It is frequently updated, has a vetting process to ensure quality, and it is used by browsers, email clients, security and anti-spam, content distribution network providers…

    The PSL is a centrallized, community maintained repository of strings considered to be 'top level' domains, which is the most well maintained and comprehensive list of TLDs available. It is frequently updated, has a vetting process to ensure quality, and it is used by browsers, email clients, security and anti-spam, content distribution network providers, numerous programming languages and search engines, as well as many other uses.

    I use my relationships within the ccTLD and gTLD registry community to ensure that updates to the list are sourced from official origins, and I coordinate with ICANN on the updates to the root zone and contracting of new top level domain names so that the new TLDs added in 2013+ will be added to the PSL proactively. This helps ensure Universal Acceptance of new TLDs and minimizes transitional challenges that were present in the introduction of new TLDs which ocurred in 2001 and 2005, such as .travel or .museum being longer than 3 characters.

    My objective being that helps to ensure that new top level domain names will function correctly in browsers, programming languages, search, etc. have up to date information from registries, so that the developer community can build upon the new innovation that is possible from new TLDs.
