We were pleased to host the Steel Partners EH&S Council Meeting last week at our facility in Cudahy, Wisconsin.   The event brought together Environmental, Health, and Safety professionals from across the Steel Partners Holdings operating companies for meaningful discussion, collaboration, and the sharing of best practices. It was a valuable opportunity to learn from one another, exchange ideas, and explore ways to continuously improve workplace programs, processes, and employee engagement.   There is truly nothing quite like in-person networking to strengthen relationships, foster innovation, and gain new perspectives from peers facing similar challenges.   A sincere thank you to everyone who was able to join us. We appreciate your engagement and look forward to continuing our collective efforts to create safer, stronger, and more effective workplaces.

  • AI’s next bottleneck may not be chips. It may be electrical infrastructure. Texas pausing new data center permits pending a grid audit is another sign of the enormous power demands behind AI growth. That means greater demand for transformers, switchgear, contacts, relays and the joining technologies that help keep critical power equipment performing reliably. As AI scales, the grid must scale with it. #ElectricalInfrastructure #DataCenters #AI #Brazing #LucasMilhaupt

Today, we celebrate the birthday and lasting legacy of Tommy Lasorda. Tommy taught us that there are three kinds of people in this world: those who make it happen, those who watch it happen, and those who wonder what happened. On Tommy Day, we recommit ourselves to being the people who make it happen. That means showing up with passion, holding ourselves accountable, working as one team, staying disciplined, and pushing through challenges with purpose and perseverance. Those values are part of Tommy’s legacy, and they continue to shape how we work at Lucas Milhaupt and across the Steel Partners family. Happy Birthday, Tommy. We are proud to carry your mindset forward and keep making it happen every day. #TommyDay #MakeItHappen #LucasMilhaupt #SteelPartners #JoinWithTheBest #Teamwork #Accountability #Discipline #Perseverance

  • A brazed joint in an electrical assembly carries two loads at once: mechanical stress and electrical current. If the joint design only accounts for strength, the connection may hold but resist current flow, generate heat, and degrade over time. That dual requirement is where joint design decisions matter most. Close clearance keeps the filler-metal layer thin, which directly affects conductivity. Surface cleanliness and uniform heating control whether filler metal flows through the joint or plates onto the outside surface. And alloy selection has to balance conductivity against brazing temperature, base-metal compatibility, and service conditions. Silver filler metals are widely used in contacts, fuse elements, lead wires, and rupture discs because of their conductivity. For copper-to-copper joints, silver-copper-phosphorus alloys offer self-fluxing behavior that can simplify processing. But those same alloys cannot be used on ferrous materials, because brittle phosphide compounds form at the interface. For high-volume production of fuses, relays, contacts, and controls, preforms and paste provide measured filler-metal volume that improves process consistency and reduces post-braze cleanup. We covered this topic in detail on our blog, including alloy selection guidance for specific electrical applications. Every brazing filler metal you select for a microelectronic package constrains the alloys available for the next joint in the assembly. Step brazing depends on matching liquidus temperatures so a later operation does not remelt an earlier joint. Factor in vacuum compatibility, hermeticity requirements, and coefficient-of-thermal-expansion mismatches between Kovar, ceramics, and plated surfaces, and the selection matrix grows complex quickly. That is why we approach filler metal selection for microelectronics as a full-assembly map. Our materials engineers evaluate the complete thermal history of the package, from die attach through final seal, to recommend alloys like Premabraze 800, Premabraze 880, or Silvaloy 721 based on the sequence of operations and the service environment the assembly will face. We published a detailed walkthrough covering hermetic packaging, thermal management, and filler metal selection on our blog. Advanced semiconductor packaging continues to push the limits of materials performance, thermal management and long-term reliability. As package designs become larger, thinner and more complex, challenges such as thermal expansion, warpage and interconnect reliability become even more critical. These are exactly the kinds of engineering challenges that make material selection and joining expertise increasingly important. At Lucas Milhaupt, we understand that reliable performance starts with the right materials, the right process and the right technical support. A great read from Semiconductor Engineering on the evolving challenges in advanced packaging. #Microelectronics #SemiconductorPackaging #AdvancedPackaging #MaterialsEngineering #Brazing #ElectronicsManufacturing #LucasMilhaupt
