Interviews can be stressful, even when you know you’re qualified for the job. Talking about yourself without sounding rehearsed, navigating salary expectations, answering tough questions, and then waiting to hear back can all make the process challenging. The best thing you can do? Prepare. Know your experience, have examples ready, research the role and salary range, and remember that an interview is a two-way conversation. Which part of interviewing do you find the most challenging?

Candidates often approach interviews as auditions. That’s a mistake. Yes, convince the employer you can do the job. But spend just as much time learning whether you actually want it. The hardest things to assess—your future manager, team, culture, and what your day-to-day will really look like—won’t be in the job description. You’re not just trying to earn an offer. You’re deciding whether to accept one.

The Nigerian blood flows in anyone. However, a toxic workplace starts from being Interrogated instead of genuine interaction so watchout as an applicant. Best of luck to both the candidate and the recruiter.
Group HR Manager | Talent Acquisition | Employee Relations | HR Business Partner | Performance Management | Compensation & Benefits | Organization Development | Workforce Planning | Labor Relations | Conflict Resolution
In my experience, the best interviews I have had, both physically and virtually, have been with international recruiters. Their approach feels more like a genuine interaction than an interrogation. They typically introduce themselves, tell you about the company and the role, and even discuss the salary range before moving on to questions about your experience, skills, and background. Unfortunately, many Nigerian recruiters and hiring managers seem to approach interviews differently. Some treat interviews like a gateway to heaven, while others turn them into full-blown interrogations. There’s still a lot of room for improvement when it comes to creating a more respectful and engaging interview experience. We can do better.

It's time recruiters modify their style. It's shouldn't be always interrogation but with Engineering fields for instance, you can probe further by engaging the candidates through site touring and be asking questions and even test candidates practically based on the equipment onsite like for instance troubleshoot some problems on Gearboxes or diesel engines and repairs etc rather than they come and rattle with their mouths and you consider or shortlist them as better than others. It's time the narrative must change or be modified.

Hot take: Most job interviews are not about skills. They’re about communication. Two candidates can have similar experience. The one who explains their work clearly almost always gets the offer. Interviews reward storytellers. Not just workers. Imagine sitting in your next interview… and they ask questions you’ve already practiced. You don’t panic. You don’t hesitate. You answer clearly, because you’ve seen them before. That’s what happens when you train properly. Reachout through DM, Upload your CV + job description and practice real questions.

What went wrong? One frustrating truth about job interviews is that passing the first stage does not mean the final interview will test the same things. This is why interview preparation should change as the process progresses. Before the next round: ✅ Revisit the job description and identify the skills likely to be assessed. ✅ Understand the interview format. ✅ Prepare relevant examples for likely interview questions. ✅ Practise communicating experience clearly, especially when discussing achievements and problem-solving. ✅ Review previous interview and identify what could be stronger. No two interviews are the same. Preparing for a final round interview with the exact same approach used for the first round can leave important gaps. If preparing alone has become frustrating, MOP GLOBAL LTD's interview coaching can help. Get personalised job interview preparation, practical feedback and a tailored 90-day roadmap based on the target role and career goals. The next interview deserves more than last-minute preparation. It deserves a strategy. Send us a message via our website and let's identify what needs to change. https://mopglobal.co.uk #InterviewTips #InterviewPreparation #InterviewCoaching

Preparing for a job interview can sometimes feel like preparing for a national examination. 😅 You spend days researching the organisation, studying the job description, going through your CV, preparing examples, anticipating questions, and rehearsing how you will present your experience. You prepare so much that you feel, “I know this. I’m ready.” Then the interview starts. 😂 Suddenly, the nerves kick in. You over-explain. You talk off-topic. You forget the perfect example you rehearsed for three days. You give a long answer to a short question. Sometimes, you even walk out thinking, “Why didn’t I say THAT?” And that is one of the most difficult things about interviews: you are not only preparing your knowledge—you are preparing yourself to perform under pressure. The interview may take 30–60 minutes, but the preparation behind it can take days. It reminds me that preparation is important, but so is learning to stay calm, listen carefully, answer the question actually asked, and trust the experience you already have. Because sometimes, the biggest challenge is not whether you know the answer. It is whether you can access it when the pressure is on. To everyone preparing for an interview: prepare thoroughly, practice, breathe—and remember that you don't have to be perfect. You just have to communicate your value honestly and clearly. #InterviewPreparation #CareerGrowth #ProfessionalDevelopment

Have a job interview coming up? Make sure you are doing these things to prepare and make the most of the time: 1. Prepare five stories. Do this and you can be ready to answer dozens of question scenarios. 2. Study the job description. The skills, responsibilities, and expectations are written out for you. Use them. 3. Prepare for ‘tell me about yourself’ question. We know it’s coming! Yet people still stumble on this one all the time. 4. Research the company. Don’t just look at their website. Read news. Check out Glassdoor. Have an idea of what you are getting yourself into. 5. Prepare at least three questions. If you are naturally asking questions throughout the interview, that’s great! But if they are saved until the end, ask more about the role, the team, clarification on schedule/expectations, etc. Happy interviewing!
