Christina Janzer posted thisOur latest Slack Workforce Index shows a big shift in AI in the workplace. 👀 For the first time since generative AI’s arrival, our research shows that AI adoption among workers is slowing down. In the last 3 months, AI adoption rates stalled in France and the U.S., while excitement rates around AI dropped 6 percentage points globally. Have we reached an AI cliff? 🔍 If we take a look at how workers feel about AI, we get a better picture of the gap between AI urgency and AI adoption. Here are some factors: 1️⃣ Nearly half of workers are uncomfortable admitting to their manager that they used AI for common workplace tasks 2️⃣ Top reasons for workers’ discomfort are 1) Feeling like using AI is cheating, 2) Fear of being seen as less competent, and 3) Fear of being seen as lazy 3️⃣ Employees most want AI to allow them to refocus their time on meaningful activities (and execs do too!), but they think that AI will lead to more busy work and increased workload 👉🏼 My take: To ensure adoption of AI, it’s important that leaders not only train workers and provide more clarity for how, when and what to use AI for, but encourage employees to talk about AI and experiment with it out in the open. The arrival of AI agents – with clearly defined roles and guidelines – will also help to alleviate the ambiguity and anxiety many workers feel around using AI at work. https://lnkd.in/g42wAy6N

Christina Janzer shared thisI'm thrilled that The Associated Press featured Slack Workforce Lab's recent AI personas research! I talked about the five types of AI users in the workplace, and how important it is for leaders to understand that people's experiences with and feelings of AI vary dramatically, and we need to meet them where they are. While many feel excited about AI, some people feel guilty about using it! And some use it regularly but hide it from their manager! And others want to use it and think it's cool, but don't know where to start. You can build the coolest tech (and I think AI is pretty cool!), but if people don’t use it, it doesn't matter. If we want to drive AI adoption in the workplace - which we do! - let's create a culture that supports it, encourages it and celebrates it. https://lnkd.in/gzgSABwHSlack researcher discusses the fear, loathing and excitement surrounding AI in the workplaceSlack researcher discusses the fear, loathing and excitement surrounding AI in the workplace

Christina Janzer shared thisIn June, Isabel Berwick hosted me at the Financial Times in London, and a few weeks ago I got to return the favor when she visited the Salesforce Tower in SF. We sat down and had a conversation about AI, how it’s shaping the future of work, and what’s holding people back from using it. Our latest research shows that while executive urgency is at an all-time high (having increased 7x over the last 6 months!), employee adoption of AI is still quite low (2/3 still not using it at work 😮 ). We talked about what’s holding people back, how emotions drive usage and sustained adoption, and how AI has the incredible potential to help us find more joy at work. We just need to meet people where they are, and recognize there is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to changing human behavior, especially with a technology as transformative as AI. I’m looking forward to seeing what her and her team put together.

Christina Janzer shared thisWe know from Slack research on the global desk workforce that two out of three desk workers have never tried AI and the majority — 85% — don’t feel they have the training and education to use AI effectively. But AI training doesn’t have to be a big lift. With help from our friends over at Almost Technical, Slack ran an AI microlearning program that doubled our employees’ comfort level with and use of AI tools through just ~10 minutes a day of hands-on experimentation. Here’s a handy case study so you can try it with your team. Happy learning – and please come back and tell us how it goes! https://lnkd.in/gDAfQhEi https://lnkd.in/gbgbYxza #ai #ailearning #aitraining #AImicrolearning #upskillingTry This Experiment with Your Team at Work: AI MicrolearningTry This Experiment with Your Team at Work: AI Microlearning

Christina Janzer reacted on thisChristina Janzer reacted on thisNearly 15 years ago, I had the privilege of welcoming Clara Shih to the Starbucks Board of Directors to help bring a new generation of digital and technology expertise to our company. Clara was early in her career, having founded Hearsay Social, and on the cutting edge of the digital transformation that was emerging. But what stood out then—and has remained true ever since—was her ability to see around corners and understand how technology could reshape the way people and organizations connect. Over the years, Sheri and I have watched Clara grow as a leader and build an extraordinary career that has included leadership roles at Salesforce and Meta. Today, the Schultz Family Foundation is proud to become an anchor investor in Clara’s next endeavor, the New Work Foundation, which will take on one of the most consequential challenges facing America’s next generation. Millions of young Americans are trying to enter a workforce being fundamentally reshaped by AI, with employers simultaneously reducing entry-level opportunities in some fields while increasing requirements for AI-skills proficiency. The impact is particularly acute for young people who don’t have the personal connections to stick out amid the flood of job applications employers receive. For several years, the Schultz Family Foundation has been deeply engaged in this challenge—investing in career navigation, labor-market intelligence and tools that can help young people understand not simply how to find a job, but to understand which jobs and employers can put them on a path toward long-term economic mobility. That is why we are excited to become strategic partners with the New Work Foundation. Our groundbreaking Where You Work Matters labor-market intelligence, developed with The Burning Glass Institute, will help to power New Work’s flagship tools. We will bring relationships across philanthropy, employers and the economic-mobility community, connecting this partnership to our broader work to improve career navigation for young people. And we will work alongside Clara and her brilliant technology team to translate these assets into products and experiences that are genuinely useful to young people. New Work brings exceptional technology, product and entrepreneurial capability. The Schultz Family Foundation brings years of experience working on economic mobility, labor-market data, partnerships and philanthropy. Together, I believe we have an opportunity to build something neither organization could build as effectively alone: a new generation of career-navigation infrastructure designed around the realities young people actually face. Congratulations to Clara and her New Work Foundation team.

