About The Role
We are seeking a talented and creative Mass Communication Specialist to join the U.S. Navy’s Public Affairs team. In this role, you will serve as a vital storyteller, responsible for communicating the Navy’s mission, achievements, and values to the public and internal audiences. Your work will involve capturing compelling visual content, producing engaging multimedia stories, and managing media relations to enhance the Navy’s public image. This position offers the opportunity to travel globally, document military operations, and develop high-profile media campaigns that showcase the dedication and professionalism of Navy personnel. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for storytelling, a flair for creativity, and the ability to work effectively under pressure in diverse environments.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; higher education in communications, journalism, media production, or related fields preferred.
Proficiency in photography, videography, and multimedia content creation.
Experience with digital editing software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects) is desirable.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to operate and maintain professional photography and video equipment.
Excellent research and analytical skills to identify target audiences and evaluate campaign effectiveness.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced environments.
Willingness to travel extensively and adapt to various operational settings.
U.S. citizenship and eligibility for security clearance.
Responsibilities
Develop and produce print publications, multimedia content including videos, images, digital graphics, and web-based products that effectively communicate Navy initiatives and stories.
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced photography and videography equipment to ensure high-quality content production.
Conduct research to identify key messages, target audiences, and communication gaps, providing strategic feedback to leadership for campaign planning.
Analyze data and media metrics to assess the reach and impact of communication efforts, adjusting strategies as needed.
Identify communication challenges within the organization and develop innovative solutions to enhance public engagement and internal messaging.
Coordinate with local and national news media outlets to disseminate stories, arrange interviews, and foster positive media relations.
Organize and conduct ship and base tours for high-profile visitors, including foreign dignitaries and government officials, ensuring a positive and professional presentation of Navy facilities and personnel.
Assist Public Affairs Officers and senior Mass Communication Specialists in managing media interactions, press conferences, and crisis communication efforts.
Develop content strategies aligned with Navy objectives, creating compelling data-driven stories that highlight achievements and operational success.
Represent the Navy in speaking engagements with the press, articulating key messages confidently and professionally.
Maintain awareness of current media trends and communication technologies to continuously improve outreach effectiveness.
