Context
With 2.1 million internally displaced persons, Burkina Faso is experiencing one of the wold’s fastest-growing displacement crises.
Nearly 5.9 million people are in need of multisectoral assistance and 25% of households experiencing severe to very severe needs. In addition, the effects of climate change are making Burkina Faso increasingly vulnerable to drought (25 out of 45 provinces knows a medium or high risk of drought) and flooding. The country is also facing growing food insecurity, which affects approximately 2.7 million people, including 423,338 in the emergency phase.
The year 2025 was marked by numerous humanitarian challenges, including restricted access to certain affected areas and persistent underfunding, with only 262.3 million dollars mobilized, representing 33.1% of financial needs covered as of December 31. This mobilization rate is the lowest in the last 10 years. In response to this situation, humanitarian partners are calling for an additional $792.6 million dollars to meet the urgent needs of 3.7 million people in Burkina Faso.

SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL provides a multi-sector response in six regions of Burkina Faso: Kuilsé, Liptako, Sourou, Soum, Bankui and Yaadga.
In Burkina Faso, SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL is working to ensure sustainable access to drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene in order to improve health, reduce water-related diseases, and strengthen the resilience of vulnerable populations in blockaded and hard-to-reach areas. The organization also implements an integrated response strategy in food and nutritional assistance and water, hygiene, and sanitation (WASH) at the health and community levels. It supports the empowerment of displaced households and hosts by providing shelter and essential household items as well as food and nutritional assistance, while supporting livelihoods (income-generating activities, agriculture).
This diversity of actions, as well as our ability to operate in areas with restricted access, is made possible thanks to our many financial and implementing partners, institutional and private, both international and local.
SOLIDARITÉS INTERNATIONAL remains a key player in Burkina Faso in the areas of water, hygiene, sanitation and food security. It is an active member of the Forum of Humanitarian INGOs (FONGIH). The organization sits on the Strategic Orientation Committees of these clusters and also co-leads the coordination of the WASH cluster.