Christina Janzer reacted on thisChristina Janzer reacted on thisdearCC from New Work Foundation is now live! dearCC provides Gen Z jobseekers with the jobs data, game plan, and community to thrive in the AI economy. For the last 3 years, we’ve watched AI reshape tasks that used to be entry-level jobs, leaving grads to navigate one of the toughest hiring environments in decades. Staring down 500 unanswered applications in isolation isn't a rite of passage. It's a broken system. dearCC replaces the isolation of today's job hunt with a clear path forward, equipping young workers with actionable insight, practical AI-skilling tools, and a network to back them up. ✦ Focus on where the opportunity is: Our AI-powered Field Report shows jobseekers which roles are growing, shrinking, or changing due to AI so people can make informed decisions about where to focus their job search. ✦ Generate a custom game plan: dearCC provides a 10-week sprint personalized to each jobseeker, including getting hands-on with AI for your role so you can stand out and land more interviews. ✦ Join a community of peers and mentors: No one should navigate this alone. Ask a question in dearCC’s Slack and get an answer from a mentor who works in your field. Compare notes with peers across the country to see what’s landing. We're thrilled to partner with Schultz Family Foundation and The Burning Glass Institute to provide labor market data, and thankful for the generous support from SFF and Mason Morfit Family Foundation, Brian Halligan, Sheryl Sandberg, Chirantan "CJ" Desai, Joe Lonsdale, Nikki Pechet, April Underwood, Aaron Levie, Ryan Graciano & Rebecca Seibert Graciano as well as Salesforce, Slack, Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and Vercel to accelerate our mission of equipping young workers in America with the mindset, skillset, and community to succeed in the new work economy. Huge thanks also to my co-founders Nick Mehta and Samantha Wen, and our tremendous band of volunteers and mentors, including our new volunteer officers Eric Loeb, Chief External Affairs Officer; Jody Rennick Kohner, Chief Learning Officer; Pete Godbole, CFO; Eric Stahl, CMO; and Julien Capers, General Counsel. Christina Janzer reacted on thisChristina Janzer reacted on thisI wish there was a one-size-fits all answer to when you should (and shouldn't) use AI. There's not. But we did find a fast way to help teams build better judgement about it. At Atlassian, we ran an “AI Play/Pause” experiment, where people spent one day using AI for (almost) everything and one day not using it at all. Participants overwhelmingly found that taking a break led to greater AI discernment. ▶️ 92% of participants left more confident about when not to use AI ▶️ 89% said their team now had a clearer shared understanding of when to use AI ▶️ 83% planned to change how they use AI day to day Link to run this exercise with your team: https://lnkd.in/gwkzzMbJWhen is AI useful, or just a habit? Christina Janzer reacted on thisChristina Janzer reacted on thisClara Shih spent two decades leading business AI at some of the biggest names in tech, including Salesforce and Meta. As she watched agentic AI shorten product development cycles and reduce team sizes, she started taking down her own team’s entry-level job postings, while at the same time watching young family members struggle to find jobs. That collision—seeing disruption from the inside and the impact on young people she knows—led Shih to leave Meta this spring and launch the New Work Foundation, a nonprofit aimed at closing what she calls the “information asymmetry” between people who work in AI and everyone else. Shih talked with Charter about AI’s role in the entry-level hiring slowdown, what she’d like to see employers do now, and how she felt a personal call to work on the issue. One of the privileges of leading Key Lime Interactive is getting to work alongside people who have watched this industry evolve from the inside. Ken Stern has spent more than four decades in user experience, from the early days of mainframes, command-line interfaces and personal computing to the AI-powered, multimodal experiences we’re designing today. His perspective on that evolution is worth reading. One point in particular stayed with me: The technology has changed dramatically. The fundamental problem UX research is trying to solve really hasn’t. We’re still trying to close the gap between what organizations think people want and need, and what people actually need, think and feel. What has changed is the complexity around it. Usability still matters. But today we’re also asking questions about trust, cognitive load, control, privacy, automation and what happens when technology begins anticipating our needs rather than simply responding to them. Ken shares a great perspective on where UX has been, where it’s heading, and what needs to remain constant as the technology continues to change. Read Ken’s perspective here: https://lnkd.in/gDKSFPpf As we move further into AI-driven experiences, what do you think UX absolutely cannot afford to lose? #UXResearch #UserExperience #AI
