Christian Carey liked thisFrom Testing Software to Engineering Quality - My Journey So Far 🚀 When I started my career, my focus was simple: 👉 Find bugs. 👉 Test the application. 👉 Make sure the product works as expected. At that stage, success was largely about my individual contribution. Did I test the feature properly? Did I find the right defects? Did I ensure sufficient coverage? As I gained experience and moved deeper into automation, my thinking gradually started to change. It was no longer just about testing an application. I started thinking about questions like: 🔹 How do we automate this efficiently? 🔹 How do we build something that is maintainable? 🔹 How do we reduce execution time? 🔹 How do we make automation reliable? 🔹 How do we create a framework that can scale as the product and team grow? Over time, my journey evolved from being focused primarily on executing tests to thinking more deeply about the engineering ecosystem around quality. And moving into leadership brought another important shift in perspective. 🚀 My technical depth and experience remain important, but the impact is no longer defined by my individual contribution alone. It also comes from: 🔹 How well I guide the team 🔹 Whether I help set the right engineering direction 🔹 How effectively I help people grow 🔹 How we improve our processes and ways of working 🔹 How consistently the team is able to deliver quality That has probably been one of the biggest changes in my thought process. Earlier, I would primarily ask: “How can I solve this problem?” Today, I often think: “How can we build a system, process, and team that can solve these problems consistently?” For me, that is the real evolution of Quality Engineering. Quality is not just about finding defects. It is about creating the right combination of: ⚙️ Engineering practices 🤖 Automation 📊 Meaningful quality insights 👥 Strong teams 🚀 Faster and reliable feedback After more than 12 years in the industry, I still see myself as someone who is learning and evolving. From manual testing to automation. From building test scripts to thinking about automation architecture. From individual contribution to enabling teams. And now, with AI beginning to reshape software engineering and testing, the journey feels even more exciting. Over the coming weeks, I plan to share more about different stages of this journey - the lessons, challenges, mistakes, and experiences that have shaped how I think about Quality Engineering today. Looking forward to learning and sharing with this community. 🚀 #QualityEngineering #SoftwareTesting #TestAutomation #Leadership #Playwright #AI #AITesting #QualityAssurance #EngineeringLeadership

Christian Carey liked thisChristian Carey liked thisBuilding a culture of learning doesn't start with a framework. It starts with going back to basics. I've been part of several conversations lately about building culture within teams — a culture of learning, of continuous improvement, of cross-functional collaboration. This post is actually a by-product of one of those conversations. Writing it pushed me to do something I'm not entirely comfortable with — putting my thoughts out publicly — because of my own biases about what "sharing knowledge" should look like. But that discomfort is exactly the point. It took me back to something we've all heard of in Agile: the 3 Amigos. The problem is, most of us have heard the term — but not internalized the principle. It becomes another checklist item instead of a mindset. As someone in Quality Engineering, here's how I've come to see it, at any level of experience: 𝟭. 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 When a user story lands in front of you, shut out the noise. Look at it in isolation — what does this actually mean for the user? Is it even needed? You have Product, Engineering, and Project Management in the same room. Use it. The earlier a gap in the requirement surfaces, the better it is for the entire scrum team — not just QE. 𝟮. 𝗕𝗲 𝗩𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 Say what you think, even if it sounds silly. Being right or wrong isn't the point — being heard is. Voicing your opinion uncovers blind spots, builds your visibility, and earns you credibility over time. Visibility isn't immodesty. It's a signal of how much you care about the work. 𝟯. 𝗔𝘀𝗸 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 No question is silly — only some answers are. Ask questions of others, and just as importantly, ask them of yourself. Question your own understanding. It's how you fortify what you know instead of assuming you know it. 𝟰. 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 Knowledge doesn't shrink when you give it away — it compounds. The more you share, the sharper you get, and the stronger your team becomes around you. None of this needs a new framework or a fancy rollout plan. It needs people willing to actually practice what the jargon was pointing at all along. Curious to hear — how does your team keep concepts like this from becoming "just another checklist item"? #QualityEngineering #AgileTestimony #3Amigos #ContinuousImprovement #TeamCulture #SoftwareTesting #AgileTeams #LearningCulture #QAEngineer #CrossFunctionalCollaboration #LeadershipInTech

Leading Choice Hotels International has been the greatest privilege of my career. Together, we transformed and strengthened the business — expanding our portfolio from 11 to 22 brands, growing our presence in upscale and extended stay, strengthening our international platform, advancing franchisee-focused technology initiatives and building a stronger, more resilient business positioned for long-term growth. Most importantly, I want to thank our associates, franchisees, guests, partners, and shareholders for their trust, support, and partnership over the years. I have full confidence in Dom and the leadership team, and I look forward to continuing to support the company during the transition. Thank you.

Christian Carey liked thisChristian Carey liked thisThis is not a post to showcase an achievement.. It’s a reminder for all of us who are passionately invested in work, responsibilities, goals, and constant professional growth - that fitness and wellness deserve equal commitment. Over time, I got deeply inspired and received tremendous motivation to build a level of fitness that helped me run for Runs and Miles, an initiative focused on fitness and wellness. And somewhere through this journey, I realized how important it is to intentionally make health a part of our lifestyle - not something we keep postponing. As professionals, we often prioritize meetings, deadlines, deliveries, and growth plans, while our physical and mental well-being quietly moves to the background. But sustainable success is only possible when health grows alongside ambition. Fitness is not about perfection. It is about consistency, discipline, energy, and creating a healthier version of ourselves while continuing to pursue our careers with passion. Let’s continue building successful careers - while also building stronger minds and healthier lives. #Fitness #Wellness #WorkLifeBalance #ProfessionalGrowth #HealthMatters #Leadership #MentalWellbeing #Running #Consistency #SelfDiscipline

In recent years, the United States has seen a dramatic increase in book challenges and bans, and Utah has become one of the most significant case studies in this national trend. In 2024, Utah enacted HB 29, allowing the removal of books statewide if just three school districts (or two districts and five charter schools) label them as containing “objective sensitive material.” By 2025, 18 books, including works by Judy Blume, Margaret Atwood, and Rupi Kaur, had been banned from every public school in the state. While the stated intent is to protect children, the real impact is much broader. When we remove books that explore complex topics—identity, empathy, injustice, or resilience, we also remove opportunities for students to think critically, connect emotionally, and see themselves in stories. According to the American Library Association, 2024 saw over 6,800 book bans nationwide, the highest number on record. Yet data consistently shows that access to diverse reading materials directly supports higher literacy rates and stronger emotional intelligence. Banning books doesn’t just silence authors, it silences readers. It narrows the world our children get to read about, imagine, and learn from. As educators, parents, and readers, we can model something better: trust in curiosity, open dialogue, and the power of story.
