Running deployments
All right, let's talk about deployments. So we start with a container, and we normally run a container in a pod. And this pod is going to the cloud. And there you run it as an application. Now let's say that we have many users that want to run your application. And the application might get stressed, and it might get in problems. It might even crash completely. You don't want to do that, so in order to fix that problem, you are going to run replicas, multiple replicas of the application. And by using multiple copies of the application, you get multiple instances. The application is stateless, so there is no problem running multiple instances of your application to increase the availability and the redundancy of your application. That's what we call scalability. Now that is what we do in a deployment and these deployments offer another advantage as well and that is the zero downtime application update.
