Steven Senkus liked thisSteven Senkus liked thisQuick proposal: it's time to give up pull requests. PRs were built for a world where a human wrote code slowly, thought hard about every line, and needed a review gate before merge. That world's gone. Now half our diffs are LLM-generated, shipped in minutes, and iterated on faster than any reviewer can meaningfully read them. We're running 2024 process on 2026 output in a world every month is the equivalent of a decade of the 90s or 00s. Why it's broken: - Reviewers are rubber-stamping 400-line (or 1600-line) AI diffs because there's no time to actually understand them - The PR queue has become a bottleneck that punishes speed instead of enabling it - "LGTM" now means "I trust the model" not "I read this code" - We're optimizing for a review ritual, not for actual correctness or safety What to do instead: 1. Replace pre-merge review with continuous, automated verification — tests, type checks, behavior diffs, and LLM-based reviewers that actually read every line (they can, we can't) 2. Merge to main by default, gate releases instead of commits — ship fast, catch issues at the release boundary with real monitoring 3. Reserve human review for architecture decisions and irreversible changes, not routine feature work 4. Treat code as disposable and regenerable — if an AI wrote it in 10 minutes, the fix is often just regenerating it, not painstakingly patching a diff The goal isn't less rigor, it's rigor that matches the actual speed and nature of how code gets made now. PRs made sense when writing code was the bottleneck. It isn't anymore so maybe let's stop pretending our process should look the same? But hey, throw a proposal this way I'm open to alternate solutions to the current mess.

Steven Senkus liked thisSteven Senkus liked thisAgentic AI becomes intriguing when we stop asking LLMs to self-regulate. Frank Coyle argues for using ontologies as semantic guardrails for probabilistic agents: Check the inputs -> Validate the meaning -> Take action. This is worth 20 minutes. https://lnkd.in/ghXUJNDqWhy Agentic Systems Need Ontologies — Frank Coyle, UC BerkeleyWhy Agentic Systems Need Ontologies — Frank Coyle, UC Berkeley

Steven Senkus liked thisSteven Senkus liked thisThis weekend I got my sim racing dashboard project into testing. It's a touchscreen with a Raspberry Pi mounted on the back. Real-time telemetry streams in from iRacing, and the Pi interprets it and puts the info that matters up on the screen. For serious sim racers, it's a way to watch your car's status and gauge your own performance during a race. More coming soon. Gotta love just for fun side projects!

Steven Senkus liked thisSteven Senkus liked thisNow that I have retired, I realized there was something more I can remove from my life .... LinkedIn. Honestly, the amount of AI slop, helpful posts such as "Things hunting worms at night taught me about leadership" and spammy LinkedIn mail, there's not much use I have for this platform anymore. If you want to catch up, old-fashioned email will work! del.olds@gmail.com, del@oldspdx.com or instagram @the_og_duck are how you can connect. I am going to go take photos and play with dog! Wishing everyone the best! In the immortal words of Hill Street Blues, "hey, let's be careful out there."

I volunteered for a 4-month Advanced Testing Internship where I expanded my IT skill set with a wide variety of tasks, including: research & documentation of advanced testing procedures, hardware troubleshooting (sound/video cards, motherboards, processors, RAM, HDD, routers), Linux command line debugging, and an understanding of the current electronics marketplace.
During my time spent as a volunteer at Free Geek, I cultivated an appreciation for e-recycling at the community level and the impact of the Open Source philosophy. Free Geek is a great place to learn, have fun, and feel like a part of something greater than yourself. Check them out!

Mike Cagney, Co-Founder of Figure, on the shift happening in 2026: "Rather than SoFi or Robinhood controlling everything, you'll have a wallet with your assets, identity, and liabilities. You take it to whatever distributed application you want. That's the end of the super app concept."

Nearly 100% of the code in the new platform I'm working on is written by agents. Not a POC or experiment. We've been doing this for five months and are rolling to production now. Short version of what I've learned: TDD goes from nice-to-have to non-negotiable. Line-by-line review of 30k lines a day puts you back at human velocity, so you need quality defense in depth — pit robots against robots. And your new coding partner is neither your replacement nor a slop machine. Full post: https://lnkd.in/gKANJcMG

Nam, a journeyman new to the world of AI, was struggling with his colleagues and receiving tough feedback on his code reviews. Feeling discouraged, Nam sought out Nobody, the wise programmer who had traveled this path before. Under a tree, Nam found Nobody chatting with an AI coding agent. "Master Nobody," he asked, "why are my colleagues so critical of me and my AI-generated code?" Master Nobody said: "Before sending your AI-generated code for review, it must pass through three gates: 1. Have you personally reviewed the code generated by your AI? With your eyes open, looking at the diff? o_0 2. Did you ask another AI, acting as a senior engineer, to thoroughly examine the code end-to-end, checking functionality, maintainability, and security? 3. Has your AI written comprehensive tests with 100% functional coverage of the new AI-generated code? But remember this: if your AI writes mocks just to hit 100% coverage, it's cheating." Nam returned to his computer. He thoroughly examined Master Nobody's lessons, personalized the advice, and applied it. The results were 10x improvement in his code quality. His colleagues and his bosses were very very happy. Inspired by this breakthrough, Nam wrote a doc outlining his new methodology: "Working with AI Effectively by Leading with Questions and Evidence."

One thing I haven't heard many people talking about is that coding agents can more or less cured RSI after decades of mashing out programs by hands for decades. Not saying programmers will be remembered as coal miners or 9/11 heroes or anything, but I'm not not saying that.

Spent half my morning on this today. Added a product to the cart. The cart drawer count in the header did not change. No console errors. Fetch was returning 200. Everything looked fine from the outside. The issue was that I was updating the innerHTML of the cart icon before the fetch actually resolved. Classic async mistake. I had the await in the right place but was chaining a .then() on top of it which created a second execution path. Removed the .then() and kept everything inside the async function. Cart updates instantly now. If your cart icon count feels unreliable in a Shopify theme, check how your async chain is structured. It is almost always the cause. What async bugs have tripped you up recently? #Shopify #JavaScript #ShopifyDev #FrontendDev #WebDevelopment

Tailwind has completely changed how I approach UI. I don’t think about separate CSS files or hunting down classes anymore. I just write components with utilities that: Adjust automatically across breakpoints Keep spacing and typography consistent Scale without breaking the layout The best part? When a teammate opens the code, it’s obvious what each class does. No guesswork. It’s not just faster — it makes the UI predictable and the team happier. #TailwindCSS #Frontend #React #ResponsiveDesign #CleanCode
