott. The four of you have booked your permanent spot for all future Canva Enterprise events!

Nick Raymond shared thisEveryone always asks the co-pilot for help, nobody asks if the pilot’s okay :( But check out this cool interactive Flourish chart (available with Canva) made by Tey: https://lnkd.in/eS_rMPJe An AI platform with specialised tools versus multiple platforms with limited cohesion. Very easy to see how this creates confusion for end users … way more time is spent prompting which is not an effective personal operating model.Nick Raymond shared thisYou board a plane. You glance to the left into the cockpit. Two seats. Pilot and copilot. The copilot is one person with one job. Sit next to the pilot. Help fly the plane. And then there’s Microsoft. They named their AI chatbot "Copilot" and thought: what if there were twenty of them, none of them knew about each other, and half of them had the same name? There's (brace yourselves)... Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Microsoft Security Copilot, Azure Copilot, Copilot Mode in Edge, Copilot for Dynamics 365, Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat, Microsoft 365 Copilot app, Copilot in Microsoft Fabric, GitHub Copilot, GitHub Copilot Chat, Microsoft 365 Copilot for SMB, GitHub Copilot Enterprise, Copilot in Power Apps, Copilot key (a physical key on keyboards), Copilot+ (entire laptops). And my favourite: Microsoft Copilot Studio... where you can build more copilots 😅. That's 17. I thought that was the full picture. It's not. I went through Microsoft's product documentation, marketing pages, and launch announcements. The actual count? 78 separately named products, features, and services - all called 'Copilot'. I mapped every one and created an interactive chart to show the madness (link below). Microsoft Office has been renamed and is now the Microsoft 365 Copilot app. Bing Chat has had its name changed 5 times in the last 3 years and is now Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat 😵💫 How does this happen? Speed + fear. When you don’t know where to go, you go everywhere. Every internal team had the same realisation: prove you're part of the AI story or risk irrelevance. But nobody stopped to ask what they were racing towards. 'Copilot' isn't a naming strategy - it's a survival instinct. But this isn't just a Microsoft problem. This is a pattern I see repeating across organisations of every size. The pressure to move fast on AI is real - but what's happening is that the fear of being perceived as "behind on AI" is producing worse decisions than actually being behind. Renaming is faster than rebuilding. Branding is easier than integrating. And stamping "AI" on what already exists will always feel more efficient than stepping back and asking what a genuinely transformed experience would look like. Three signs you might be "Copiloting" your own organisation: 1/ Your teams are each building their own AI initiatives, but nobody's asking how they connect - or whether they should. 2/ You've renamed existing tools/processes with "AI" in them, but the underlying workflow hasn't changed. 3/ People have quietly gone back to doing things the old way - and nobody's asked why. The copilot metaphor is almost too perfect. A copilot is supposed to mean one trusted partner who helps you get where you're going. 78 of them in the cockpit with no flight plan is just turbulence. - You can play with a fully interactive version of the chart here: https://lnkd.in/eS_rMPJe

Nick Raymond reposted thisNick Raymond reposted thisLast Thursday I used Uber's courier service to send a work-related package to a customer at Sydney Olympic Park. I handed it directly to the driver at the Canva office in Surry Hills. The package never arrived. When I checked the app, the GPS trail showed the driver went around the corner and then vanished. No delivery. No update. No contact. Since then I have reached out to Uber six times across every support channel they offer. Each time I get the same response: "We're looking into it and will get back to you within 24 hours." They never do. Here's what makes it worse. The driver has now been removed from the app entirely, they no longer appear on my receipt. Uber has clearly identified a problem and acted on it internally. But they refuse to issue a refund, and they refuse to provide me, the customer, with any resolution whatsoever. So to be clear: Uber knows the delivery failed - look at the map on the receipt! Uber knows the driver is no longer on their platform. And Uber still won't refund or respond. This isn't about $42. It's about a company that has scaled past the point of caring about the people who use their platform. If anyone from Uber is reading this, my case has been open for six days with zero meaningful follow-up. I'd welcome a conversation. Nick Raymond reposted thisNick Raymond reposted thisWho says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? As a very old-school Adobe designer, I’ll admit I was pretty resistant to even opening Canva. I’ve spent most of my career working in sophisticated design environments, so the idea of a “simpler” platform didn’t exactly excite me. But after spending some time properly exploring the Canva ecosystem, I’ve had a bit of a mindset shift. For many businesses, the real need isn’t a more complex design tool; it’s a democratised production platform that enables more people to create high-quality, on-brand work. Great designers don’t protect the tools. They design systems that let everyone do better work. #canva #canvadesignschool #creativeoperations #inhousecreative Canva

Time flies when you're demoing to hundreds of people, meeting customers around the world, attending your first Canva Create, your second Canva Connect, your 50th real estate conference, and having so. much. fun. I'm still as obsessed with this job as I was on day one - actually, even more so. Love ya Canva 💖
