For #NationalMothWeek—a citizen science initiative that encourages people to document & share their moth observations to iNaturalist—we're celebrating the work of two Visiting Scientists conducting key research on long-range insect dispersal and migration from aboard the National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions fleet. With Lindblad Expedition-National Geographic Fund support, National Geographic Explorers Gerard Talavera and Lucas Kaminski collected data that provided new insights on the migration patterns of insects while sailing along the east coast of South America from Trinidad to Brazil aboard National Geographic Explorer in 2023. One noteworthy finding included the identification of more than 300 species of moths crossing the Amazon River in a single night! The Visiting Scientist Program is supported by the LEX-NG Fund and helps make critical field research possible aboard the NG-LEX fleet while giving travelers aboard select voyages the opportunity to witness, and sometimes take part in, science happening in real time. We look forward to welcoming Gerard and Lucas back aboard as they extend their research farther south on a voyage to the Falklands (Islas Malvinas), South Georgia, and Antarctica in February 2027! Bringing peak polar energy to the high latitudes. 🐻❄️ It is impossible for our naturalists not to feel a sense of joy when navigating the spectacular fjords of Greenland aboard National Geographic Endurance.

A new season of exploration begins today. Today, National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions officially unveils 2028 and 2029 deployment. Inspired by a 60-year legacy of taking travelers into remote global destinations, this collection represents the next generation of exploration. From utilizing the advanced capabilities of National Geographic Endurance and National Geographic Resolution in the polar ice to investigating marine ecosystems alongside National Geographic Explorers, our focus remains on access and deep educational immersion. Guided by veteran captains and naturalists, these new departures across the Arctic, Antarctica, the Galápagos, Europe, and the South Pacific invite travelers to actively participate in understanding our planet.

This week, naturalist and photographer Benjamin Ayala is capturing a dynamic Galápagos expedition aboard National Geographic Endeavour II, showing everything from the distinct differences between land iguanas and giant tortoises to the intricate details of a butterfly.

At high Arctic latitudes, light behaves unlike anywhere else on Earth. The low angle of the sun creates prolonged golden hours where heavy cloud layers and low-lying fog continuously alter the texture of the water and sky. Capturing these sudden transitions requires an eye for the rapidly shifting weather of the polar north and photographer Andrew Peacock framed this morning perfectly as National Geographic Resolution navigated beneath a breaking sky. #NatGeoLindbladExpeditions

Navigating Europe's storied shores requires a balance of deep cultural education and active exploration.
