A lineman and a wind tech should not be in the same boot. Neither should a demo crew and a tower hand. Most people shop footwear by the name on the side. That is backwards. The boot has to answer the hazard first. What is actually going to hurt you out there? Dropped steel, a live circuit, a wet nacelle. That decides the boot. Comfort and fit matter, but they come after, not before. Four trades in these slides, four different boots for the job. Tap through and find yours. What hazard on your site does your current boot not account for? That is usually the one that finds you. Most folks buy boots on the toe cap and price. The label is telling you more than that. I, C, EH, PR, MT. John walks through which of those codes your trade actually needs, and which ones you are paying for and never using. Nothing beats a demo day in the beautiful fall weather! The 3M Worker Health and Safety Fall Protection Demo Truck rolled in this morning. If you have never watched a drop test up close, it will change how you feel about your connector choice. A 220-pound steel weight, a load cell, and a real number on the screen when the fall stops. The gap between a shock-absorbing lanyard and one that is not built to absorb anything quits being a talking point and turns into a force reading you can see. Add tool tethering, the ABCDs, hands-on equipment, and VR hazard scenarios, and that is a solid way to spend a Wednesday. Thanks to the 3M crew for rolling in. Photos below! #FallProtection #JobsiteSafety #3MFallProtection #GMESupply 3M

Your feet put in about 2,000 hours a year on the job. The wrong boots show up as sore feet by lunch and a toe cap you don't trust. The right ones, you forget you're wearing them. John walks through what actually matters when you're buying a new pair: Start with your top hazard, not comfort. Dropping heavy material means you need a rated toe. Working near live circuits means EH. Nail that first, then worry about how they feel. Steel or composite. Steel is thinner and cheaper, and it's max protection for the money. It also runs hot and cold and sets off metal detectors. Composite is lighter, non-metallic, and better in temperature extremes. If you're clearing checkpoints every day, go composite. Know the codes on the label. I and C are impact and compression, and every safety boot has them. EH is electrical hazard, PR is puncture resistance, MT is a metal tarsal guard. Only pay for the ones your job calls for. Match the build to your climate, not a marketing claim. Wet site, go waterproof. Hot and dry, go breathable. Fit is a safety feature. Try them on in your work socks. Thumb's width at the toe, no heel slip. A rated toe cap doesn't flex, so if it pinches in the store, it pinches on site. Still not sure what your trade needs? That's what our Gear Experts are for. Shop work boots by trade at the link in comments. #WorkBoots #SafetyFootwear #JobsiteSafety #GearExperts #SkilledTrades
