📅 Got 1 hour? You could help launch someone’s tech career. Per Scholas Detroit is looking for volunteer interviewers for our IT Support Mock Interviews on Friday, October 16th. You do not need to be in tech to volunteer! If you have 1 hour, you can volunteer virtually or in person, to conduct a mock interview and provide feedback that can help an emerging tech professional build confidence and prepare for their next opportunity. Your presence could be the difference between “I’m nervous” and “I’m ready.” If you’re passionate about supporting emerging talent and investing in Detroit’s workforce, we’d love to have you volunteer! Yesterday, Per Scholas Detroit joined an incredible group of workforce, technology, and community leaders for Rise with Tech, convened by Rocket Community Fund. There was something powerful about having organizations like DSDT College, Focus: HOPE:, Detroit at Work , Black Tech Saturdays, Per Scholas Detroit, GapBridge Strategies, Office of Mobility Innovation at The City of Detroit and others in the same room not simply talking about our individual programs, but asking a bigger question: What becomes possible when we connect the ecosystem? 💻🤝🏽 Training. Employer relationships. Career pathways. Talent placement. Retention. Data. Opportunity. We each hold a piece of the puzzle. Rise with Tech creates an opportunity to start putting those pieces together. At Per Scholas Detroit, we know Detroit has talent. Our work is about ensuring that talent has access to the skills, connections, and opportunities needed to build thriving careers in technology. 🤝 There’s something powerful about having the right partners right as your neighbor. Today, the Per Scholas Detroit team was excited to celebrate The Heat and Warmth Fund (THAW) at their Open House, right here in the building we now share! Beyond being neighbors, we’re excited about what this proximity can mean for our learners. At Per Scholas Detroit, we know that preparing someone for a thriving career in tech means recognizing the whole person. Life doesn’t stop while someone is in training, and access to trusted wraparound services can make the difference when a learner encounters an unexpected barrier. That’s why collective partnerships matter. Having THAW in the same building creates another opportunity to build stronger connections between workforce development and critical community resources making support more accessible to the people we serve. When organizations stop working in silos and start building an ecosystem together, we can collectively remove barriers, strengthen families, and create clearer pathways toward economic mobility. Last Thursday, we welcomed prospective learners, community members, alumni, and partners to our Per Scholas Detroit Open House! 🎉 It was a great opportunity to connect with our community, learn more about our no-cost technology training programs, and explore the pathways Per Scholas provides to help Detroiters build careers in tech. A special thank you to our incredible alumni panelists, Terrell Hemphill, Arnell Darden, and La Kayla Stewart, for sharing their experiences, insights, and career journeys with our prospective learners. Innovation in the classroom can take many forms and sometimes it looks like an incredible team finding new ways to make learning work. At Per Scholas Detroit, we want to recognize Jeff Mehl, our IDQA Virtual Instructor, and Tracy Maricle, our On-Prem Fellow, for the partnership they have built to keep our learners engaged, connected, and supported. Walk into the classroom and you’ll see learners working side-by-side on projects, exchanging ideas, troubleshooting together, and learning from one another. Jeff guides instruction virtually while Tracy provides hands-on support in the classroom creating a learning environment that combines technical instruction with real-time, in-person assistance. And our favorite part? Those “ahhhh, I got it!” moments when a learner works through a challenge and suddenly everything clicks. 💡 Those moments represent more than understanding a technical concept. They represent growing confidence, persistence, teamwork, and the skills our learners will carry with them into their careers.
