Daniel Coons | Manager, Contact Center Honor Flight Northeast Indiana Volunteer For Dan, volunteering with Honor Flight Northeast Indiana is about more than a trip to Washington, D.C. It's about helping veterans experience a moment many have waited decades to receive. Each Honor Flight brings area veterans to our nation's capital to visit the memorials built in their honor. As a volunteer guardian, Dan has the privilege of walking alongside these heroes throughout their journey, listening to their stories, sharing in their memories, and witnessing the emotions that come with seeing these monuments firsthand. While Honor Flight was originally established to take World War II veterans to visit the newly dedicated World War II Memorial, many of today's flights serve Vietnam-era veterans. For Dan, the most meaningful part of the experience happens when the veterans return home. "Watching these heroes receive a heartfelt welcome home from a grateful nation is something I'll never forget," Dan shared. "For many Vietnam veterans, that recognition was missing when they first came home. Seeing the smiles, tears, and appreciation from family members, volunteers, and complete strangers is incredibly powerful." Through his involvement with Honor Flight Northeast Indiana, Dan helps ensure the sacrifices and service of our veterans are remembered, honored, and celebrated.
