About us
Green Generation Initiative (GGI) is an action-driven organization working with communities to conserve, protect, and restore ecosystems while improving livelihoods and strengthening climate resilience. Our mission is to nurture a socially responsible, environmentally conscious, and prosperous generation of children, youth, women, and communities who are empowered to protect nature, strengthen resilience, and build sustainable, dignity-driven livelihoods. Founded by Elizabeth Wathuti, O.G.W., a globally recognized climate and environmental champion, GGI was born from a deep-rooted passion for nature and a vision to empower local communities, especially women and young people, to lead climate solutions. Today, GGI works at the intersection of environmental restoration, sustainable livelihoods, and youth leadership, creating practical solutions that benefit both people and the planet. Through community-led conservation and the restoration of degraded water catchment areas, the development of green and food-secure schools and institutions, climate education, and youth leadership programs, we are equipping communities with the tools and opportunities to restore ecosystems while building sustainable and dignity-driven livelihoods. From local communities in Kenya to continental and global platforms, GGI is demonstrating that bold grassroots action can restore ecosystems, strengthen resilience, improve livelihoods, and shape a more sustainable future for people and the planet.

Nana Kusi Appiah , one of the African Next Green Leaders Accelerator (ANGLE) Bootcamp Cohort 1 Fellows, looks back at the bootcamp as a platform that enabled him to better understand how to refine his solution to meet consumer needs, network with other innovators, and, most importantly, gain knowledge that has helped him continue growing his work. Today, Nana is scaling Ganafert in Ghana, where they turn organic waste into organic fertilizer, creating impact for communities while contributing to a healthier planet. Growth begins when we’re willing to see challenges differently. For @simon_kupalia the ANGLE Cohort 1 Bootcamp was a turning point. It reshaped the way he thought about innovation, equipping him with new insights, meaningful connections, and a clearer vision for scaling solutions. Today, he’s applying those lessons to develop mining solutions that are safer for workers, better for the environment, and more beneficial to the communities they serve. Every founder’s journey starts with a single opportunity. Could the next story of impact be yours? 👀 #nextgreenleaders

For Tabitha Kasongo , the ANGLE Cohort 1 Bootcamp was more than just a learning experience it was a catalyst for growth. As the founder of Trokass, Tabibtha is helping smallholder farmers in Malawi access quality agricultural inputs and reliable markets, enabling them to improve productivity, strengthen their livelihoods, and build more resilient farming businesses. In this reflection, she shares how the bootcamp equipped her with new perspectives, valuable connections, and the confidence to scale her impact. If you’re an African innovator with a bold idea ready to scale, this conversation is just getting started. Green Generation Initiative (GGI)

A year ago, this was the moment ANGLE Cohort 1 founders introduced themselves to the world in their own languages, with big dreams and an even bigger belief in what was possible. Today, they’re building businesses, growing their impact, and proving that when young African leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators are given the right support, they don’t just create ideas, they build solutions. Now, who else is ready to build the next climate solution Africa needs? #nextgreenleaders Green Generation Initiative (GGI)

Conservation is a collective effort, and the second edition of the Mau Conservation Marathon was a powerful reminder of what partnerships can achieve. As a proud partner in the Mau Forest Complex Integrated Conservation and Livelihood Improvement Programme (MFC-ICLIP), Green Generation Initiative was honored to stand alongside communities, government, and fellow partners in advancing the restoration of the Mau Forest Complex one of Kenya’s most vital ecosystems. Every step taken was a step towards healthier forests, stronger communities, and a more climate-resilient future. Together, we’re proving that when people unite behind a shared purpose, lasting environmental impact is possible. #MauConservationMarathon

We were delighted to welcome the Mondo team from Estonia to our offices in Nairobi today. It is always encouraging to see partners from across the world open to strengthen local communities’ empowerment by investing in lasting impact. Together, we are proud to be establishing another Permaculture Learning and Feeding Garden that enables schools to sustainably produce their own food, strengthen school feeding programs, improve nutrition for children, and equip students with practical skills in sustainable agriculture while fostering a culture of lifelong environmental stewardship. Our discussions also explored opportunities to deepen our partnership in advancing community empowerment, knowledge sharing, digital skills initiative across the communities we work with, and scaling sustainable solutions that strengthen resilience and livelihoods. Strong partnerships are always at the heart of lasting change, and we are grateful to Mondo for this new collaboration. Elizabeth Wathuti H.S.C , O.G.W Karl Markus Villemson🔸 Meelike Terasmaa

A proud milestone for the Green Generation Initiative (GGI) and the restoration of the Mau Forest Complex, Kenya’s largest water tower that also beyond our borders keeps the Mara and Nile rivers flowing to sustain millions of lives and livelihoods. We were deeply honored to welcome Her Excellency the First Lady of the Republic of Kenya, Mama Rachael Ruto, who officially commissioned our tree nursery, the Green Generation Tree Nursery. This is a 1-million-capacity fruit tree nursery that we are establishing and implementing as the Green Generation Initiative (GGI) and we are proud to be implementing this in support of the Mau Forest Complex Integrated Conservation and Livelihood Improvement Programme (MFC-ICLIP) a programme under the patronage of Dr. Eng. Festus K. Ng'eno, MIEK, CBS, Principal Secretary State Department of Environment and Climate Change. This initiative reflects our core commitment to ensuring that ecosystem restoration translates into tangible benefits for local communities. By providing quality fruit tree seedlings to farmers and at least 15 species of high quality indigenous tree seedlings, the nursery will directly: ▪️Support large-scale landscape restoration ▪️Strengthen regional food security ▪️Improve rural household incomes ▪️Create sustainable livelihood opportunities across the Mau landscape We were also privileged to be joined by a distinguished delegation of leaders who share our vision for environmental conservation and community empowerment: ~H.E Ambassador Mama Ida Odinga, Kenya's Permanent Representative to UN Environment Programme (UNEP), ~Dr. Deborah Barasa, Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change & Forestry, ~ Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, The Arts & Heritage ~ Gitonga Mugambi, Principal Secretary for Forestry ~ @Aurelia Rono, Principal Secretary for Parliamentary Affairs ~The Member of Parliament for Kuresoi North, alongside other key community leaders. At the Green Generation Initiative, we believe that every seedling planted is a direct investment in our people, our planet, and our shared future. Together, we are growing a greener, more resilient Mau Forest for generations to come. You too can make a contribution. # SustainableLivelihoods #ClimateAction #LindaMauBoreshaMaisha
