Trust in the operation and outcome of AI systems is of critical importance not just for our Telco industry but across every business. Specifically for CSPs, trust is the basis on which the industry works. CSPs have earned the trust of their customers over decades, connecting them with the rest of the world and protecting their data. As our industry embeds AI into end-to-end workflows, the hard-earned trust can quickly evaporate if the outcomes provided by the use of AI are not trustworthy. For AI to Scale within organizations and drive significant business value and outcomes, it is imperative to have strong governance, transparent processes, robust security, responsible data practices, human oversight, and the ability to demonstrate that AI systems are acting as intended, repeatedly. The recent report (see below) released by TM Forum in collaboration with IBM Institute for Business Value explores the gap that exists within our industry when it comes to assuring that the deployed AI is working as intended, and is controllable, explainable and trustworthy. This is a key pre-requisite for driving AI implementation and adoption at scale. Great work from our partners at TM Forum - Guy Lupo Mark Newman Nik Willetts and my IBM colleagues Rakhee A. Chachra Eoin Coughlan Madalina Fainisi Giovanny Moreano

Confidence is not the same as trust. That is one of the clearest reflections I took away from our IBM Institute for Business Value research with TM Forum on AI trust and assurance in telecommunications. As CSPs move AI deeper into networks, operations, customer engagement and decision-making, the question is no longer only whether AI can create value. It is whether that value can be trusted, governed and demonstrated at scale. The data shows the gap clearly: 72% of CSPs are confident their AI is trustworthy. Only 18% hold externally reviewable evidence. And just 14% can do both — feel confident and prove it. For me, that is the shift the industry now needs to make: from belief to evidence. Governance frameworks matter. Policies matter. Reviews matter. But as AI becomes more autonomous, trust cannot depend only on periodic checks or internal confidence. CSPs will need assurance that is continuous, operational and built into how AI systems behave in live environments. That means being able to show where AI is operating, what boundaries it is acting within, how decisions are monitored, and what evidence can be produced for boards, regulators, customers and partners. This is especially important for telecom because CSPs operate critical digital infrastructure. When AI touches the network, security, service assurance, customer operations or billing, trust is not an abstract principle. It becomes an operational requirement. It was a pleasure working with Guy Lupo and Mark Newman on this research and narrative. Nik Willetts’ framing of trust as central to telco brand value at DTW Ignite also helped sharpen why this topic matters now for the industry. Thanks also to my IBM colleagues Rahul Kumar, Eoin Coughlan, Madalina Fainisi and Giovanny Moreano for helping bring this collaboration together. • Discussions at this year's Consumer Goods Forum reinforced just how important AI governance has become for consumer goods organizations. As AI becomes more embedded across the value chain, governance can't be an afterthought. Weak governance becomes brand risk, where a single bad output can erode trust. 👁️🐝Ⓜ️ The tokenized economy is moving from experimentation to execution, but not evenly. Some institutions are already defining their role in this emerging ecosystem, while others are still assessing where and how to play. The gap is starting to widen. In our latest IBM Institute for Business Value research, we see clear signals: tokenization is accelerating, new revenue pools are emerging, and competitive dynamics are shifting toward platform-based models. ⁉️ The real question is no longer if tokenization will matter—but who will capture the value. 🗓️ On July 8, I’ll share key insights from our latest research and what they mean for banks and financial institutions navigating this transition. Join us if you’re thinking about where your organization fits in the tokenized economy. 👉 Register now: https://lnkd.in/d3M3m3Si #Tokenization #BankingIndustry #DigitalAssets #IBM IBM Dinesh Nagarajan , Shweta Jain , Shanker Ramamurthy , Giovanny Moreano , Andreea Argint , Sarah Villavicencio, MBA , Undine Pfeiffer , Steven Chong

It’s now mid-2026, and the leadership in many organizations have moved beyond uttering AI platitudes such as “we’re exploring how to use AI.” Some are still plastering the term “AI” liberally on tasks even when no AI tools or techniques have been applied. But there have been enough organizations using AI, generative AI, and AI agents for us to see how well AI has been working. What we see is that the AI scene has become more complex with the latest focus on AI agents, which are based on generative AI, and in particular, a focus on autonomous AI. Some organizations have begun deploying multiple AI agents on workflows — agentic workflows. The results span the range from good to poor. There are still plenty of issues to work out. Responsible leadership must still think hard about numerous issues: Are they and their organizations ready; How do they make the most effective use of AI tools and which ones; What are the organizational and operational ramifications, What are the societal implications; How do they do so responsibly, especially given a changing regulatory landscape and reputational damage. What are the economics of AI. And there are plenty more questions. Add to that, the cost of AI tokens which have broken many budgets. The demand, corporate expectations, token cost, workforce implications, complicates the CIO’s responsibilities. AI has changed what CIOs need, including what they need from their organizations. CXOTalk host Michael Krigsman talks with guest Andy Baldwin, SVP, IBM Consulting  about “The CIO Agenda for AI.” This Friday, 10 July 2026, [video] interview streaming LIVE at 1 pm EDST / 10 am PDST. What are the main trends in what organizations expect from enterprise AI and how are CIOs positioned to meet those expectations? Most transformation methodologies don’t outlive the engagement. They walk out the door with the consultants, and the next team starts from zero. That’s starting to change. Instead of keeping methodology separate, it’s being embedded directly into the platform, turning it into a reusable, continuously improving blueprint that teams can build on. Pair that with agent-assisted workflows, and “faster” and “repeatable” no longer have to be a trade-off. The graphic below highlights the forces behind this shift, from stalled AI initiatives and fragmented tooling to rising costs and increasing governance demands. Recent Gartner® research highlights how IBM is leaning into this model by embedding AI-driven engineering methodologies into the platform itself, turning transformation into reusable blueprints and agent-assisted workflows. If you’re curious where the AI services market is heading, and why this approach is gaining momentum, take a look at the full paper: https://lnkd.in/efBNRFsF
