Why is it easier for a college golf coach to recruit a top young player from Sweden than from the United States? United States Golf Association (USGA) CEO Mike Whan says the answer starts years before college recruiting. During his time as LPGA commissioner, Whan noticed that many of the world’s top international players came through organized national development programs - systems designed to identify young talent and prepare them for elite competition. Some even establish U.S. training bases, giving promising junior golfers exposure to American competition and Division 1 coaches. Whan joins Jimmy Roberts to explain what he learned about the global golf development pipeline - and the opportunity he sees here at home. ▶️ Tomorrow on the Big Swing Media YouTube channel 🎙️ And wherever you get your podcasts #MikeWhan #USGA #GolfBusiness #CollegeGolf #JuniorGolf #GolfIndustry #TheBigSwing #BigSwingMedia

A 10-year-old walked into a U.S. Open press conference at Oakmont and asked Bryson DeChambeau how he wants to be remembered. His answer? By inspiring kids exactly like him. Pittsburgh native Silas Ryan's day as Sentry First Tee Junior Reporter included interviews with James Nicholas and Aaron Rai on the range, a walk-and-talk with Gary Woodland, a putt on Oakmont's 1st green with Woodland's putter, and then that final question to Bryson. He wrote all about his unforgettable experience for GOLF.com // GOLF Magazine: https://lnkd.in/dXjZnT4H

Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, the USGA donated an ambulance to New York City Fire Department Battalion 49 in Queens to honor Carlos Lillo, an avid golfer and EMS paramedic who died while helping to evacuate civilians from the South Tower of the World Trade Center. For many years after, the ambulance was driven proudly by fellow paramedic Kevin Barrett (pictured), himself a golfer and USGA member. We remember Carlos Lillo and all the brave first responders who put their lives ahead of others.

Great season on the course? Thank your superintendent! Behind every well-conditioned green, every fair fairway, every course ready for play at 6 a.m. is a team most golfers never see. Superintendents and their crews are out before sunrise and long after the last group finishes, managing everything from turf health to weather to the thousand small decisions that make a round possible. Tag your course's superintendent and let them know their work doesn't go unnoticed. #ThankASuper | USGA Green Section
