Bobyard builds the best AI infrastructure for faster takeoffs and estimates across the construction trades.
About us
Bobyard is the AI infrastructure for the construction trades. Founded in 2023 by Michael Ding, a Stanford-trained engineer, we're a San Francisco-based company building custom AI models for construction trades to reduce weeks of manual takeoff and estimating work into minutes so contractors can grow their business with more bids, not more overhead. Backed by the largest Series A in construction software history, Bobyard has become the platform of choice for leading commercial contractors and outfits of all sizes across the United States. We're closing a 50-year productivity gap in American construction and building the AI layer the trades have been waiting for.

Food for thought from our own Gil Munguia. As we automate more, what do we gain and lose? And what helps continue to build those unique and decisive estimating judgment skills?
A contractor told me he likes his estimators tracing and coloring rooms by hand. Not because it is efficient. Because by the time they finish, they know the building. His point was that the more automation his people use, the less familiar they are with the job. That is a real cost, and I do not think it gets talked about enough. Speed and familiarity are not the same thing. A takeoff is not only how quantities get produced. It is also one of the ways a junior estimator learns what a building is. What I would say is that not all of that learning comes from the counting itself. Understanding scope, spotting what is missing, knowing where the risk sits in the drawings, that is the knowledge you want them building. Tracing 400 rooms is repetition. But I would not dismiss his concern. If you give a junior estimator a tool that gets them to the answer faster, you have to be deliberate about where they build judgment instead. Curious whether anyone has thought about this for their own team.
