Amity Foundation

LA County is home to the nation’s largest foster care system, serving nearly 12,000 children and youth. Approximately 1,000 youth age out of LA County’s foster care system annually, while others transition from juvenile justice involvement, probation, or incarceration without stable housing, financial resources, or family support. Our "Bridge to Independence" project will provide comprehensive housing stabilization, workforce development, and employment supports for foster and systems-impacted youth ages 18-24 in LA County. Thank you, Smart Justice California for organizing a tour of our Amistad campus bringing together local legislators, CDCR leadership, advocates, and funding partners to learn more about our innovative approach to reentry. We were honored to welcome Assemblymember Mark Gonzalez, Assemblymember Celeste Rodriguez, and the Director of the Division of Rehabilitative Programs at CACorrections, Amy Casis. The tour provided an opportunity for attendees to hear directly from Amity students, see our work in action, and discuss the critical role comprehensive reentry services play in reducing recidivism and creating pathways to long-term success. Their visit underscores the importance of collaboration between community organizations, policymakers, and state leaders to strengthen California's reentry system and expand access to evidence-based services for justice-impacted individuals.

We strive to empower our students to build bright futures for themselves. While in the Male Community Reentry Program, Shane pursued his interest in business, earning an Associate Degree from Coastline College. Congratulations on your achievement Shane! 👨🎓
